FP + What we know and what we want to know

If number 2 is true, then the target audience for that is foreign visitors. Most Americans can't take an extra 2 days for vacation.

That would be a high number of visitors. Most foreign visitors are willing to spend longer because they have traveled so far/spent so much money to get there. It might genuinely be their one and only visit to WDW. It's cheaper to add 2 days now than want to come back in 12 months time. If they think they will have a "better" vacation by adding 1-2 extra days, they would be more willing to do it.

Maybe they can't take extra vacation days, but they can turn their two Universal days into Disney days.

I agree. I just didn't feel like typing all that out in my post. ;)

Honestly, as much as Disney would like it to happen, I don't see people doing that.

It depends on how badly they want that FP to TSM, Splash, Wishes, or the Parade. If they can only get it to the day they had Universal or something else planned, it might be a drawcard to stick with Disney. I've been known to change our plans to get a certain ADR. I wouldn't ever do it for a ride, however I'm an experienced part visitor. During our first trip, I might have been tempted, to have a guaranteed time to jump on one of the ride, or a "VIP" spot to watch the parade/fireworks.

And now we are back to that NYtimes article statement about keeping Disney guests in their parks for more days. Nearly everyone thought at the beginning that this would be tied to resort guests (and resort guests may end up getting some type of advantage we don't know yet) to keep in resorts, but this is more about getting more people to stay in the parks.

Would people really be agreeable to this kind of control? I find just the idea of Disney being so sneaky rather creepy.

It wouldn't work with us. In fact Disney would likely get less time than before.

I don't necessarily think its all about adding more days (although they are more than happy if you do that too :thumbsup2) But more in-park days.

Remember Day 5's do less than Day 1. Why? Because, hypothetically, by Day 5 you have been in all 4 parks (and sometimes are simply too exhausted after 4 full days in the park). If you hang back at the resort for the day, they really aren't making much extra $$ on you. You already paid for your resort lodging whether you stay there all day or not. Maybe they make a few bucks off the over-priced drinks at the pool, or what you eat at the food court etc.

If by limiting your ride/attractions short cuts to 3 per day, you would probably go back to to the parks on your Day 5 to ride the stuff you didn't the first time around.
While you are here, please have some lunch.
And here's a 20% off any item coupon to be used in the next 2 hours at the Emporium.
Once you use that coupon, here comes a text, did you know that Gaston's just pulled a fresh batch of cinnamon rolls out of the oven??? (We know you like them because you bought 2 of them a couple of days ago...)
As you are leaving Gaston's, here's a surprise FP for the Indy Cars, just a short stroll away...

Target market, target market, target market to keep you in the park longer, spending more & more on things you hadn't thought of.

Just an update that may mean nothing...

I have a DVC room-only booking on Mar 20-24. Today I was able to do my 60-day online check-in. There was no sign anywhere of MyMagic+, FastPass+ or MagicBands - not in any of the check-in steps, and not in the Online Check-in Terms and Conditions.

It did say we would receive KTTW cards.

We're staying at the Beach Club Villas.

I suspect that we will still ride the same number of unique rides, perhaps more. We just won't ride individual rides as many times. I doubt that very many people will add days just for rerides

Is Disney turning their backs on teenagers? And does that demographic matter? Have they just given that market share to Universal? My teens and all the teens I travel with love to move fast through parks and ride as any thrill rides as possible. FP made this happen for the teens. This one park three ride limit will impact them MUCH more than me.

The middle school students I teach at talk about how much fun US/IoA are and can't wait for those new attractions. New fantasyland is not appealing. Avatarland best case scenario 2017. What is the draw for that age? I am not thinking talking seagulls and customized meet and greets are going to cut it.

This won't work for us either but we are both "return guests" so we already know how we want to tour the parks. We are also aware of activities outside of the parks we'd like to do (personally we hated UC, loved SW)

First time visitors are aware that they may never be back so they are wanting to get the most out of their time in the park. If that means scheduling 3 days at MK instead of 2 to make sure they got all the FP's they wanted, they might be willing to hand over their money for the extra time.

It doesn't cut it for many adults either.

I don't see it as control... it's marketing. Do you find it creepy or controlling when your child sees a Disney ad on TV and asks if you can take her to Disney World?

:thumbsup2 Exactly! Perfectly put! If they send you "surprise" FP's to fill in the lull if your plans, it will stop you from realising how tired you are and heading back to the resort for a swim and a nap.

Or if they know how the old FP system used to be, and how much extra work a Disney "vacation" is going to be, they may just forget Disney all together and go to Universal.
