FREAP CHAT ~ Everyone Welcome!

Think about this for a second everyone. Everyone who is posting on this thread is doing so because you like the chat. Those who don't aren't posting their thoughts. They don't post to this thread. So we aren't seeing a true representation of how people feel.

Some of you are saying that that Freebie Threads have gone on for years without a complaint. That is not true. Why do you think that the Freap Chat Thread was started? People complained about the clutter on the Freebie Thread. So that people could take their chattiness to a thread that was meant for that - chatting.

We are not going to move posts from the Freebie Thread that are "chatty." Nor are we going to allow another thread for Freebies. That would be ridiculous. What this is going to take is a bit of compromise. The people who like JUST Freebies can put up with a bit of banter on the thread. The people who like to chat can show some restraint and try to keep the bulk of the chat on the Freap Chat thread. What do you think?

Yes, but Beth- the chat thread just started about what? 6 months ago. That is only b/c people started to have a problem with the chatting AFTER YEARS of freebies and chatting in harmony! No one else had a problem with until now.

So sorry people are at work or in a hurry to get their freebies and go on- then don't go on the DIS at work! Hows about THAT!?

But Beth, that is what we HAVE been doing, and that doesn't seem like enough to the ones who pm'd you..I know personally, I never visited the chat thread in the beginning of it, I just chatted when I wanted on the Freebie Thread. Then gradually, I went over to the chat where it IS a lot of fun.. But spontaneous stuff happens on the Freebie thread, and it's really quite simple. If they don't like it, skip it, or skip the thread entirely. We have always been an inclusive bunch on the freebie thread, why should we have to become a bunch of zombies for a few folks. Is there a way we can take a vote? I would be very curious to find out how many want a strict policy, and how many want it to stay as it is now?

I agree with you all. Maybe we should have a FREAP freebie thread. I have to admit that I enjoy the chatter . It's my little escape and I often find myself laughing out loud at stuff - like that little note taker dude I pledge my loyalty to my FREAPS...(wow talk about melodramatic )

Ok so remember back in june when my DH was hit by a car while cycling. On the cat scan they picked up on an anomalie in his thyroid. Fast forward to now and many tests and biopsies later and he is slated for surgery on December 7th (65% chance that it is cancer and with his history - prostectomy because of advanced prostate cancer at age 42 -they want to be sure).

So now we are like - Maybe it was a *GOOD* thing that you were hit by a car.

The catch is - we were supposed to go to Disney from Nov 28th to December 2nd with some very dear family friends. Now we aren't going because we will have so much to do with DH out of commission for almost 2 weeks, we have to get everything done before (and we won't be going home - Canada - for xmas either). DH told the kids yesterday (about Disney not the Surgery) and they took it well...

I mean if we turned ourselves inside out and upside down we probably could go (but I have health issues of my own and this could push me over the edge )

I've got to think up of something cute for that weekend for do for everyone (our DFs are still going I've been planning this trip since last April. I have all the disney clothes, trading pins, light up spinny things, pennies and quarters for penny pressing, ADRs, Ressies for BBB with a brand new dress for DD7. Tours for DS10, notes from tinkerbell, even the lime mickey heads and funky luggage tags. Luckly no one knows how much work went into it - I'm a little bummed out -

Any ideas of something cute that I could do to make me, ahhh the *KIDS* feel better? We won't be able to reschedule for quite some time...

DH will be OK - so I am really very grateful about how things are turning out

Look at it this way-- push your trip back until DH is feeling much better and your time in Disney will feel so much more.........rewarding- you can celebrate DH feeling better and Disney all in one! It will be more lighthearted

Thanks MADD that's we figured, the kids took the news really well (we haven't told them about the surgery yet) I'll think of some goofy weird thing to do that weekend.

As I said earlier, we aren't going to have more than one Freebie Thread. We will have one Freebie Thread and one Chat Thread.

It doesn't sound like any of the Freap Chatters are willing to compromise. And you know what? I can't make any of you do anything. If you want to chat on a thread, you will chat. (Actually, I COULD get really nasty and move the Chat Thread to the CB where it really belongs. But I won't. That isn't the way we do things on the BB.) I was asking that people take other people's concerns into consideration. If you choose not to, then that is your choice. I just hoped that EVERYONE could be more considerate. It's entirely up to each individual.

It's been rainy here this afternoon.... so once the rain cleared off and we started getting the smoke that the good ole "smoky mountains" are named and known for.... I decided to step out my bad door and take a few photos. Aren't the trees beautiful!

If we set up a FREAP freebie thread - that would be considered inconsiderate?

I appreciate that some don't want the chatter, but the people who are posting the freebies are usually the ones chatting - I think that complaining about their chatting isn't exactly being considerate.

So wouldn't having a FREAP freebie thread be the thing to do? Full disclosure up front - everyone would be happy - those who don't appreciate the chatter could choose to skip the whole thread...

Yes there is some chatty responses. But most of them are responding or questioning a freebie that was posted.
How on earth can the person who posts the freebie on the freebie thread be expected to come here on the FREAP CHAT to answer questions about it? They won't know there is a question or comment about it.
Maybe the ELF chat could have come here, but then how would everyone else find out that is always $1 or that some of the items in the gift packs were missing?
So how do we decide what is freebie comment okay and what is chat? If this is listed somewhere, could someone please help me out. My search takes forever and never comes back with what I want.

It would be merged with the weekly Freebie Thread. We really don't need two Freebie Threads. Everyone - chatters and non-chatters alike will have to be satisfied with the one Freebie Thread whatever direction it takes.

The reason that you don't see others (who aren't chatters) post to the Freebie Thread is because it is a tool for them. Read it. Click on the links. Get the Freebie. No muss. No fuss. No need to discuss. (I think that I am channeling Johnny Cochran. )
