Free Dining 2014 Discussion

The last couple times I've called Disney the automated answering system took info from the cell phone number I was calling from and the info was wrong. It took several minutes to correct it and finally speak to a real person. We recently switched our cell plan and it's so frustrating because I never had that kind of trouble before. Are you put in the queue based on when you call the Disney number or finally make it through the automated system confirming all your info? I'm concerned that those extra minutes correcting incorrect info tomorrow are going to cost me a lot of time as the queue grows rapidly. Any tips on bypassing the automated information-gatherer? Is there a different number to call? I realize the easy answer is to call on a different phone but that won't be possible for me.

Same thing has happened to me. And I have had this cell number for years.

Thanks for the encouraging words ! We haven't booked anything yet because we are really counting on FD to make this trip happen, so we are open to switching up our dates and resorts. As long as we are at Disney, we will be happy !

good luck, POP has alot of rooms too and lots of people here love that resort, we have never stayed there but the kids have already picked it for our next trip.

Phew, been doing a lot of reading.....hopefully this wasn't covered..

My original plans were to go one of the first two weeks of December, but the hubs wants free dining so we are moving our dates 11/15-11/22:cool1:.

Questions: I do not have the Disney Visa, how bad will 5/7 be to book? I am pretty flexible with my resort. My 1st choice is POR, followed by CBR, followed by POP, should I be able to get one of them?

If I apply today for the Disney Visa, will my # be available tomorrow to book a trip?

Thanks Everyone :goodvibes

you would not have the Disney Visa in time for tomorrow.

CBR and POP are big resorts, I can't see them selling out all rooms by May 7th. POR has a lot of rooms too but some people need to rooms that sleep 5.

Been hanging out here for 5 years and don't ever recall POP or CBR or even POR all rooms sold out for FD.

:thumbsup2 Thanks!

I have a disney visa but didn't use it to book. Do I need to call today and pay part of the balance using it to be eligible? Or just wait for tomorrow?

I mentioned the FD for next Christmas to my parents and they want to take the whole family! For those who have been keeping an eye of this over the years, do you think we have a good chance of being able to book Standard or Garden View rooms at POR when it's released to the general public? Last year we had to book a Royal Room which was more expensive, but I think I didn't book it until October or so.

Edited to delete as things have changed apparently since I last did FD. Sorry for the misinformation.

You only need to rebook if you made a room only reservation. If you booked a package using any type of payment other than your Disney visa you have two options. You need to make a $200 payment with the DV. You can either apply both payments to your package or you can request a refund of your original payment.

Booking a package from a RO automatically credits your orginal deposit. You would then add your a Disney Visa deposit to your new package. You should have the same travel plan, even if your reservation number changes. This allows you to save any work you have done in the MDX.

Ok, looks like it's changed since I last did FD, sorry for the misinformation. Will delete my post.

Guys, I'm super nervous about calling tomorrow. What are the resorts that typically go first? Does WL or contemporary go really fast?

does anyone know the dates yet? just hopping in here. just booked sept 17-22nd for me and hubby. going on my birthday!!!! staying at POP for the first time, hoping for FD like everyone else!!!

Question... I saw some of you discussing using a TA or not. My question is- if you do use a TA can you still book your FP+ reservations yourself? I have always had hard time pulling up my reservation besides dining. Not sure why. So I'm worried if I book through my TA (who has been awesome on our past trips) will I have an issue making my FP+ reservations rather then if I did it myself via Disney directly.... I'm debating this time around but she truly has been a huge help because of her I've never had to sit on the phone for hours for FD lol but if it's going to effect fp+ and linking things maybe I will take control this time... Anyone know?

YES, I have access to MY DISNEY EXPERIENCE.:thumbsup2

I KNow this is probably a STUPID question but I am a Massive Disney Noob..

BUT

What really is this free dining thing and should I bother with it?

We are already booked in for the 10th till the 23rd..

Is what this means that if I just rebook those same dates but on some random date that I may be able to get the same rate BUT feed my family for free?

Is it literally as it sounds...??? That you get "FREE DINING" Can someone explain how it ACTUALLY is for me.. Its 2:30am here and Im lost
