Free Dining 2013

Well that kind of stinks BUT if Free Dining were to come our that would definitely still save us a pretty penny with a ticket price increase :). I am still holding out for that....Hope the Pixie Gods hear me SOON though lol

You are safe as long as you do not change anything. If a FD discount, for example, comes out after the increase, you will have to pay the new ticket price if you add the FD to your reservation.

Would adding trip insurance to my package constitute a change that would require me to pay the higher price for tickets?
Thanks

I was thinking that. Couldn't imagine it going up by more than $20/ person, so that would not be a big loss if we got free dining. :)

I don't remember the cost last year, it wasn't a lot, BUT I had gotten 7 day hoppers and then decided after the change to go to 6 days, but it would cost me more money to go to 6 than it was to keep my current 7 so I just kept it that way and went on the morning we left for about an hour to get use of that 7th day. ;)

Be careful about purchasing trip insurance. Make sure you read the terms & conditions in the 'fine print' section. A lot of trip insurance promo script makes it look like it will cover you if you have a change in plans for whatever reason. However, the trip insurance quite often only applies if plans need to change or be cancelled for a few very specific reasons (e.g. severe illness & hospitalization).

Thanks, traveling at the end of October, still hurricane season which is what I would be looking for the trip insurance to cover, I will look into it more closely. Booking air seperately so that part would not apply.

Well it's started. Universal just raised their ticket prices, becoming the first Orlando park to go over $90. A one day one park ticket is $92 before tax. One day two park tickets are now $128.

You know Disney will follow suit.

Aacckk! I know that rising prices are [unfortunately] a way of life, but it is sad to see that ticket prices are being raised so much that it is going to be putting the ticket prices out of reach for so many families & making these parks more and more of a "rich man's playground". I have a few shares of Disney stock & I appreciate that company management is working to safeguard that investment, but come on ... Disney & Mickey should be for everybody, not just for the rich. Besides, with as much as my daughter & I spend on Disney, we do pretty well at protecting my 50 shares of stock all by ourselves! :lmao:

You may want to checkout mousesavers.com for more info on trip insurance. Many times it is better to buy from an outside company rather than disney.

Thanks, I have the newsletter, did not think about them for trip insurance.:)

Well, it's crunch time for me. We are planning to go in November, and the dates on the pin include our planned check-in date (Nov. 19). My 180+10 day is this Thursday, so I really want to have a reservation with dining so I can take advantage of the plus 10 and so I don't have to pay out-of-pocket for CRT and Hoop-Dee-Doo. Will making a reservation reduce my chances of getting a pin? I've played around on the website for months, requested the DVD and maps, all in hopes of getting a pin, but I didn't get one in the first round. (I have, in the past, gotten a pin during the second wave, but I didn't have a reservation at the time.) How many of you got the pin when you already had a trip booked for the dates included in the pin?

Another idea--I thought about booking a solo trip for my husband and linking his reservation number to our dining plans so we get the +10 and don't have to pay OOP (I'm thinking if the person making the reservation has the dining plan, you don't have to pay up front, no matter how many are in the party). Then, I wouldn't be on the reservation and could still get the pin. Is this silly? The whole reason we are checking in on the 19th is because this day has been included in free dining in the past. Really hoping I can get the pin or they will release it to Vist/GP!

Thus the reason we have not yet visited Universal.
Disney's Voodo Economics have my disney days getting cheaper the longer I stay. PLUS, I'm eating free at disney. No reason to drive my 10 member family over to Universal to spend almost $1000 when my Disney days are so "cheap".

You can be booked already and still get PINs. Every year we receive a PIN and we have always been booked already.
