free tickets to Kennedy Space Center

We just received the forwarded email regarding our tickets from our representative's office and it was only signed "NASA Headquarters
Office of Legislative & Intergovernmental Affairs."

I requested our passes about 6 months in advance and knew within a month that we had the passes. However, we were told we would receive the confirmation closer to our visit, and that just came this week.

We're so excited to be able to do this tour!

Congratulations! I have been there once before and it was super fun so you should have a great trip!:dance3:

Well we tried but just got conirmation that June 6 was booked:sad2:. Not surprising since it is the first week of summer vaca and a day where the Dream disembarks just down the road a piece. If I had known earlier what we were doing I would have tried 6+ months out. We asked 5 months out but it took two weeks for the congresmans office to get back to me so that may have hurt us.

Try a Senator who's up for re-election or a congressperson. We emailed both and got an immediate response from our Senator who is in a tough race this year. Never heard for the one who's not up for election. I'm really excited we got the tickets because it's pretty expensive for a family of 5.

Hi! Did you get more than 4 tickets? We are going to KSC in April and I went through our congressman and got 4 tickets- we are also a family of 5.

Our friends are also going- also a family of 5 and as luck would have it, even though we live 15 minutes apart and in different counties, we have the same congressman. They were told that they could not get any more than 4 tickets on any particular day and that another family ( yes- mine!) had already requested the tickets.

I was surprised and felt awkward keeping the 4 tickets just for my family...so I decided to split the tickets- 2 adult tickets for me and DH and 2 adult tickets for my friend and her hubby and now we will have to pay for our 3 children each.

This is odd. Our travel party had 5 people, 3 households, same district. We requested tickets with two groups, and got the five we needed. Had it been one single household, we would have requested as one group.

Has anyone else been able to get more than 4 tickets for the same date thru their congressman?

I'm going to contact NASA's office of legistaive and govt affairs tomorrow. they are the ones who sent me the confirmation email.

I just stumbled across this thread. I wish I had found it earlier! :) We're on the Dream in mid-June and I have low hopes of getting free tickets for a busy travel month. I'll call tomorrow anyway.

Thanks to all for the information! If not this year, we can always go back in the future!! :)

Our Senators office said 2 things:

1.)
They won’t let me submit the request more than 6 months in advance. I will submit the request in October, please feel free to follow up then.

2.)
NASA was able to give you 4 tickets. They have 2 adult and 2 children tickets for you on X/20/2012. An additional child’s ticket can be purchased at the gate when you arrive. They will be in touch in the coming months with a confirmation number and additional information.

I can understand if the policy limit is 4 tickets for my family of 5. NASA will only issue up to 4 tickets. I get that part and I will just have to buy the 5th ticket for my family of 5. But the part I am "unclear" about is why the congressional office can't ask for 4 more tickets for another family on the same date. They have to be covering thousands of households in their jurisdiction and they are limited to 1 household/4 tickets? I didn't ask for 10 tickets to cver my fmily and my friend's family. She placed her own inquiry 2 weeks after I placed mine. And they are legit- live 20 minutes away, own their house, etc.....

I'm not trying to sound ungrateful, 4 comp tickets are certainly better than none. We tried to get the tickets in 2011, but the congressional office said they were gone. But I never thought that they were only allowed to issue 4 tickets. Maybe NASA only wants to issue 4 tickets per household, but the entire congressional access is to 4 tickets on any particular day?

And I suspect that this may not be the case because of MTmomma's posting where she states:

"This is odd. Our travel party had 5 people, 3 households, same district. We requested tickets with two groups, and got the five we needed. Had it been one single household, we would have requested as one group."

I didn't call NASA yet- maybe today.

just rec'd an email from my senator's office ( california):

Because of extremely limited quantities, NASA has already exhausted its allocation of complimentary Kennedy Space Center tour tickets for the year and therefore congressional tickets are no longer available. I apologize for the inconvenience. Regular priced tickets are still available and can be purchased at the website below.

this is only march and they said already exhausted its allocation??? :sad2:i guess i just have no luck.

anyway, i will try the other senator again.

No. We got 4 tickets. They said that was the limit.

Wow - that's too bad chuchujew! Already gone for the year in March?!? May I ask when you first applied?

I'm not even getting any responses from our Congressmen. So far I've contacted both Senators from Texas (not at the same time...allowed a few weeks in between to give one time to respond) and my Representative. No one has even responded.

I contacted my Congresswoman yesterday and today I got a call that they did not have these available.. I was bummed:sad2:

I think this is what people were finding in 2011 about this time of the year as well. There are only x number of tickets allocated, and they run out well before the end of the year.

Make sure you let them know why they dont be getting your vote next year. Did you try calling their office as well?

I followed the advise here on the board and contacted my congressman Jerry McNearny six months before our trip. I received an email the next day saying they were looking into it. Then a week later they asked for the details of our trip and when we would be in Florida. Then, I didn't hear anything for a few months. Just last week (4 months) before our trip, I got an email saying that we would receive 4 complimentary tickets. I'm so excited! The added bonus is that my sons teachers are thrilled that they are going to the KSC and they can do a space project to make up for the work they will miss in school. :-)

Lucky you. wonder if you can provide a contact from Jerry McNearny's office which I can refer that to my congresswoman (district 12 in california) office

I recieved an email fromher office (Ca district 12)office saying" Congressional offices can only request tickets for actual space shuttle launches and in order to get tickets to tour the facility you will have to go to their website and purchase them."

Thanks.

You have to keep on them and tell them that they do indeed offer this service. If you need the contact info they will use to get the tickets let me know. My first several contacts I got the same response that they only did launches and since there are no more shuttle launches, I guess that isn't going to happen. Best of luck.

This is a copy of the email I sent my congresswoman (in NY) after being told the tix were only offered for space launches. After this correspondence, I was contacted by her aide & he is currently working on getting the tix. Haven't heard back in a couple months, so I'm keeping the faith that they'll still be available:
