FP+ (No More Paper Fastpasses)

What kind of system would you prefer to use for NO WAIT TIME ON ANY RIDE?

1. PAY EXTRA for - SKIP THE LINE (just as Universal Studios offers)

2. Fast Pass / Fast Pass + ( only way available at DL & WDW )

I'll take the FP that Disneyland has, where you don't have to plan it so far in advance. I don't mind a paperless system, I don't mind accessing it from your phone. It's the in advance planning at WDW that's frustrating. Disneyland is much more laid back because there's less planning in advance, and that makes it a much more relaxed vacation for our family.

People blaming FP & FP+ for extended standby times obviously don't remember the 3+ hour long lines for marquee rides like Splash Mountain in the days prior to fastpass.

I remember as a kid going to Disneyland the year that Star Tours opened and waiting over 2 hours to do the ride. Yes it was wonderful, but we did it once and that was it. All these years later my kids and I now utilize the fastpass system and do the ride at least five times a day with very little wait. I would suggest that people get way more done in a day now then 30 or 40 years back, despite the increased attendance.

Haven't read all the replies (was keeping up in the beginning) however I think this new system is going to affect people like us- see we tend to decide on our DL trips 2-3 months out to take advantage of cheap flights/when it ends up we can take time off, so we don't do a lot of pre-planning, and also being from Canada, we don't have data on our cell phones once we are in the US (as it's insanely expensive) and depend on Wifi- do you think that DL would install Wifi for travelers? We like the legacy system as we are rope droppers who like the headline rides, so getting in a few rides early, then getting 1st up FPs and then pulling FPs for later times really works for us.

I would pick 2 as long as FP can't be booked until the day of the visit. And they don't put a limit on the amount of fast passes you can have per day (other than having to wait 2 hours or whatever.) I think paying extra would be ridiculous.

DL will have to install Wifi, and according the live TouringPlans broadcast I was listening to on FB this morning, they are in the process of doing so or will be in the process of doing so soon.

I had no idea DL didn't have wifi already!

To the PP who was not able to read all posts in this ever longer thread, DLR like WDW will have to install reliable and pervasive Wifi to make FP+ work.

Even at WDW people have to wait until 30-60 days before to book FP, so if you were 2-3 months out you'd be okay. That being said, I doubt that prebooking will be allowed. It may be a perk to staying at the resort, but not likely an every day guest thing. For one you could have AP holders blocking out FP who aren't even planning to visit just for "fun."

I think (as do many others) that it's mostly going to be a paperless system that uses kiosks and phones for FP instead of machines. This will save Disney some money as there are often CM near the FP machines (especially popular ones like RSR). Any place they can cut hourly CM is good for them as wages will be increasing each year for at least the next six years. I would expect more and more automated things to pop into Disneyland. Some of them will likely hurt the guest experience more than a paperless FP+ system.

On another note, I think FP+ could be good if it allows for things like booking F! and WOC viewing areas, etc. So long as it doesn't allow the average guest the ability to book FP before using the ticket that day, it won't be a huge game changer.
