Ok girls..got another call...my dr. is on vacation and the head of the center has reviewed all films/lab reports from every patient - woman's health center prodocal he said. It seems that he wants me to come in for a lumpectomy even though the pathology report came back benign. He said it was smooth, but not as smooth as he would like - he is very conservative and kept saying it was benign. He would just feel better if it was removed. Even said people joke about him because he is so conservative. I asked do I need to come in this week..he said no, repeated nothing to worry about, he's very conservative, and told me I can do it in a month or two...don't wait 6 months (what the heck does that mean?) which of course I would never do...this stinks! Why would they want to remove something that was benign..could it turn into something?? He gave me a number of a breast surgeon - I looked her up already and she is the teacher/head of this sort of thing at my hospital - seems good. I'm all worried again :sad1:

Big Hugs.

When I had a benign lump I also had a lumpectomy. Not because they were worried about it turning into something, but because they were worried about it turning up on every mammogram/MRI I had in the future. They were worried that this would either cause extra stress/test OR cause us to miss something that was actually bad because it was hidden by the benign lump.

Perhaps it is something similar with you.

More Hugs.

Don't worry. It is good that he wants to play it so safe. So many doctors don't want to do that anymore. Take a deep breath and remind yourself that he is looking out for you. It's going to be okay.

I dunno, I think I'd want another opinion on this before I'd let someone start hacking away at a benign lump.

I called the breast surgeon and she is going to see me 12/30 to determine what should be done..She overrides everyone...I thought I was going to make an appt to get it done, but she is first meeting with me to review the films/disc/report etc and see if it actually needed...my opinion is to take the damn thing out even if there is a chance of it turning into something.

Hooray for it being benign. :cheer2:

Just a little update..I have my appt with the breast surgeon tomorrow. I went and picked up my films/disc of mammos and ultrasound and forms to fill out. I think I'll need an Ambien to sleep tonite LOL! Wish me luck.

Good luck tomorrow LOVETHATMOUSE! Sending best wishes and lots of pixiedust:wizard:

Because there is a 10% rate of false negative with needle biopsy. I have been in this very situation (after already having the real deal) and it is scary not to mention a PIA. But hold on to the fact that you have a negative reading in hand already and the surgeon has said he's very conservative. I LIKE HIM!! :thumbsup2 You are fortunate to be in his care as he wants to leave no stone unturned in making sure that you are cancer free. I'd much rather see things done this way than the opposite.

Good luck. PM me if I can be of any help. Hang in there! :flower3:

I think that was a poor choice of words. I hardly think her surgeon is planning on "hacking" at her breast tissue. And considering the OP's frame of mind right now, it isn't very sensitive to suggest it. Although I'm sure it wasn't your intent to be insensitive.
