Free Upgrade!

These free upgrades are the randomly chosen or does Disney use a process in determining who gets them? What would be the criteria for getting the free upgade? We are staying at CBR from 3/13 -3/21 and I am intrigued about the possibility of a free upgrade but not holding my breath. Also wondering if making the change would even be worth it as CBR looks like alot of fun. Our party consist of Me, DW, DS16, DSF 16 and DD2.

Oh well that seals my families fate. We never win the lottery when we play. . I dont see this being any different.

do they just up grade you from a value to a moderate resort? If you are staying at a deluxe would they up grade you to a nicer room?

We got this upgrade during free dining and loved it!! We moved from 2 ASMU rooms to 2 1 bedroom suites at SSR. It was a wonderful resort and we just adored it. Congrats!!

These upgrades happen a lot when the original resort is overbooked and the upgrades are always for the budget resorts to OKW and SSR....

they are not usually upgrades to the most desireable resorts like AKL or BC...you know??

I don't know how they pick the people who get to move...its prob all about the most booked dates??

Just being curious..we booked through a travel agent so I am guessing we would never receive anything like this? This is our first trip and now I am really wishing I would have just booked directly through Disney. I am just being curious!

My sister booked through an agent and got it as well. She is soo thrilled to be at Saratoga!

We are staying 3/17 to 3/22. The offer I received was a choice between Saratora Springs and Old Key West - just like the others. I did book myself online - not thru a travel agent.

I had to laugh at myself. I got an email from disney destinations today with the title...."about your disney resort arrival" My heart skipped just for a second. LOL... I know it is unlikely, but with the other emails that have recently gone out I thought for a second, maybe I too would be receiving an upgrade. Nope.. not this time. Oh well, I am actually excited to stay at POR. It will be our first time there.

We once got an upgrade from CBR to CR in the mid-90's. It was so exciting!

The upgrades are done during busy times when lower cost resorts sell out and they know there is a demand for the lower cost rooms still but SSR and OKW have an abundance that are not in demand. The OP and others are going during spring break which is a busy time.

Yes, and if I am remembering correctly, the same thing happened around Spring Break 2009 as well.

I have noticed that the dates seem to be right before Easter. Most of the threads I've read have been from those booked in a value resort. We are going on March 6 w/ an AP discount, so no chance of an upgrade here. SSR and OKW are huge resorts so I guess this is an opportunity to get a new member hooked.

We received the pin. We were staying @ POP from 3/26-4/3 & were upgraded for free to OKW....we could keep our gc.

I heard from other posters that this happens when the values get filled up.

After leaving a generous mousekeeping envelope, we were upgraded to two sets of towels and washcloths. No complaints here though as we are two shower a day people and that was nice to have dry ones for both showers!

I saw that someone got a studio. I wonder if you got the upgrade - if you could pay for a suite. A couple years back I remember a great deal for SSR but decide to stay put.
