FREAP CHAT ~ Everyone Welcome!

Jeez! I'd take the drinks and dinner over what you've described too! Now I don't feel so bad! We have the anniversary edition softail. I actually picked it out and wrote the check! :cool1: We've been riding together for almost 20 years and I was ready to make a different choice so I took the bull by the horns so to speak.

Your experience sounds like one we had up in Tennessee. We were staying in Pidgeon Forge so we got up and rode up and over the mountains to go to Cherokee Bikefest. It was sunny and beautiful until we started to get to the top...then it was bone chilling cold!!! I thought my whole body was numb and would never be the same again....until we got to the other side, the temp then hit 90 and there I was walking around in leather....sweating like a real hog (had to throw that in:rotfl2: ) At that point I found out the the festival was DRY!!!! It was in an entirely dry county! No cold beverge for me! aaaaaahhhhhh:scared1: Thats my favorite part of being on the back...2 free hands for slurping! I resigned myself to the fact and started to shop...and suddenly the men all wanted to leave! What the $^%!!

Funny thing is we get rained on fairly frequently down here in the subtropics...kind of get used to it...take last night for instance, we live on the coast so we rode down to the tip of a nearby island to have a beverage and watch the sunset...while we were there it was raining behind us and we didn't even know it! Got back on the rode to head to dinner and had to ride through puddles all the way to the restaurant, walked in with soaking wet butt and legs, but never even blinked. But the cold....CANNOT STAND IT! :cold:

DH has a '01 black Road King Classic. It is his first bike and that is when we started riding. He used to talk about trading it in for another color etc- I told him to please keep it. It is broken in! Do not be like some of those guys who get a new one every 2 years. I like ours. However, we were at the dealership a few weeks back and we were looking at a dresser. I love the fact it has a CD player and the seat looks SOOOO comfy~ if he was ever to get a new bike- he would move up to that.

I have learned over the years to be prepared for the cold. We do the Toys for Tots run every year in November. I bought a great riding jacket a few years back, you cannot feel a bit of wind with thay baby on. I also get those foot and hand warmers in the hunting section @ Walmart- pop them in my boots and gloves- I also get the larger warmers that have adhesive on the backs and slap one of those on my back! Add some ear muffs and a scarf I am set to go for the whole day!:lmao:

The only thing that stinks is- I do not wear leather- so I cannot wear chaps:guilty: I wear thermals under my jeans. I say every year that I am going to get a pair of fleece lined pleather chaps especially made just for me, I have not done it yet. But now I am talking about it, I should ask my tailor if he can do it!

Thanks for asking.......

UGH! To start off- not my idea, but we left @ 9am (for a 3 hour ride???) Not a wise decision- I would have done 7am-It was DH and I, our friend who is a police Lt and 2 other guys.

About an hour into the ride- it started to pour. I flipped down my face guard, zipped my jacket up to my neck and rested my arms over the tops of my legs to keep them somewhat dry. I was just worried about DH driving, but he was fine. We rode in the rain for about 1/2 hour and then pulled over. The sun started to come out and everything was good!

Off we go- ride for a bit and pulled over again b/c our police friend's phone kept ringing- he had 7 missed calls from the police dept.- when he called them back they told him there is a domestic dispute and shots were fired!:scared1: He is a Lt so they needed him there! We were 2 hours into the ride! He had to go back!!!! They needed everyone there. So, he and one of the guys started back home. DH and I went on with another guy that we did not even know.

We finally got there and took the tour. DH and the other dude found it interesting....I am a girl, I can care less how the bikes are made- just get me on the back of one and I am happy as a clam! The tour took about and hour and a half. I was in my glory at the end.......the Harley store!!!:yay: It was now about 3pm, I got a few tees and we grabbed a pretzel. There were a bunch of tents set up and I thought we would walk around--- BUT NO! DH and the biker stranger said we better start heading back home!

WHAAATTTTTT???:scared1: It took about 3 hours to get there and now we have to go home??:sad1:

Off we go- It was a Friday and people were getting out of work- that is all I need to say. It took us 4.5 HOURS! to get home with the traffic! My butt was so numb I was almost in tears!

All in all- it was not a great day. I think if we at least left earlier- we could have done more. OR- we should have stayed for the night. The rain did not bother me, but the ride home was just the most horrible thing I have ever encountered-- It was the stop and go traffic that got us!:sad2: I would not mind if we were moving the whole time!

At least I can say I did it. And if we were to do it again- we will do things differently.

I think I would have chosen dinner and drinks (lord knows I needed a few after the first hour riding:rotfl2: ) over the day we had!

Hadley, what kind of bike does your DH ride??? Isn't it great as passengers you can drink up and chill and our DHs can't b/c they have to drive!:thumbsup2

Hey now, careful about that drinkin' and ridin'!! We wouldn't want you to fall off the back of the bike! Reminds me of a shirt I once saw..."IF YOU CAN READ THIS, THE (female dog) FELL OFF!!"

Yes- that is an oldie but goodie! They also have shirts that read "The (female dog)"

OMG- I do not drink that much that I would fall off the back! I am not a bog drinker, so after one or two I have a nice buzz.

When DH and I took the 3 day rider safety course, our instructor told us a story about how a passenger was so drunk that she actually caused the driver to crash b/c she was so unsteady on the back- I will never forget that story.

I never tense up on the back of the bike b/c it can throw DH off completely. IF for some reason I feel uncomfortable about a traffic situation or a turn/curve ahead, I close my eyes, this way my body will not tense up and it just flows with the bike. :thumbsup2

Ours is black as well, and I have saddle bags (by that I mean the BIKE has saddle bags) and a great seat with a back and boards, so I'm pretty comfy for now...I haven't fallen off yet! We ride with one guy whose got a giant road king with the ferring and windshield and cd player and gps system...the whole nine yards. His wife looks awfully comfy...but I just can't bring myself to do that...down here it kindof means you're old? I'm not ready for that realization yet! hahahaha

We do the toys for tots down here, too, and it is great, but it was about 92 degrees last year! Didn't quite put me in the Christmas mood if you know what I mean!:santa:

I know what you mean about those bikes being for older people:lmao: I think the same exact thing! But after riding for so long- you think about the comfort :rotfl2:

I told DH IF he ever did decides to go bigger- it HAS to be a Harley- I REFUSE to get on the back of one of those Honda Goldwings!:sad2: .......then you will have to get the "microphones in the helmet thingys" to talk to each other:lmao: - What is THAT all about- DHs bike is pretty loud and we can hear each other just fine- a Honda is so quiet, you can probably whisper and still hear each other!:confused3

Goldwings crack me up!!!!:rotfl2: We live in a retirement area to be close to my in laws and there are huge PACKS of those helmet wearing goofballs! I swear it's because they're all so hard of hearing it's the only way they can still find their way around! I'm waiting for them to put giant orange flags on the backs! Or just on the front one, like they're a group of foreigners at Disney!:rotfl2: :rotfl2: "Follow me! I know the way!"

Oh my! I just realized I may be offending people by my sarcasm...so let me say if you are a goldwing enthusiast....SORRY! I have given my family and friends instructions to shoot me if they ever see me near one, but I mean no harm!:rotfl: Live and Let Live is my motto! There is room for us all!

Who cares! I tell my friends who have "crotch rockets" that I do not even want them riding with us:lmao:

If it's not a Harely..........then who cares! :thumbsup2

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Cool:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
We have one guy who went out after years of riding a Harley and bought some yamaguchi somthing or another...and we make him stay a block behind us at all times! If he catches up we give him so much crap!!!!!! And his bike could run circles around us, but we make him ride in back out of RESPECT! HAHAHAHA

 DH has a '72 BMW R50/5 and it is a good looking bike, but I do like Harleys too. He got me a bike for Christmas a couple of years ago that he thought I could handle (what was he thinking? I can't even drive a standard car!). It was a Honda Rebel. After laying it down twice I decided it had to find a better home. My mom was relieved!:rotfl:
We just don't get those crotch rockets. They can't be comfortable to ride.

Hey Madd & Hadley just looking though the chat and wanted to say Hi! My husband had a sportster when we met I always liked riding, but when we bought our house we sold it to buy a riding mower for the grass, well that's been about 8 years. My dad bought a bike (not a harley) in the spring then my brother, a harley and (you know that peer pressure) well Kenny brought one home a couple of months ago a Harley soft tail '01 I did not know he was really looking until I get a phone call from the dealer saying his credit went through! My Aunt and Uncle has a dressed up cow and they have those helmets with the radio and speakers they are older style and they have the huge micophones on the front and wires coming out the sides, they also have the sheep looking fur on the seat ( I am laughing as I am typing this) and they both have those shirts and are pround to wear them! But they are fun to ride with. Kenny is talking about going up to the Grand Canyon in Pa. when the leave change in a few weeks.

Those guys who ride those have a death wish...I have never seen anyone ride one of those who looked like they even knew how to ride..Revvinng it..doing all kinds of stupid things like riding wheelies at about 65 mph down the highway. Harley riders have respect for the road and others around them.

My DH started his Harley experience around 1995..He had purchased one of those Honda-Harley Wannabees..some V-Twin, can't remember the name. He rode that for about a year, then ditched it and bought a Heritage Softtail... Rode that for awhile, then he bought me a Custom..which I was terrified to ride...hated street riding. I used to trail ride when I was a kid, very frightening for me to be in traffic. So then I got pregnant with DH9 and we sold it with 600 miles on it...It was the most beautiful shade of purple!! We made more money than what we paid for it! DH is fickle, so he is one of those guys that gets a new one every 5 years or so..at one point he even owned a bright yellow BMW, which I hated.

We haven't ridden together since beforeI had DS9..we used to ride in the mountains of North Carolina on day trips in the fall..about froze our butts...that's what's nice about riding on the back.. I would just hunker down and let DH take all the cold wind. There would be times he had to stop and pull his gloves off to warm them on the engine. He later bought some gloves with heaters in them! Ahhhh the good ole' days.

I laugh when I see those folks on the Hondas, too. They look like they are riding around on Lazy Boys!

You guys be safe out there, I hope you always wear a helmet!

You guys be safe out there, I hope you always wear a helmet!

We have helmet laws in NJ....gotta wear them. Delaware and PA do not. But when we are there- we still keep ours on. Even when we rode in FL we kept our helmets on.

A few times I have seen NJ riders stopping at the DE border and taking their helmets off.

I would like to get one of the "cereal bowl" helmets b/c they look cool, but I know deep down- why bother, I know it would not help me like a DOT helmet would.

Goodmorning everyone!! Here's to a new week full of lots of freebies:thumbsup2

Thanks TinkerBean!! That was so nice what you said about me:hug: . I'm really greatful for this FreapChat :)

cont. from last night....had to go put kiddies to bed...and put myself to bed!

We do not have a helmet law in Florida, and honestly we do not wear helmets....but my hubby has been riding bikes longer than he has been driving a car, I trust him completely and I'm a great passenger as well. I know someone could hit us, but the freedom of no helmet is a great feeling to me. We do have helmets for other states though because we like to travel. We go everywhere from Key West to the Smoky Mountains, so I do have a regular helmet, not just a skull cap, but I hate to put it on! I KNOW, I KNOW, I KNOW I should wear it anyway, but.....

Funny story. Yesterday I went to my grandmothers (shes the diabetic-- some of you have sent your glucerna vouchers for her- thank you:hug: ) and she started asking me where our swiffer was. Haha. I forgot I told her about that offer so long ago. I had signed up for a swiffer offer and it was from one of those odd sites that ofcourse- the stuff never comes. She was really excited about it and said shes been looking in the mail everyday for it. LOL. I felt bad but told her not to look for it anymore. I was pretty surprised she had remembered it and looked forward to it that much!

I got the k'nex. They will make great stocking stuffers for the kids in the family this year.

Ive also been getting the stuff from the Macy's Bridal Registry. Thus far I have received the Lenox Serving Tray, Oneida Servall, and the Mikasa Picture Frame. I know some have also received the Travel Bag (I think it was from Swiss Army or someone) and the Ralph Lauren Throw :) . If you havent done a registry you might consider it :)

I also meant to ask if anyone had gotten the toothbrushes yet from the Colgate offer? Where your child brushes does their chores and earned stars to receive the toothrbrush(s)?
