Free Internet Use when Renting Points

Free internet access using the wired connection in the DVC resort room is available to Members and Guests staying on points.

this thread suggests that free internet is a member perk (and a "guest" in DVC-speak is not the same thing as a "renter", IIRC). you may get free internet or you may be asked to show your card...resulting in your being charged if you are renting.

If you are renting points from a Member then you are the Members Guest. You would be entitled to free internet access using the hard wired connection in your room. You do not have to show anything. This does not included the wireless access available in the lobby or common areas of the resort. If, by mistake you are billed, notify the Front Desk and the charges will be removed.

FYI the company that provides telephone and internet to WDW was just bought out by another company. I wonder if we will notice a change?

when the mods and other posters are suggesting renters may be charged for internet use, i just don't want to mislead anyone on what to expect.

Based on Member feedback, the daily charge for wired high-speed Internet access for Members staying at Disney Vacation Club Resorts at the Walt Disney World® Resort will be discontinued effective May 4, 2008. Guests renting Disney Vacation Club accommodations will continue to pay the daily rate for access, and high-speed Internet access charges still apply to Members staying at non-Disney Vacation Club Resorts.

Oh come on.....this is not talking about people renting points from members, lol! This refers to people renting cash rooms from Disney! The computer only knows the reservation is made with points, thus the internet is free. That's why a member booking through CRO would be charged, as it says in the 2nd part of the sentence.

I've also had a front desk cast member tell me as long as the room is booked on points, everyone gets free internet because the computer doesn't know they're not the members. I've also NEVER in over 100 dvc stays been asked for my blue card. My resort id says "dvc member" and that's all it takes to get any perk I've taken advantage of. People renting from members will also have a room key that says dvc member, and they'll still get the discounts (except the annual pass discount).

Do you suggest I inform the front desk upon check-in that I plan to use the internet that way there wouldn't be any misinformation?

This is not correct. In DVC parlance, a guest and a renter are two distinct types of occupants. A renter is NOT a Member's Guest. Indeed, this is the reason why member's are required to disclose to member services every time that they are making a reservation for a renter.

The computer SHOULD know, if the member has abided by the legal documents they signed. The member is responsible for informing MS that the person is a renter and, therefore, not entitled to those privileges reserved for members and their guests.
