Free or inexpensive things to do at WDW

You could watch the Electric Water Pageant from one of the resorts. It's cute but pretty short so I'd do it in combination with another activity at the same resort like watching the fireworks.

I know some people suggested the camp fire at Fort Wilderness, but you need to check if it's actually running at the moment. When we were there in April it was cancelled due to a fire ban.

But what I am saying is those activities/facilities should be reserved for resort guests. From what I understand, only resort guests can use the pools. I understand it's ok to stop by and look at the resort but it's ok to lie to security that you are going to dine there or shop there which is not true.

I wouldn't suggest lying because it's not necessary. If parking is available most resorts are happy to let you look around. That's what we tell them we are doing, and that is what we do. Plus we spend money. We do look in the shops and eat the food, even if it's just a snack.

At AKL we told them we were taking the culinary tour, which we did.

We've parked at Grand Floridian, AKL and Boardwalk by being honest about what we are doing. We've been turned away at Polynesian, probably because it's too close to MK. (Actually, we were offered valet parking, but we declined.)
We've been with friends who are annual pass holders and they were honest about us looking around Art of Animation, and one night, the Contemporary. There, we watched fireworks from bridge to Bay Lake Towers. Afterwards we got ice cream in Contempo Cafe.

The FW campfire also has Chip and Dale and a sing-a-long. Park at the Outpost, walk to the bus stop, take an internal bus that makes a stop at The Meadows, and it's a short walk from there. After the show a movie is shown. A smores kit is available for purchase or you can bring your own.
