Free texting with iTouch apps

Read a little online about apps for the iTouch that allow free texting to mobile phones. I'd like some first hand info. Do they work? Which app do you use?

My son has this app on his iTouch and yes, it does work.

I don't know what the name of it is, though. He bought the app for 99cents.

My dd uses the text + app (free app). It works great, we get very poor cell service at our house so she uses her touch to text her friends when she's at home, plus its free so she doesn't have to use up any of her text allowance on her phone
