Freaking out over Mamo/Ultrasound - Biopsy :(

Had a breast biopsy in January 2008. It turned out the be a benign tumour, so I had a lumpectomy and that was the end of it.

The biopsy itself was really not bad at all. I had no sedation, but once the local anesthetic started, I didn't feel anything (had the normal "burning" with the injection). I was told to avoid lifting anything over 5 pounds for a day or two, but went back to work after the biopsy. Had the biopsy on a Thursday morning was doing my normal exercise stuff by Sunday (probably would have been okay Saturday, but a snow storm prevent my run).

My worst part was that I ended up reacting to the bandage they stuck on (clear, entirely sticky and about 3 inches by 3 inches). Taking that off, was not fun!

I understand how little fun waiting can be! I had my ultrasound on 17 December (lump was found on MRI), but because it was so close to Christmas, I couldn't get the biopsy until after New Years.

Hope it all goes well for you.

From my own experience (I was diagnosed with advanced stage breast cancer 3 years ago on Christmas Eve and had my surgery on Jan 3), if your doctor thought it was anything at all, you'd be in for your biopsy already and they would be indicating that they thought it was serious (my biopsy was scheduled for 6 hours after they saw something on my mammo). The fear of the unknown is the worst part, and the odds are greatly stacked in your favor, and your doctor does not seem to think it's more than a precautionary measure.

Good luck, don't be scared, and whatever you do, stay off the internet sites that have anything to do with this type of stuff.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Thanks again everyone for your kind words, prayers and understanding...the Dis'ers here are great!

I have had four of these benign lumps. They are very oval on the mammogram and ultrasound. Mine are always very solid. They are called fibroadenomas. Both my doctor and the radiologist have told me that the smooth, oval shape is a "good" sign. Not a guarantee of anything, of course, but mostly they all come out benign.

Good luck to you. I know that the waiting and the worrying can be awful.

The biopsy went well...really didn't hurt and of course since my **** was filled with lidocane the mammogram afterwards I couldn't feel a thing. The nodule was at 12:00 and deep under the skin (which is why I couldn't feel it), and a few drs I spoke with said IF it is something, this is the best location b/c it's not near any lymphnodes. It was also smooth and oval. This is what I have going for me. I will find out sometime this week, and will be sure to post the findings. All I can ask for is for everyone's prayers right now. This is either going to be the first christmas ever...or the worst :(

I shall be thinking of your this week, waiting for results is just horrible.
Hang in there and try and keep busy.

Hugs and a little pixie dust coming your way

Sending good vibes and well wishes, prayers said too:goodvibes:hug:

Everything sounds good OP so please try not to worry. Even if it's not the news you hope for, I once thought having breast cancer was the worst thing that happened to me. In the end, I think it turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to me. The odds are so far in your favor, you just need to keep thinking positive.
