FREAP CHAT ~ Everyone Welcome!

Hey guys, don't know if you remember me - my dh was hit by a car while cycling last June...

Well it turned out it might be a blessing in disguise. When they did the CAT scan after the accident - they found an anomele on his thyriod. He had prostate cancer 3 years ago (at 42 years old - 85% imvolved - had a prostectamy - guys get checked), they did 5 biopsies on his thyriod and they have all come back inconclusive - so more test in the next week, they think there is a good chance that it is cancer.

So who knew that getting hit would be a "good" thing... Eeekkk

OK - I'll bite what is being "booed"?

Hope everything works out with your DH!:grouphug:

Cassi- I might try the homescan. We will see. Like you said-- somethings better than nothing! We are in the process of building a house though so we have a lot of purchases coming up. Does $ value matter in prizes-- or just the more things you scan?

As for pinecone-- mine picked up but i think its did that in general. I saw it mentioned that for the newbies it went from $2 to $3. Thats good because i got in when it was $5. So for them to give more money now-- they must be doing more steady business. Hopefully they havent forgot about us who have had memberships a while!!

Just a thought:
Help me understand this one, several weeks ago (late June) we asked for and received a place to “chat” and yet folks still use the “sample” site for chatting – calling it chit chat but there are times I spend 20 minutes (and I do not have 20 minutes to spare) reading chit chat. I choose three pages at random to see how much “chatting” was occurring; the first page I looked at had 16 postings, 8 of which were only chit-chatting – no sample site posting, the 2nd page had 15 postings – 11 of which were chit-chat only, and the 3rd page was the worst. It had 15 postings - 14 of which were just chit chat. Do not get me wrong, I love chit-chat – but not in a site where we agreed some months back the site should be used to post sample sites. Can you see why I am frustrated? I thought we had agreed in June that a way to avoid this problem was to have a separate site to chat (the Freap Chat site). Since I do have a limited time issue, I guess I just will have to “visit” here in Freaps Chat when I wish to converse with my Freap friends and not even open the Freebie site. I will utilize the other sample site for product samples since it does not have the chatting component. I am sorry I must restrict myself from the Disbroads Freebie site; for it was my space to go and unwind.

Hopefully my thoughts will not bring out the viciousness in some folks, I have noticed a rather “borderline personality disorder” syndrome occurring lately (nice one minute, screaming at you the next). How sad…. :sad1:

8 chats out of 16 postings on the page
11 chats out of 15 postings on the page
14 chats out of 15 postings on the page

I understand your frustration, but you have to realize that it is unrealistic to expect people to change old habits overnight. The freebie thread is over 2 years old. The freap chat thread has only existed for a few months. If you only have a few minutes, why not skip over the threads that don't have a link in them???

I am so excited...

I got my first freebie--- labels for kahlua. They came very fast... and then I thought about it. I guess I am going to have to buy some friends and co-workers Kahlua to use my lables that say "Merry Christmas 2007 K, H, and J"

:lmao: I guess it wasn't so free afterall!!! but they're nice.

I am so hoping that I get picked for the scholastics holiday house party.

I am not sure how emphatic I was suppose to be on the application. I hope it's good enough, I didn't go on and on about how wonderful scholastics books were. Do you think they'll pick me even if I didn't lay it on thick?

wish me luck.

:) Yes, you are correct. Habits are hard to change. Thinking back, my frustration regarding chit-chatting on the freebie site began a few weeks back when folks stopped being nice to one another. It was irritating to stop by during break to relax and see if there were any new samples to try and then spend my entire break skimming people’s posts b_t_hing at one another (not "to" one another but "at" one another). Perhaps a more realistic solution would be to remind folks that all are entitled to opinions and we should respect one rather than attack them for their opinions. And if a post is prompting too much chat, then one of the chatter’s could suggest the topic be carried over to Freap Chat.

Please keep in mind that all of the drama was caused by a coulple of posters who felt like they had the right to determine how the freebie thread was supposed to be used. Yes, if the chit chat is becomming a full-blown conversation, it would be nice if one of the people involved would carry it over to this thread, but it isn't up to anyone else to try and make them.

I hope that this doesn't sound harsh, but your previous post was pretty rude. It was really reminiscent of the posts that started all of the drama to begin with.

I think the majority of us agree with you kid at heart to a certain extent...the issue is that there are a few who don't mind the chatter...but hopefully they will find it in their hearts to respect the others who don't have the luxury of time to skim, skim, skim away and they will keep it short. On other freebie sights there is no chatting like here...but dis has so many other threads that are ALL about chatting! The freebie thread is NOT supposed to be one of them....How do we solve this without all the crabbing and complaining...hmmmm???
:goodvibes
I honestly have both threads in my favorite places and I peruse the freebies, add any that I have found other places, and then I jump over to the chat thread to see whats up over here...I consider them two totally different sights to visit....they are both fun, helpful, and informative, but they need to be kept separate out of RESPECT for others. That's just my opinion though. I also feel that a little chat here and there is no big deal. A lot should be redirected over here.

TINKERBEAN- We'll all be thinking of you and hoping for the best. My hubby too was hit by a car while out on our bike one evening. It's a horrible reality that cars are just not as attentive to cyclists as they should be. But if what happens with your husbands prognosis is a direct consequence of the accident...what a gift. Strange, but true! Anyway, good luck, and keep us posted, on the CHAT THREAD of course!
:rotfl2: Sorry, couldn't help but add a little sense of humor! :rotfl2:

Thank you for your thoughts - Just totally reinforces the whole "everything happens for a reason" theory.

My DH is the healthiest nut out there. Eats right, bikes 40-60 miles a day. (as opposed to his couch potato wifepopcorn:: )

Anyhow - I do love these boards and lurk almost everyday. Madd is my hero. Tinker (and Wes of course) make me laugh, and Maggimus is just plain nice:goodvibes

I do not mind a little chit chat. :chat: A short shout out does not bother me. If you want to discuss your life history or chat in general, I agree that it should be brought here. When I mean chat in general, I mean every post is chat between two posters that is more than 5 sentences regarding something that is only of interest to them.

I am not the chat police by any means. Some of the chit chat is between the people who work hard to post the freebies. Chit chat meaning one-liners. I think most everyone knows that to really carry on a long drawn out conversation that they should bring it here or pm the person if it is of no interest to anyone else.

It does not make sense to bring it to freap chat if it is just a one line response. That would be time consuming to move back and forth. Most of the people that use the freebie boards know how to determine what is a freebie post and what is chat and can skim right over it. (It takes a lot less time to skip the chat than it does to go and take the time to find the legitimate freebies to sign up for) A lot of the chit chat invlolves a question or comment about a particular freebie that some of the others may appreciate also.

To me this board is supposed to be fun and relaxing, not a place to have to deal with the board police.:rotfl: ::cop:

It would be a shame to run off some of the best freebie finders (many thanks to them) because of a difference of opinions. I do post a few freebies now and then but most of the time someone has beat me to it so I appreciate every post there is.:thumbsup2:

Sorry so long, but just my long winded opinion.;)

Tinkerbean,

Check your PMs for the boo info.

I will be thinking of your family and praying that the upcoming test come back with great results. I too believe that everything happens for a reason.

Hey that was my 100th post - yippee...

It's the little things in life that make me happy.

Thanks to posts from *way* back I have all these great posters (Albert Einstien, Major Milestones in Science, The human Genmone Project, etc.)
that I'll be using today to "wallpaper" my son's room (he's 10 and not fond of the Peter Rabbit Wallpaper that's there now - go figure:lmao: )

Now that is Budget decorating...:cloud9:

:rainbow: It sounds to me like we're all on the same page about a little chit not a lot of chat and all is well!
:hippie: I know a funny comment here and there brightens my day! "Appreciate the funny" as I tell my daughter all the time!

I agree that we sound like we are on the same page. Thanks everyone for listening and commenting. I apologize to all if my comments sounded rude. That was not my intention. I actually rewrote my thoughts several times trying not to come across as rude. It saddens me when we are verbally hitting at one another and that was occurring recently. Perhaps if we are all aware then we can “nip problems in the bud” before they occur. Personally, I also like the one-liner chats but again, this was an area where the one-liners were turning in to paragraphs. Have a good week all. :goodvibes

I had a nodule on my thyroid removed about 6 years ago-1/2 of it removed. Didn't even know it was there til my DFIL, retired internist, noticed it from across the dining room table. It was benign thankfully, but I am now on synthroid for the rest of my life..NBD at all. Anyway, I wanted to share that the surgery, although scary, was not bad at all, I didn't even need pain killers. ( a very large incision, but my wonderful surgeon "hid" mine in one of the creases in my neck..you can't even see it!) I spent one night in the hospital..a break from my 2 kids..LOL. The thing I wanted to share was what my endocronologist told me. He said that thyroid cancer is one of the "better" ones to have..it grows very slowly. I hope everything is OK, with your DH, boy what a rough couple of weeks, first hit by a car, then this...Best wishes for all of you.

Hey Madd...how was your ride? I was so jealous I made my hubby take me for a ride out for drinks and dinner! Not the same as the factory, but didn't suck either!:cool2:

I think, too, that for a loooong time, there was just a small group of people posting on the freebie thread and so it was ok for chit-chat to occur. A lot of people seemed to be lurking but only a few posted. The lurkers didn't complain about chit-chat and the comments were few and social.

Now that the freebie thread seems to have been "discovered" and there is a larger amount of posters participating, the chit-chat seems to be much more in content....and, perhaps it is. :confused3

As more and more new posters participate on that thread, I wonder if some are not aware that there is a thread where the freebie-interested people can communicate socially. As new people join in, they may see FREAP links on posters siggies but have no idea what that is about. I think patience is the key, here. :goodvibes

Thanks for asking.......

UGH! To start off- not my idea, but we left @ 9am (for a 3 hour ride???) Not a wise decision- I would have done 7am-It was DH and I, our friend who is a police Lt and 2 other guys.

About an hour into the ride- it started to pour. I flipped down my face guard, zipped my jacket up to my neck and rested my arms over the tops of my legs to keep them somewhat dry. I was just worried about DH driving, but he was fine. We rode in the rain for about 1/2 hour and then pulled over. The sun started to come out and everything was good!

Off we go- ride for a bit and pulled over again b/c our police friend's phone kept ringing- he had 7 missed calls from the police dept.- when he called them back they told him there is a domestic dispute and shots were fired!:scared1: He is a Lt so they needed him there! We were 2 hours into the ride! He had to go back!!!! They needed everyone there. So, he and one of the guys started back home. DH and I went on with another guy that we did not even know.

We finally got there and took the tour. DH and the other dude found it interesting....I am a girl, I can care less how the bikes are made- just get me on the back of one and I am happy as a clam! The tour took about and hour and a half. I was in my glory at the end.......the Harley store!!!:yay: It was now about 3pm, I got a few tees and we grabbed a pretzel. There were a bunch of tents set up and I thought we would walk around--- BUT NO! DH and the biker stranger said we better start heading back home!

WHAAATTTTTT???:scared1: It took about 3 hours to get there and now we have to go home??:sad1:

Off we go- It was a Friday and people were getting out of work- that is all I need to say. It took us 4.5 HOURS! to get home with the traffic! My butt was so numb I was almost in tears!

All in all- it was not a great day. I think if we at least left earlier- we could have done more. OR- we should have stayed for the night. The rain did not bother me, but the ride home was just the most horrible thing I have ever encountered-- It was the stop and go traffic that got us!:sad2: I would not mind if we were moving the whole time!

At least I can say I did it. And if we were to do it again- we will do things differently.

I think I would have chosen dinner and drinks (lord knows I needed a few after the first hour riding:rotfl2: ) over the day we had!

Hadley, what kind of bike does your DH ride??? Isn't it great as passengers you can drink up and chill and our DHs can't b/c they have to drive!:thumbsup2
