Do they ever do free dining in May?

i have only heard about it in Sept but not other months.

we're only staying in a cash resort for 2 days then 14 at dvc resorts and depending on our flight back maybe 2 nights at the end se it won't really effect us but if it's offered it's a bonus.

No. Free Dining has never been offered in May.

Since 2005, Disney has been offering the Free Dining promo for Magic Your way packages with a 3 night minimum and a 14 day maximum (Basic Dining Plan; 1 TS, 1 CS, 1 Snack per person per night) during the last part of August until the end of September, give or take a few days. The free dining offer is usually announced during the first week of April. The first couple of days it will only be open to Disney Visa holders and then will open up to the general public. The booking dates for this year for the general public were August 24 through September 20 and you had to book by June 22 to receive the FD offer.

Last month Disney Destinations sent out some emails that offered free dining pin codes for select dates in October, November and December. These emails were random, not for the general public, and the codes were non-transferrable. A couple weeks ago Disney Visa send out a free dining code for their card holders for the same select dates in October, November and December. These pin codes are not part of the Fall Dining promotion.

I too am wishing they open new dates.. we are hoping for February or March.
We were at Disney from Sept 24 - Oct 11 and it was quite crowded during our entire stay for that time of year, so I am surprised they offered additional free dining. Especially since I received the email from Disney Visa to book for Nov or Dec (select dates).
I guess the hope is that without adding the additional FD dates the parks may have been less crowded. So if the promo is working and they are brining in guests maybe they will add MORE additional dates in the months to come to fill the rooms and bring in additional $$$ from the spending it generates.
Lets keep our fingers crossed and our bank accounts with a little reserve

Who knows what might happen. There was never FD over Christmas either and the is this year if you start the stay during the offer dates. I was very shocked at this and even with that, more room only discounts have come out since and AP rates for some fall dates decreased as well.
