Free upgrade to Season Pass...

Just got back from US/IOA on Saturday... We drive each time and it takes us about 9.5-10 hours one way so we usually miss out on the last day of 'park eligibility' due to the long drive. In other words, I can't spend a day in the parks, and then hit the road for 10 hours... Just not safe.

Well, our trip was winding down, and we really wanted to use that last day on our tickets so the night before we were to leave, we booked a room in Gainesville for the next night, spent the day in the parks, then had a short 2 hour drive to sleep before the final leg of the trip.

In US, before we were going to leave the wife had the idea to ask about upgrading our 7-day tickets to season passes since we'll be back in Orlando for a Disney trip in November... The upgrade was free, and we also found out that they lifted the blackout dates, and extended the SP to Dec.31 from Dec.19

You won't get what you don't ask for however, so if there is even the slightest chance you might get back to Orlando before the end of the year, and you've already purchased a 7-day 2-park ticket, tell them you want to upgrade to a SP. We talked to a team member @ the Vacation Information station outside the Monsters Cafe (across from the Shrek exit).

universal has always allowed the upgrade that you talked about.

whatever tickets you have purchased are upgradable for the difference in price.
even if you have used up most of the days on the pass.
you have to do the upgrade before you leave the park though.

Most definitely kewl... I figured they'd allow an upgrade, but I didn't realize that it was going to be a free upgrade... Once I started remembering some of the ticket prices, I realized that they didn't give us anything, and of course, you won't get what you don't ask for...

I'm just glad the wife thought about it before we left... We're considering a 3-4 day long weekend trip between now and November, and then possibly starting our Nov. vacation a few days early, or maybe staying a bit later...

Is the upgrade always free, or was this just an exception?
We have 7 day passes and will be there for 8 days, and am wondering if there is a way we can extend the passes to use for last day?

I don't think they are as strict with the fl resident thing in person at guest services as they would be if you bought online/over the phone.

The passes are for anyone...I just purchased 5. I called the annual pass dept. the lady said there was a special on them...blackout dates lifted and not just fl residents could buy. I paid 99 each plus a handling fee.

Are you a Florida resident? If not, I'm wondering if I would be able to get the free upgrade too??

As mentioned, this wasn't only for FL residents... They did ask for my license, so knew that I was from Louisiana... Just a few minutes to update my tickets, print new season passes, and that was it... It maybe took 5 minutes tops.

They even canceled my original tickets and gave them back to us so my wife could put them in the photo album / scrap book for my son.

those free passes are not upgradeable.
