It seems to me that on every tip list I have ever seen for WDW, one of the tips that always comes up is to ask for free ice water at counter service. My son is in WDW now with his class, and I told him he could save money with this tip. He has reported that at every place he has asked, they will only give ice, not the water. Is this new? What's up?

Bogus. Did this myself not 3 hours ago.

I was just there in May and had no problems getting water. That being said, if all that's offered is ice, then so be it. In 5 minutes it will turn to water! LOL

Apparently all he needs to do to get the cup filled is sit in the front row on Pirates of the Carribbean.

I don't think your son is lying. On the contrary, I find it can vary with who you ask as well as who asks. We had the snack plan . We read on the boards items you could get. Each store the story was different. I found if my DD asked they were more likely to say no to something than if an adult asked. I have asked for a cup of water before and was also told no. Bottled water only.

I live in Florida...it is a Florida law that if you purchase food in a restaurant they can not deny you water! Maybe the CM misunderstood the request. One time I asked for a cup of water. I got a cup of water no ice. It was cold.

I can't imagine how giving a cup of ice saves disney any money over giving out a cup of water. Maybe some machines aren't equipped with a spot for dispensing water?

I have been to places that gave ice but not water. But, usually there is a source of water close by. Not an issue.

My friend walked up to the counter service in China last Saturday night and got a free cup of ice water, no other purchase.

We just got back a week ago - we had no problem getting ice water at locations that had it. As a side note we'd be perfectly happy with "just" ice - as a PP mentioned it does melt quickly.

We were there last week and got free ice water many times. However we stopped to get popcorn at HS and they said they could only give me ice because they did not have filtered water.

There are indeed a few locations in each park that cannot give water, because they have no Spigot for it.

Basically, the rule of thumb is if they serve any non-carbonated fountain drink, they can should be able to give cups of water. If they only have carbonated fountain drinks, they cannot give water.

I am not sure which locations this applies to at WDW off the top of my head, but I am sure there are some.

Also, if they don't serve fountain drinks, they cannot give cups of ice or water, as they have no cups.

And I know this should go without saying, but do not use the ice from the carts or ask to use it. It is unsanitary, as people will have been touching it throughout the day.

Also, you do not have to purchase anything to get the free cups of water. Another tip is always ask for a large cup of water. Some CMs will give the largest cups, while others will give the small Soda size if you do this and most will give the child cups if you don't specify.

Another place where free water is limited is anywhere that Sodas are self serve in the parks. I believe this only applies to the Electric Umbrella, but just a heads up.

Same happened to my ds10 a few weeks ago.. Kid was drowning in sweat from playing in Honey I Shrunk the Kids and was denied at three different places. :confused3

We are here right now and have gotten several cups of free ice water in MK, HS and Epcot. I only asked at places that offered fountain drinks because I assumed the carts were not equipped to give cups of water and I was never turned down.

Our experience has always been that we could get a cup of ice water. In fact, many counter service restaurants had several cups of ice water made up and ready to go during those peak service times. We always drink water to save a little.

It is not limited, you are given either a child size cup or in AK at Restaurantosarus you get a clear plastic little cup.

Anyplace that is self serve fountains only gives a little cup.

But I don't agree that they routinely deny a child water because my kids get it for themselves all the time, in fact the very first thing they do at DHS is go over to that stand at the entrance while I go to the restroom and grab us all cups of ice water.
