I just read a thread about free mugs for DVC members. Do they give out free mugs to everyone to use for the drink stations? Or are there just paper cups at the drink stations? Is it better to bring your own cup of some kind so you can take it with you around the ship or to your cabin? Are you even allowed to use your own cup at drink stations?? I know---too many questions about cups, but it's my first cruise and I drink a lot of water and ice tea!!

I have no idea about the free mugs.

But, from my reading about mugs, most people seem to recommend taking your own travel mugs (i.e. the type with a lid which prevents spillage). As for using the drink stations, everyone seems to agree that the best approach is to fill the paper cup and to then pour the drink into your travel mug (instead of filling your travel mug directly from the spout / dispenser).

I'll admit that I'm not sure why this is - presumably to prevent germ contamination? When we last stayed at Pop Century at WDW everyone would just fill their travel mugs directly from the drink machines. But, I guess your options for buying medication are much more limited on a cruise.

years ago they used to have drink mugs but not any more. The drink station is open all the time with Coke products. serve yourself anytime. disposable cups are provided. You can not fill your own cups directly from the dispencer, but could transfer a drink since the cups are a bit small.

Though you can never be sure, we've received free tervis knock off mugs /tumblers the last 2 years at the dvc members thing on embarkation day. They're not quite spill proof with the lid, but they make ok drink cups.

Maybe that's what you heard about.

I used to bring my own mug to use at the drink station, but decided it wasn't worth the space in my luggage anymore. I find the paper cups to be just fine to use - no, they aren't really large, but not tiny either. And yes, if you do bring your own mug please use a paper cup to fill it. On an cruise ship disease spreads so much more quickly as everything is more contained so you have to be that much more careful about hygiene.

Yep just got two last week by going to the dvc meeting at 230 pm they day you board!

They didn't have any mugs at the DVC meet on our Magic cruise last week. They did have hats, buttons, and sand beverage holders.

The DVC cups are fake Tervis. I don't take them. DCL turned me into a Tervis snob. :) (I'd never even heard of them until planning our first DCL cruise)

Always use a new disposable cup to get soda, so you're not getting germs on the nozzles.

any cup you use, paper or your own, should never touch the dispenser nozzles when you are filling them anyway. :crazy2:

I did not even notice if the DVC mugs are not Tervis; one is on my desk right now from the Dream last week. It worked great for the drink station because it isn't as tall as a real Tervis and has the room for a straw. I was running up there for tea all of the time. If they don't have the advantages of a Tervis I haven't noticed it.
In fact, the actual DCL Tervis I bought in the gift shop is so tall I am having trouble finding a spot for it in my cupboard!

Agree - the cups are good enough, but are not spill proof at all with the lid, in fact the little cover over the drink spout I have determined is cosmetic and not actually functional.

The drink stations have clear signs that one is to use a fresh cup/glass for refills.

Most times we use the drink station we have a refillable container with us, such as the refillable mugs from our WDW stay before the cruise. They hold more than the paper cups provided and have a lid that is fairly good against splash-spills.

I fill two new cups with beverage then move off to find a flat surface to do the transfer to the mug. The mug holds less than two cups full, so there is some extra to drink before we are off to our destination. If we are just going to sit at a table and eat, for example, we don't bother filling mugs until we want to go walking around or to another location.

Of course not.

But all you have to do is stand and watch a drink station for 10 minutes and you'll never want to use a drink station again.

They do have smaller ones that more match the DVC ones. :) You got the bigger 24ish oz one?
