I will be WDW in september using the free dining plan, my question is, are the food choices the same as with the paying dining plan or are the choices limited since the food will be free, for example all you can eat buffets or all you can eat family style meals

There is no difference between the Dining Plan when Guests pay for it and the Dining Plan when it's offered as a free promotion. Anything you can get on the DDP from October through July, you can get when the DDP is free.
