Ok, here is one for those who like to check out new rumors.

Was at a party the other night and got introduced to this person who is a travel agent who told me their father is a major stockholder who gets all the inside info...... and this info was that Disney would start offering Free Dining in May (in addition to the Aug/Sept free dining that is already offered).

So....anyone else out there hear anything like this or is this just another one of those hopeful rumors???

I have no idea on the truthfulness, but it wouldn't make any sense to me at all. We were there in May, and - despite much more extreme temperatures than average - it was CROWDED! I don't see why Disney would need to bring any more crowds on an already "regular" (and leading into Peak) season. JMHO

At lest those are the rumors so far with booking... Disney only cuts rates and gives away food when bookings are down.

Doubt it. If her father really receives inside information is he dumb enough to reveal it? Generally, info isn't leaked to a stockholder in general...does he work for Disney?

Yeah, the words "stockholder" and "inside info" usually go along with the word "investigation" and the letters S, E, and C...

As far as I know, unless you are a member of the board, being a "major" stockholder doesn't get you anything more information than the public can get...

According to the 2006 Disney Annual Report, there are over two billion shares outstanding. Even a million shares would be less than 5/100 of 1%. How does the original poster define "major stockholder"?

Only that Disney does have to warn of significant changes in future business conditions in financial reports (welcome to the post-Enron world). If, as rumored, there is a major downfall in their bookings, that will have to be disclosed. It would also make sense to disclose whatever measures the parks are taking to offset an attendance decline - free food and hotel discounts seem to be the limit of Disney's imagination these days. Disney certainly doesn't want Wall Street to begin devaluing Disney stock more than it already has.

Thanks to all my fellow Disers for their replies. I was sure that this info was incorrect. And as far as being a "major stockholder" I suspect this was boasting on this person's part - trying to act like they know things that others do not. (I have stock in a number of companies and have never received info before anyone else does.)

It seems likely that ANNOUNCING free dining in May would follow the historical trend of the past few years.

Here's to ridiculous rumors!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
