FP+ Close windows but not overlapping - Grace period?

Hi all, so I was not able to get FOP at 60 days out, but with persistence, I was able to book DD and I at 5:05-6:05 and DH and DS for 6:25-7:25. Close, obviously, but not overlapping...I'll keep trying.

If I'm not able to move one of them, I'm wondering if we can make it work. I know I've heard of a 5 minutes before/15 minutes after grace period, but we've never taken advantage of it, so I don't know how true it is. If DH and DS use their 5 minutes early and we wait 15 minutes after, we'd meet in the middle.

I'm thinking of going up to the CM at the FP entrance at about 6:04, explain and ask if we can use our 15 minute/their 5 minute grace periods to ride together. And if not, that's fine - we'll go ahead in, and they will ride 20 minutes later and it'll be fine. Of course, we'd certainly prefer to ride together but at least we get to ride.

Any experience with a similar scenario? With the grace period?

I think explaining to the FP CM what you're trying to do is the best bet. Good luck!

BTW, for those following along...
If a guest has a FP that's end-time is, say, 9:05, there's nothing would stop that guest from scanning in at 9:04-ish (not taking advantage of the 15-min. grace period,) then "dragging their feet" (slow-walking through the FP line, letting others behind pass by) until such time that someone with a slightly later FP time (within reason) could scan-in and catch up, then all enter the boarding area together.

That's what I was going to suggest. No one gets upset if you let them go ahead of you.

So just to be clear, the grace period is always in play? I thought I'd heard that there was a certain amount of CM discretion involved.

The grace period is always in play. It's built in to the FP system. The scanners turn green throughout the grace period, no CM interaction needed at all. We've utilized it often. Entering 5 min before and as late as 15 min after, the readers turn green automatically. We did it as recently as last week so I'm positive it's still working. You can tell when CM interaction is required as the scanners turn blue first. A CM must do something to make it turn green or manually wave you through. But in the grace period, that isn't needed, the scanners just turn green, exactly the same as in the assigned hour.

Is it for a show? That's the only time I've found there's no grace period (such as the Frozen show because they start letting standby in once the FP time is up).

All fastpass lines for rides have the built-in grace period. If you’re trying to claim that’s not the case or has changed, you’ll need to provide more specific information.

I agree. If it's not a show I'd like to know what ride it is that didn't have one. I can tell you the rides we have used a grace period last week without issue. Due to high crowds it was many

I think the "no grace period" attraction at MK is the Tangled restroom. You better make it on time, or it's gonna be baaaaaad....
