FP for the Electrical Parade?

I had planned on trying to snatch this one for our first evening in the park, so we could watch the parade without a large time investment, but I read that you still have to get there early to get a good spot on the curb. Is that true? If so, it would make the pass not as valueable to us, as we could get a spot on our own without using one.

If I don't get the FP for it, where are the best places to sit and how far before the parade should we sit there to get a curb spot on Saturday, March 7th?

I have always enjoyed Frontierland views. Get there maybe 5-10 minutes before parade time. It will get to Frontierland about 15-20 minutes after the parade starts. If possible, go to the 11 PM parade.
