I thnk your analysis is great, Knox. Thx so much for it

Two days ago, I would have said "but is is a very important vacation". I stalked the boards for a discount as obsessively as the next person Today, however, I agree 100% with this. DO NOT PANIC. Put it in perspective; it is ONLY a vacation

Yesterday, we received 10 inches of rain. I live at the TOP of a hill. OUr house flooding is nearly impossible. We have a split level which means the downstairs is 100% completely finished. WE LOST everything. There is currently a foot of water spread throughout 1500 sq of our house. We will lose everything in our house to mold.

My new perspective: It is only a vacation

I'm so sorry....that's terrible:(

Well I will be shocked if Disney does'nt offer free dining at some point for the month of September, even if they don't release it much later on. I mean, I know at some point free dining will either be discontinued and/or changed dramatically, but I really don't think it will be this fall.

1. The recession is not any where close to being over.

2. This is supposed to be a record hurricane season.

3. There just are'nt that many irresponsible parents like me who will take
their kids out of school.

They may wait and offer it in later May or June, if ressies are not where the need them to be. I mean it could happen, but it will suprise me if it is not offered this year.

Great Minds think alike!;)

I know this was claimed in the beginning when the withholdings went into effect. I was worried about this because we are a 2 income family and they said that those were the ones who would get hit because the total withholdings would be subtracted from BOTH. So I was afraid that we would have to pay back half come tax time. Luckily we didn't!

I can just imagine who was spreading THAT falsehood around...:rolleyes1

I hope CanadianGuy is right about the Friday/Monday scenario...but since Friday is a holiday, would that put a damper on things? Or would MORE people call if they could, because they'll be off from work, and would there be less availability for the GP on Monday? Hmm...only time will tell!

Sorry, :offtopic: but this is the second time someone has mentioned this - where is this coming from? weather.com? I am thinking about a trip in late Aug and would like to be more informed - thank you,

Now, back to the speculating....:headache:

Someone did mention it in another thread, or this thread or I don't know, but I did Google it and I did find a article on it. No joke. It may or maynot happen. I don't really have a dog in this fight as we are not going this year, but I do hope that everyone else does get to enjoy what I have enjoyed the past few years.

I don't know about the "worst" but I know many meteorologists have predicted quite an active hurricane season for 2010. Keep in mind they are predictions. The same was said about last year.

Well, it can be active, but PLEASE don't come to Florida in September!!!!

COmpletely OT - But I can hardly believe that for a thread started today, it has over 20 pages already!

Typically here on the East coast, we have hurricane season from approx. July until Oct., however, we have had them as early as May and as late as Nov. The peak of hurricane season does fall between Aug. & Oct. and hurricanes have been known to be very dangerous and its not the storms leading up to the eye of the storm and following can be dangerous. These storms can shut down towns for weeks at a time depending on the damage to the infrastructure. We had Hurricane Isabelle come up the coast and do such damage to our area, we had schools shut down for over 2 weeks, no power for over 10 days, which of course then meant no phones unless you had one of the old fashioned kind that doesn't need batteries or electricity to run. So, if you book a trip and think if a hurricane come thru and you won't be able to travel, by all means purchase insurance. It will reimburse you.

Yes, if you travel during hurricane season, look into insurance.

Travel insurance came in handy for us in '08 when we were going in Sept for free dining. We only had to delay our trip by one day (due to storms caused by the hurricane off the coast), but once we got to Orlando we only had one half a day of rain.

It has been so long since we got 4/3 deal I was wondering: Does anyone know how many free nights you can get. We are planning on staying 9 nights, so I'm wondering if more than 3 would be free?
TIA

Well, have you heard the term "rain or shine"? Well substitute "hurricane" for "rain" and you pretty much have me figured out. I've driven through hurricanes and been at Disney during hurricanes. As Bill Murray would put it "its just a couple of drops...."

:confused3

Well from previous offers I believe the most was 3. When they did this offer back in the fall they only offered by 5 get 2 at value. at moderate and delux you buy 4 get 3. So I do not believe they give more then that:(

Nope -we stayed for 10 nights during last spring's 4/3 deal. we paid for 7 nights and got the three free. Now if you are thinking 2 weeks and book two separate packages I dont see why you couldn't get 6 free days!

Actually we and many people we know who got big refunds last year owe big this year because Obama decreased payroll withholding on weekly paychecks to stimulate the economy. The matching cut in taxes never came, so we all owe big come April. Yep, that extra money in our paycheck now goes back to Uncle Sam. This is very often a family's "vacation fund" and could prevent many from booking.
Ask around--I don't know of big refunds this year. Rather people are scrambling to pay the tax man.
I could see a sizable drop in bookings because of this, not an increase.

Yep, I worked on my taxes last night and wanted to cry. The amount from last year would have almost paid for our trip and now we are lucky not to owe. We can't even pay to board the dogs with what we will get back. :headache: I have been stressed all day about it.
