From this morning to right now, the prices on our flights have jumped $900!!! We've been holding out on buying them because I've been tracking the prices for almost a year and it seems that it usually has gone down at 6 months out. Now it's doing the opposite. Someone talk me off the ledge!

I think you should check to see what the First class offerings are :rotfl2:

Sometimes, they are reallllllly close to economy fares.

As for the ledge, not sure you want to go that far...unless you are flying tomorrow,in which case

:)

From what city?

What dates?

How many tickets?

Not sure how you have been tracking flights for almost a year, yet you are still more than 6 months out? Usually flights not released until 11 months out, at the earliest. :confused3

Another reason why SW is just the best, you can book and then get the credits if they drop. But otherwise, if you see a reasonable fare, you just have to take it.

How many tickets do you have? Prices will vary according to gas/oil prices as well. I'm of the club that I usually book the day they are released. If they go down, I take the credit. Obviously, I only fly Airtran, SW, or Jet Blue.

OP, I sympathize with you. Airfare has been crazy expensive, especially this last year.

My SWA just went down yesterday and I leave next week. So I got a credit. Then looked this morning and the flight to stay one extra day was cheap enough that I added a day applied my credit and only spend $40 total for the two of us to spend and extra day. LUV SWA

OP have you looked into fly from another airport close to you.

Give us some info about your trip and we can help you

I haven't been tracking my exact dates for a year. We've been planning this trip for 2 years so I have just been tracking prices from the date we would have been traveling if it were this year. I know...makes no sense. As some have noted, there are so many variables that go into pricing that you can't really predict from one year to the next. But it gave me something to do while I counted the days down. :rotfl2:

I just got kind of freaked out because I've never seen the pricing jump that much! :scared1: I just checked again and the pricing dropped down $600. :confused3

We are traveling out of Charlotte, NC for 4 adults and 2 children on 9/20-9/28. I was looking at US Airways but I'm open to other airlines. We want to give an afternoon flight going and an evening flight coming back.

I am 40 minutes south of charlotte, I promise its not a bad drive to DisneyWorld :), for the prices I just saw on USAIR for the dates and times you want you would save alot of money...............that could be enjoyed so much more for special things at Disney:) But keep trying frequently, airfare fluctuates so much, I fly to Upstate NY every month and one day the flight will be $350, the next $215 and no rhyme or reason to it! I lucked out on a Saturday morning recently for that kind of drop, sometimes it helps to look after midnight on Tuesdays, sometimes after midnight on Wednesdays. You might try Delta from CLT but that would require a layover in Atlanta usually, by the time you go to the airport early, stop in Atlanta , wait for your bags in Orlando you may have spent just as much time traveling as driving.

We actually have ran into this problem. We are leaving April 30th, and I had been watching prices, they seemed to be going down a little each day so I decided to hold off, then BAM they started going up, A LOT, like 200.00 a DAY! I was freaking out, but finally yesterday they went back down about 300.00 and I said forget it and BOOKED. Best of luck

Good point. Anything 18 hours and under for us is a drive not fly.

I just bought 2 tix on United for $355.60 last night. Roundtrip from CLE to MCO, nonstop. We normally drive, but since we are leaving DD home, flying coat the same as gas.

I here you. When Sw rates came out the other day I was a little:scared1:. But by last night the fights went up over 250.00 so instead of leaving Sunday and going for 15 nights. We are leaving Monday and going 14 nights. Not a huge deal. But at least we are paying close to the rates I saw on Monday. Hoping the Sat or Sun flight come down so we can swap our date. But I was sort of freaking last night and just finally book before they were so high we would be staying home.

Airfare is high right now. I can't believe how high it is. The same flight out of Detroit is 150.00 more per person than last year. Delta is my fav airline. But I will fly with someone else if I can't get something. Or we are flying into Tampa. We have till Oct. So I am hoping within the next 6 months it goes down!

If you are flying next year (or late this year), hold on, 'cause it appears US will not be around much longer! :rotfl2:

With a merger announcement with US Airways Inc. likely to come next week, the roles of top management at American Airlines Inc. may be becoming clearer.

when dh and i decided to do disney this year, we were 4 months out from the date we chose and the prices for air were CRAZY. i was watching them like a hawk (as in several times a day) and finally one day in the span of about 4 hrs, each flight had dropped by over $100. i pulled the trigger & booked! within 24 hrs they had dropped even further & priceline refunded me the difference :woohoo:

if i were you, i certainly wouldn't panic so far out. i would just have the money on hand so if the right deal comes along you can snatch up your tickets at the best rate possible! on the other hand, if i lived as close to Disney as you do i would drive!! i'm WAY too cheap to fly :rotfl:

That's it - less competition is driving up the prices. Delta/Northwest, United/Continental, Southwest/Airtran, USAirways/America West.

The American/US merger is going to take time. I don't think US has resolved pilot and flight attendent contracts from the America West merger.
