Can you remind me which rental car companies allow your spouse to drive for free?

Budget I'm sure of because we have a reservation with them for Friday. I think Hertz if you are a AAA member. I believe all the other national chains charge for an additional driver.

Funny, I was just coming on to post the same question. I saw on Mousesavers that Budget allows for a free second driver if it's your spouse. So I went on the Budget site and found the info but I just wanted to confirm the they do in fact allow this at MCO. I have a ressie through Costco for my car which does in fact include a second driver but in the fine print it states that you must be a resident of the USA to rent through them....I'm Canadian. So I've been looking for another ressie and the second driver would be a huge perk...not required but would be really nice.

Has anyone actually had their spouse as the second at no charge?

Yes, have used Budget at MCO and spouse was free. We both drove the car. I like Alamo and using the Insiders program worked well for us when the spouse was free but I'm not paying extra for me to drive the few times that I do. It will be Budget/Avis for us unless another company allows for free spouse. I really don't see why they have to charge for additional drivers.
You can rent Budget/Avis through the Can. Costco site but don't think the deals are as good as when I used to use Costco.com.

AAA, COSTCO and AARP almost always include an additional driver when you use their discount code.

you may not have to if you enrolled prior to May 11, 2014, according to this website

http://millionmilesecrets.com/2013/04/02/car-rental-additional-driver/

Alamo no longer waives the additional driver fee for Alamo Insiders Members who enrolled after May 11, 2014. But if you enrolled May 11, 2014 or earlier can still add another driver for free.

:confused3haven't had occasion to try it out nor have I called to verify the validity of the statement. If anybody does, please post.

One of the perks of being a Costco member. If you use the Costco ID in your ressie Alamo, Budget, Avis and Enterprise allow free second driver
