Free Ice Water No More?

if so they changed it very recently. But ice is just hard water...

were they restaurants or carts? You need to ask where they serve fountain drinks.

I live in Florida...it is a Florida law that if you purchase food in a restaurant they can not deny you water! Maybe the CM misunderstood the request. One time I asked for a cup of water. I got a cup of water no ice. It was cold.

Yes, but that is when you purchase food.

At Disney, people seem to like to just walk into the restaurant and ask for water - without purchasing anything else.

Would be like being at the mall and just ordering free water at the food court, etc., but at disney it happens all the time.

Better to give out free water than have people collapsing all over the place from the heat...

Personally i'm happy to use the water fountains, i won't pass one without taking a drink, dehydration is bad for the side effects of my medication...

Whoever Disney has in charge of limiting the Frozen merchandise and attractions got overly zealous and cut out all the ice in the parks. :)

I have been to places that gave ice but not water. But, usually there is a source of water close by. Not an issue.

Have 'never' been refused a cup of water with ice at 'any' CS that has a beverage dispenser (not carts).

Will not EVER again get water from their water fountains - it is not sanitary at all - uncouth people have actually used it for a baby bidet!! :sad2:

Also, the water is not filtered, so tastes yucky to me!

The ice water isn't filtered either, at least the times I've gotten it. Just iced-down Orlando tap water (which tastes yucky to me). So I add a Crystal Light packet to make it drinkable.

Has this changed? Is the ice water filtered now?

To me, the water in the drinking fountains around the park taste like the Splash Mt. water smells. Love the smell, HATE the taste.

Yes it is filtered. Just not to the level that bottled water is filtered.

And there is nothing wrong with asking for a cup of water even if you are not buying food.

You do know that most bottled water is just that, bottled tap water. Nothing special is done to it, no extra filtering, etc. Just tap water that people for some unknown reason (and terrible for the environment) are willing to pay extra for.

Yes it's tap water but yes they actually do filter it.

I don't buy bottled water. I'm against paying money for water. But someone here said they didn't think the fountain water was filtered at all.

My family was at magic kingdom and epcot two weeks ago and we learned that if you ask for a "large" ice water you will get it in a large cup instead of the small typical water cup. Also, even though they serve drinks at the big top store in fantasyland by dumbo they will not give you the free water there, only bottled water for sale, the closest place to get free water is cosmic rays.

I was talking about bottled water you buy (and I think in your post you were to) and a large amount of it is just plain tap water, nothing done to it at all they just bottle it, straight from the "tap"

Some kiosks don't have a water supply. Is that where he's asking?
I have definitely had that happen a couple times. No big deal. Take the ice and then go to a fountain for the water.

I have had a few places where I have asked for ice water but they said they did'nt have a water, they did give me a cup of ice but pointed to a fountain that was just a few steps away. :thumbsup2

Yup, I won't ever drink water from the water fountains at WDW. Let's just say, some cultures have no idea what the real purpose of drinking fountains are. :sad2:

There's a big difference between straight tap water and bottled water at WDW. Their tap water is horrible. Hard enough to use it to brush your teeth. If you ask for ice water at a counter service or restaurant, it typically is filtered.
