FP+ question with Soarin' closure

Next trip will be my mother's first. My daughter and I were excited to introduce her to Soarin, but it'll be closed when we're there, so if we do Test Track first thing, I'm considering using the FP+ for Illuminations viewing. Debating whether to use it for that or for TT and take a chance at the tables around Rose & Crown.

Where is the viewing area? Same place as Candlelight Processional viewing?

Illuminations FP viewing is in World Showcase Plaza, essentially where World Showcase meets Future World. I would recommend FP for TT, it's not that difficult to watch Illuminations without a FP.

I would not do FP for Illumination I have been walking around right be for and have found a very good place 5 minutes before it started I have even found a spot while it was going on

Normally folks making their single tier 1 FP+ would be split between Soarin' and TT, with many selecting a Soarin' FP+ planning to do a rope drop for TT. In addition, folks unable to get a FP+ for either or could only snag a tier 1 FP+ later in the day may also plan to do rope drop which would again be split between TT and Soarin'. This is the reason why within 30 minutes of rope drop both Soarin' and TT have long wait times.

With Soarin' down for a while, I foresee TT FP+ becoming as rare as MK 7DMT FP+ and IllumiNations FP+ becoming like a MK Wishes FP+. (As a side note, I'll know it's the apocalypse if I see FP+ for Living With The Land run out.)

Since the new Frozen ride will not be ready until possibly May-June 2016, there is no other ride to take the place of Soarin'. If anything, I'd expect wait times for Mission: Space to possibly be higher due to increased demand for something to ride at EPCOT.

Long story short, while Soarin' is down anyone even remotely interested in doing TT should definitely try to get a TT FP+. Wait times for TT during this period are sure to be brutal.

I have not been on TT since 2006 (it was broken in 2011) so I am unfamiliar with upgrades since then. I was originally told to not FP it because we would miss out on a bunch of "cool stuff". Our original plans were pretty much like everyone else, FP Soarin & head to TT at RD. How much will we actually miss with a FP? My "kids" are 21 & 16 - I can't imagine not designing their own car would be very upsetting to them (now back when DS was 6 or 7, that may have been a problem!)

I like your post except I slightly disagree with your last statement.

Pre-frozen, and Soarin' down is likely to mean many *more* folks will simply SKIP Epcot altogether.

Either that, or they will see Epcot as a half day park to be combined with HS - where FP+ for HS is the priority. At least HS still has RNRC, TSM, GMR, and ToT. Any of those are worth a FP.

Now is the time, now is the time, now is the best time to visit the Wizarding World..... ;)

You don't miss anything using a FP at TT. Only the single rider line bypasses the car designing stations. You'll get to do it with a FP.

I had a section added that did mention EPCOT possibly being a partial day park, but took it out because I don't think it will always be the case - especially when F&G kicks in during Spring break. With Soarin' down, I'm curious how the various crowd calendars will change for all the WDW parks - because if as you say "more folks will simple SKIP Epcot altogether" they need to go somewhere. And if enough decide to go outside of WDW, it might actually not be the best time for the "Wizarding World" after all.

Excellent point. And I've never had trouble finding a spot myself (usually in Mexico at the tables, last time in France) so I'll go with the TT FP+. Thanks all!
