Free Dining Watch 2009 - Dates Released!! Update post 1

My TA is in Fl so that does make a difference. Staying at POP myself, what are your dates?:cool1:

9/5-9/12, when are yours? I'll be calling my TA tomorrow, but we have a Disney Visa, so I'm really hoping even if she doesn't call until later on the 26th (hoping it turns out to be true;)) that we'll be okay. We shall see; I'm very excited though:banana:

9/8-9/12 Can't wait, do you have girls or boys? I'm by myself and doing the princess dinner at Park Fare on The9th. Doing halloween party on the 11th. Maybe we can meet up for a ride or 2 or dinner. I'm so excited. This is my first trip. Free dining will make it even better. Here's crossing our collective fingers. :grouphug::woohoo:

Every time I see that over the course of a day, there have been 5 new pages added to the thread, I get really excited, and this time, it was worth it!!!!!! I really hope that these rumors are correct, for the sake of everyone around me, who has had to listen to me freak out about this for the past few months.

My DBF today, when I got all excited, was like "wait, you mean... it's not known when the dates are? Or if they're even going to release it?"
princess:"well.. they've released it in the past, and all these other offers went out, and I'm pretty sure, and I still have the pin code..."
pirate:"I thought it was 100% certain. I don't want to switch hotels or reservations. You told me everything was set."
princess:"No, you obviously didn't just listen when I was explaining it."
pirate:"...Fine. But you better be right about dates!"

HAHA... this sounds just like we did a few weeks ago before I finally booked with the 40% pin... and I'm still obsessed with the dates and info to get my mom/other family booked for FD... They just never listen.. but they sure will thank you when you have planned the PERFECT trip.. included all of their must do ADRs.. but don't let them forget how stressful (and enjoyable)all of this planning was...

but most places do allow shakes and smoothies for beverages for adults
I haven't had this same experience. I'm not a soda person; I'm a smoothie/shake person! If there is an option I pick a smoothie or milkshake over a soda every time., without hesitation. I have had a LOT of TS restaurants refuse to honor the smoothie or shake I inquired about. I have, however, had MANY of them who DID refuse me the smoothie or shake to offer to make me a fruit drink mixture such as Cranberry-Mango drink.:thumbsup2 Sometimes they are really good. I'll take a juice over a sugar based soda any day.

I think March 30th is a Monday, at least that's how it appears on my calendar :)!

Quick question... when Wilderness Lodge sold out within a couple of days, does anyone know if it was a couple days of DV opening or of the general public opening? We're booked at WL right now and I would really prefer not to change resorts.

We were at WDW last April when FD broke for general public. After being in the parks that day, I logged on and got WL Courtyard View with FD with no problem. We do not have a DV, so we had to wait for general public dates.

HI, I've got another question about the DP - I'm sure it's been answered before but here goes.

If we stay at Disney for 7 days, but only buy park tickets for 3 days (all as part of the package), will we get free food for just the 3 days we are in the parks, or for all 7 days (I'm assuming there is food offered in the hotels).

Of course, some more questions. :tink:

How do DV holders get notified?

When notification comes out-do we book that day or are we given specific days to book?

Since it is my friend and I going to I need any specific information about her other than name and address? :offtopic:

This is all very exciting, but a tad stressful too! :scared:

This is all too much. I am so hopeful and so nervous. Free dining for my family of six is so huge I am sure you all know what I mean. It's just so nerve wracking, yet exciting!! Are you all going to try to call in on the 26th then, hoping? Or are you waiting until the 30th. I am a 2x Disney Visa cardholder and I have seen nothing yet. Oh the stress!!!! Good luck anyway to all who try to get this fabulous gift of free dining :)

Okay, so I'm going to talk to my TA (but 7 est. is 5 am here, and I'm guessing she doesn't see it as important as I do to be up and calling at that time:rotfl:), but I'm really a control freak, and we really need Pop, because I've already arranged 3 fridges through fridge swaps, so my question is, can I add the FD onto my AAA package? If not, I guess I could always make a whole new package up with FD, just in case my TA can't get it by the time she gets around to calling??? How much of a pain is it to do that and then cancel one of them? TIA. and yes I'm a huge control freak, especially with Disney:lovestruc

I'm with you, I "talked" (via email) with my TA at AAA yesterday to make sure she was up on things and she said she'd call when she got in that day...to me, that was when she gets to it. SO, I wrote her back and said, can I just call Disney myself at 7 a.m and set up the package and get free dining and then transfer to AAA and she said I could but it may break even since I'm getting a AAA discount....well, if my math is correct, I'll save about $500 on FD for 3 adults and I'm only saving $200 with the package through AAA now...do I just book through Disney on Monday or wait? :confused3 Anyone have any suggestions?? Thanks!!:)

I swear, I'm sprouting grey hairs because of all of this! LOL!!:rotfl:I guess the good news is I"M STILL GOING TO DISNEY WORLD IN SEPTEMBER!!! :cloud9:

I would just make your own reservation....you really don't need the travel agent!

good luck

lisa

This sounds like the conversations that happen in my house! My husband usually turns off his ears when he hears Disney, that's because I talk about it so much.

I was just curious how fast the hotels fill up during FD ? I am a Canadian resident and not eligible for the DV so I guess I have to wait til March 30th to book. Do you think there will be any chance to be able to book Sept 23-29th or in the past have dates been all snatched up by the DV holders before the sale to the general public ?

Also, is it best to actually call in and book with an agent or are you able to book online ? Either way it seems that it will be very busy to do so - will I seriously be waiting on the hold for 2 hours ? And they don't have a toll free number :confused3 ?

Wow ! I'm excited though if the offer does come out :cool1:

Hotels do NOT totally fill up.
Certain room preferences and views fill up.
There will be rooms available until the sale ends, especially if they open more up due to interest.

What DOES happen is that popular resorts and room views fill up first.
So, standard a Pop, or wooded view at WL might be gone early.
Poly Lagoon view. You get the drift.

IF you are flexible about your resort and view, you will be fine.
Have a 2nd. and 3rd. choice. But you most likely will get your first choice, unless it is a VERY poplular one.

You might be on hold two hours. It does happen. No longer a toll free #.
(we used to cheat and do a TA one, but they don't let you use that one anymore. They closed it down. Sigh.)

We go back to school August 10. Most schools in the Southeast go back by mid-August. We have taken our kids out of school for free dining in the past and we will probably do it again this year. There will literally be thousands of school age children there during the free dining promo mid through late September.

Yeah, but it's still not so busy. We homeschool, so we can vacation when the prices are good. :thumbsup2
Biggest field trip we take all year! LOL

I meant that the room is the 82.00 rate.....
the price on Disney.com.

What do you suggest to not miss the free dining?
I also only need 1 day ticket for the deal since I am an AP holder.

Your rate would be the same online or on the phone or with a TA.
That is the rate for that time of year. No need to "lock it in."

If you book a package, you can modify it to include free dining.
This depends upon there being availability of the room you have booked.
You may have to have a second choice ready.

The package you book before the sale comes out does not have to have dining in it to do so, but packages automatically contain tickets, whichever length you request.

do I pay for the whole package now or just the deposit of one night?
I assume I can book this 1 day 1 park tickets online?[I am an AP holder]

thanks for all the help!!

Book a PACKAGE with the tickets, don't buy a single day ticket by itself!!!
You'll be stuck buying ANOTHER one day with your package.

Your dining goes by the number of NIGHTS that you stay.
So, if you book 7 NIGHTS (NOT days), you get 7 TS, 7 CS, and 7 snacks.
If you have more days than nights, you go by the nights. Plan accordingly.
You may have any number of days of tickets you desire, it does not affect dining.
You may also eat at any of the resorts, not just your own.
Value resorts do not have a TS (sit down) restaurant.
Park restaurants require park admission, so plan accordingly.
Dining reservations (ADRs) are HIGHLY recommended, and I would say REQUIRED, in advance of arriving, especially during free dining.
Do not think you will be able to walk up to restaurants.
Please make ADRs before you go. You are able to do so 90 days before arrival.
Happy Planning! :wizard:

DV just get advanced notice, usually, and can book any time during the sale.

You need to have name and address for everyone in your party.

Whew. It will be easier to book and get this overwith than to keep sitting here stressing! :rotfl:

You will get free food for as many nights as you are booked at the hotel. Normally you only need a 1 day ticket to qualify for free dining. There are tons of restaurants at the hotels you can choose from...FDP is great, we booked Aug 16-25 with a pin code. :yay:

Congratulations everybody! I was in your place last year on this thread, waiting and plotting, free dining was everything I had dreamed it would be:laughing:, and we booked bounceback. Just to let everyone know last year I booked first day of Disney Visa holder day called right away, waited 15 min and within 30 was off the phone, I already had a previous reservation with 40% off pin, we just had to convert it to the new discount and I paid full rack rate for room. You can't book online for Disney Visa, you have to call, so good luck!!! It is so much fun to see everyone post there "scores" on here tomorrow morning!

Touringplans is speculating that Disney Visa cardholders can book this Thursday the 26th.:)

I saw this on Touringplans - it states that free dining will be announced on 3/26 to DVC holders - so if true, does this mean it will just be an official announcement about the promotion with booking date to follow or does it mean tomorrow is the actual booking date? If the latter, then shouldn't we have heard something more concrete by now?

You are thinking right. Not sure how we'll hear, but if DV can book tomorrow, we SHOULD hear something by tonight. Hmmmm....
