I've tried to keep up with this thread - so maybe I've missed it if someone else already posted this idea... BUT has anyone bothered to check out what discounts US is offering and when they expire? My thought is that Disney is obviously competing with them right? I mean - DUH! So maybe they are waiting on US to announce their fall promos or finish with their current offers for summer? Then make a better deal to entice us to choose them... Maybe?

I pre-booked just before my 180 day ADR time. In the past, it has been difficult to get the ADRs you want once the free dining deal is released. So, my strategy is to pre-book, book my ADR's 180 plus 10 days, and wait it out. I understand the reasons people don't think this is the right thing to do, but my husband and I are going at this time anyway, and it just made sense to me.

Ok - I don't want to derail this thread too much here.. Prebooking isn't the end of the world per-se.. especially in your case where you are going anyway.

I'm gonna let this pre-booking thing go.. because -- as grandpa simpson would say.. it just angries up the blood. We're nearing the point where this is going to become 'something' and I'd rather that not happen.

got all my ADRs... if FD doesn't happen, well, we'll pay for it... i'm going by hook or by crook...

Yeah, I think that it will ultimately be a very similar offer compared to what's been out there in previous years. But the more I've thought about all this (and that's a LOT!!!), the more inclined I am to believe a couple things:

1. CanadianGuy is exactly right. Booking in advance in hopes of adding a promo to your ressie is like shooting yourself (and others!) in the foot. (I didn't agree with this at first, but I most definitely do now!)

2. Disney recognizes that releasing their Fall promo now will likely result in a number of current Summer ressies being transferred to the new promo dates, resulting in a net loss for them. So I think they'll wait until at least the beginning of next month to release anything for after August 14. Which stinks, because a lot of us have PINS that must be used prior to April 30. I'll be waiting until the very last minute to book with my PIN-but I can't risk losing the free QSDP only to be left with nada if the fall promos fall through.

3. Another reason this stinks is because my airfare total has already gone up about $150 over the last week, and I don't see it going back down any time soon.

4. Harry Potter is screwing everything up!!

5. For us, waiting it out is the best-and ultimately only-option. Disney knows that there are a ton of us who aren't rack-rate people (and never will be!!), but they won't be catering to us as much as they have in the past.

I agree with you all the way! I am considering booking now and just chancing it! and my airfare went up to! Plus spirit is now charging $45 EACH way for carry on bags!!! It is getting ridiculous! I hope this all works out for all of us!!!

Personally... and I am sure someone else has this problem.
I simply just CAN'T wait to book... I have heard all the arguements about waiting, and I find merit in them.
BUT I just can't NOT book in hopes of something that Disney keeps delaying releasing... they may never... I hope they are, but ya never know!!!

.Since my first time visiting WDW, before there were all these discounts, and FD, I would book our vacation 6 months ahead, why because I too could not wait to book and I wanted to know I had secured the room type I wanted at the resort of my choice. I see nothing wrong with booking early but one needs to be committed to going on that reservation, not booking contingent on canceling and rebooking if a "deal" comes out, or canceling and not rebooking. As CanadianGuy has pointed out the only person your hurting is yourself if you pre-book with no intention of keeping the reservation, rest assured there will be someone in all likelyhood who decides on a spur of the moment trip and quite happy to find the room or rooms you canceled available.
I was fortunate this year to recieve the 20/30/40 % pin which was good for the entire 2010 year, and booked my November trip on Feb4th. When I sent for the DVD in January I did so not to get a
pin" but because I was planning on booking my Fall vacation. I did not even know about this site or about discounts.
Would I have booked without a discount ? You betcha just as I have in years past because once we decide on a time for our vacation and where we want to stay it is a done deal.
I hope anyone needing a discount promo does get it, for there vacation be it late summer or fall.

Universal has a couple of packages out. It is the on site hotels that are offering the great deals. We got a week at the Hard Rock Hotel in October for $131 per night. That is the cheapest I have ever seen one of their onsite hotels ever be.

We were thinking of booking a cabin at Ft.Wilderness in October and ordering groceries from Garden Grocer. In this scenerio, I'm thinking a room only discount would work better for us. What do you all think?

It might be wishful thinking but maybe we ought to see something next week. I was looking at some of my past ressies and FD in 2007 was announce in April around the 13 or 14 I think. And it wasn't even a Monday (or maybe, my ressies shows a Friday). N-e-way, imo I don't see Disney waiting that long in the summer to have its fall special considering that historically it has not been the case and all the free incentive offered to the UK, bounceback, etc. I wish I could stop coming on to these boardsI drove back to Montreal for Easter and didn't look at the computer for 4 dayslol I was glad to see that I didn't miss anything but hey, the fun of speculating and waiting is just as exciting

There are discounts (and pins) now for room discounts.

You can not combine room and FD discounts.

Best to call up and see if there is anything right now that would suit you.

I believe the offer coming this week *may* fit for those dates.. but depending on what it is - it may not be any more exciting than what you have seen so far.

Since WDW started advertising the 30% off offer on TV (in NJ) a few days ago, I don't think the fall offers are coming out real soon. I don't ever recall TV ads for the Summer months here in NJ this late in the year. Yes, the earlier offers that had to be booked by Mar 27, but not a new on. I know it's not new and actually less discount than was offered just 10 days ago, but never the less being advertised as a new offer or it appears that way.

I was over at the universal website and got a price quote for a family of 3. The length of time I entered was 7 nights/8 days @ Hard Rock Hotel. I even added on the '1 day 2 park meal deal', plus the all day free drink refills.

The total came out to roughly $2700 US.

Not sure if I did it right, but there's not much difference between that and Disney (moderate resort) without any discounts.


Family of 3:

Universal = $2700

Disney = $3100 @ moderate resort (with no discounts).

we were fortunate enough to receive a PIN for the Loews resorts in February, a non-AP PIN allowing us to book the Royal Pacific Resort for $125 a night in June. The offer came by email in early Feb and had to be booked by the end of Feb...date of rate offer ends June 10 and there were some black out dates. So, that offer expired over a month ago, but I do believe their AP rates are on going and the length of stay offer which the longer you stay, the lower rate per night, Usually 4 or more nights to see significant discount. Not sure if WDW needs to discount to be competitivie w/US this summer as WWOHP has people booking on site at US for 2-3 nights WITHOUT discounts. I think in general WDW is discounting rooms in the usual plan of having them on property spending $ on food, souvies , longer park tix etc.
We took advantage of the PIN for RPR , we had been trying to get the Dolphin for early June and could not get all our dates, so booked CSR ON THE 30% pin for the missing days we need..but the PIN rate fio RPR blew the CSR rates out of the water , so we are splitting our vacation between RPR and the Dolphin. Have the Dolphin using AAA rate of 152...so for us, even tho WDW is offering thie 20/30/40 discounts, they are still higher than other options out there depending on family size, dates, availability. You just have to crunch the numbers and realize the only ones who make out financially are WDW and US!

No, it's a PIN code that seems to have been sent out to quite a few. We got 4 at our house, but for people that came on 1 trip with us over the past 4-5 years. Looks like they are trying to get back some that haven't been in a while from our experience. Disney Visa has a kids eat/play free (9 and under)

Pin Codes are promotion codes sent out by Disney, that can only be used by the person whom it was assigend to.

- If you've stayed at a Disney Resort in the past, chances are you are registered with them.
- If you've registered at disney.com you are likely to receive one.

It is not uncommon for you to have a PIN code, and not receive an e-mail about it.

Simply call 407-W-DISNEY, speak to reservations, and ask "Is there a PIN CODE assigned to my name (or household)?" - You just may have 1 (or more) and don't even know it.

Okay, so I basically stopped reading this thread. Skim it now and then, but that is about it. Too much criticism and bickering for me.

Anyway, I see a quote about a Thursday deal. I am assuming it is a summer deal? Is that this Thursday? I will have to keep an eye out and see if it works for us. Being we arrive on the 13TH. I didn't check into any of the other deals ending on the 14TH, because I was so confident about free dining, but now I am not so confident so am willing to take what they will give me.
