The other day I received a postcard from Starwood that if I go online and change my Starwood Profile to receive my statement through e-mail I would get 250 free spg points. While I was doing this, I saw an ad that said if I completed a survey I would get 250 spg points. The ad disappears pretty quickly, so you have to move fast. I now have over 3,000 points, thanks to the 500 free points that appeared on my account when I checked today.

Does anyone know how many points you need for a free night? We might have an escape weekend away from the kids at our local Westin or Sheraton.

Gotta love free starwood points! You need 10,000 starpoints per night at a catagory 4.

3,000 points got me a free night at the Sheraton Safari last May! I believe that's a Catagory 3 (??) ::yes::

Are we talking hotels or hurricanes??? Just kidding. The Swan/Dolphin is 10,000 points.

Gotta LOVE them!!Thanks for the good TIPS!I have accumulated more than 100,000 SPG points! I'll transfer some for first class airfare, but usually that's it. I have them banked in there like a safety net!! LOL...:teeth: I made a LOT this past summer, and they have not even posted yet. It takes time, and I only left there a week ago!! ;)

I got the postcard, too, but I have not yet had the time to complete the survey and get on-line. My current Starwood balance is pretty low, so I could use all the points I can get !

Is there a way to find out how what category a certain Starwood hotel is? I would guess the Westin in Kansas City is a little higher than the Sheraton, but the Sheraton is newer and in an area my husband and I would enjoy.

YES...go to www.spg.com After you sign in, check on using your points for AWARD travel, (by either resort chain, or specify city/state) , and the number of points necessary will be reflected. It is based upon a rating, and the higher the property rating, the more points to stay. ::yes::

Goodluck!!

it would be nice if the www.swandolphin.com website was ever up and running. Everytime I try to check my reservations, the site is down. I can see all the hotel info but can not checkout my current ressie.

I got SPG Am Ex card right after i joined and you really accrue the points fast(i got $10,000 bonus points when we got the card). I use only this card and disney visa for all charges and pay them off each month. I have really been able to use the points and cash for many nights this summer($45/night and 2000pts-depending on category) for Maine, NH, and for Baltimore on our trips to WDW. I currently have enough for 3 nights at Swan or Dolphin for our July 05 trip(and I have 8 months more to build up points). 3 nights at Poly and 3 nights at Swan over 4th. We have had great service from spg and really enjoy the benefits. We have been upgraded to cl or spg floor quite frequently.
Connears

ps I have been on swandolphin.com many times and it has been operational each time I used it.

I LOVE the SPG program. I belong to several other hotel loyalty programs but none has been as useful to me as the Starwood Preferred Guest program.

I have stayed for free in some amazing resorts including a St Regis, and a couple of 5 star resorts in Hawaii, and a lot of Westin and Sheratons all over the U.S. We have a local W hotel that I love too.
When we stayed at the Swan last summer I did not use points but certainly accumulated them. I am really strategic in how I redeem them so I won't stay at a level 4 or higher unless I am staying 5 nights (to get the 5th night free).
I love that there are 2 Starwood properties IN WDW! Also many other's close by too like the Sheraton Safari, etc.

:)

Hi Hooked Up--My husband and I are using a free airline ticket to go to go to LA sometime early 2005. Do you know of a good Starwood hotel near the beach or a nice little town? We may even split our stay between a B & B on Catalina Island and a Starwood in the city, around Beverly Hills or Hollywood. We only have around 3,000 points, but we could use points and pay the difference.

Hey Sherri,
In the LA City area the decent Starwood properties are all level 3 or higher which is 7000 points for a free night (the level ones and twos are not in desirable locations) there is a Four Points Sheraton in Santa Monica that is in a nice spot.
Also, if you felt like going to Disneyland the one in Anaheim (VERY close to DL) is only a level 2 and we stay there for free a lot.
Interestingly enough the one at the LA airport (the Sheraton not the Four Points) is actually a decent hotel and it is only a level 1. (But it is an airport hotel).

There is another level one in San Pedro (if you are going to Catalina I think that you can depart from there) at the harbor. I have never stayed there nor seen it but it is a level one so that may be an option for you.

If you wanted to go a little north of LA there is a Four Points in Ventura on the coast that we have stayed at and is a good deal as it is only a level one!

PM me if you need any more help! Good luck!!:sunny:
