I was holding a FastPass for Illuminations on Dec 8th. Today I received an email stating this FastPass was cancelled and replaced by Soarin. I am crushed. I wanted to view Illuminations from the prime viewing spot. Has this happened to anyone else? What is up with this? I had scheduled this on the earliest possible date.......:sad1:

Sorry that it was canceled.

Good news is that there are many, many other spots to see the show with as good or better viewing.

Is Illuminations cancelled that evening? If not that is ridiculous. I would be calling and raising holy heck. You followed the parameters of their system and they pulled the rug out from under you. How do they know you even want to ride soarin?

Sorry they canceled your FP but don't worry about it too much. It's not hard to get a spot for Illuminations, the music and the fireworks are the best part.

From what I have seen from Robo's handy dandy maps is that the FP spot is not a prime viewing spot anyway. (That is just to console the loss - I know it is still irritating.) Now, as far as them changing the plans... I would want to know what is going on too. Maybe give them a call?

Happened to me the morning of my FP today for illuminations! They just deleted it. Grrrr.

We went an hour early and sat in the area to the left of Rose and Crown. We each got a glass of wine, relaxed and people watched. It was WAY better than the viewing area for FP.

Received an email from Disney that our fast pass for Pirates of the Carribean is no longer available due to change in their operating schedule!
This is crazy! Haunted Mansion our other fav is also not available due to rehab closure!
What's going on?!

wdwmagic posted that Pirates will be closed for a one-day refurb on December 17. Was that the date of your FP?

This happened to me yesterday (Tuesday). Before I saw the email, I logged onto MDE and saw that my FP+ for Illuminations last night was just GONE!

I called Disney, and the rep said that although my FP+ was gone for unknown reasons, I had been granted in its stead a super-duper FP+ that was good at ANY attraction at ANY park ... including Illuminations! :confused3
Or, if I wanted, Mine Train, Soarin', TSMM ... literally any FP+ attraction.

But I really wanted to see the Holiday Finale on Illuminations, so I went to Epcot & went to the Preferred Viewing Area. Illuminations went on as scheduled, and I watched from the PVA along with about 2 dozen other Guests. That's right ... the PVA was virtually empty! And I had checked MDE earlier and it said all the FP+s for Illuminations had been distributed for the day.

I suspect something glitched in the FP+ software yesterday morning.

I have to say i loved the viewing area for this Epcot show. Im not a patient person and when i stake out my spot only to have someone come in and stand right in front of me blocking MY view i get a little put off, I had a perfect view back in september :)

Illuminations is not being cancelled. It could be a glitch, it's also possible the space used for the viewing is being rented to a private party. It's not hard to find a good spot to watch it, so it's not a much needed fastpass. The Fastpass viewing area actually isn't the best viewing area there is.

The point is though they cancelled it and gave them something else whether they wanted it or not. Maybe the viewing area isn't the best but it's where they wanted to be. I would not be happy if that happened to me. I don't ride soaring so to me that would suck even more. The OP wanted to be in the PVA, his choice, whether you think it's a waste or not. :confused3

Yes it was his choice...but he no longer has that choice. All he can do is complain and they will say they are sorry, but it's not available that night. I get that they are crushed because they had expectations, but they can now be proactive in choosing a new spot to watch that might even be better; at least with Illuminations having your FP cancelled is not a guarantee that your experience watchng the show is going to suck.

At least they gave you Soarin, the people who had Pirates wiped out were given Monsters Inc Laugh Floor as a consolation.

Agreed. This another recurring problem we are seeing with Disney. They are placing expectations on their guests or selling them a fantastic new product (FP+) depending how you view this. And then, pulling the rug out from under them usually at a time where the guest can't simply decline their business anymore. Lots of reasons you can't just cancel a trip less than 60 days out.

Now, lots of people might say, its "No big deal" or even that you are "better off" without those cancelled FPs.

But to me, that's like ordering and paying for a car, getting rid of your old one, and then when you go to pick up your new car its a different colour, or its an automatic instead of a stick shift, etc. Its not what you paid for, its not what you were sold. I don't care if someone else likes the new colour better, or if they tell me an automatic is better than a stick shift (cost aside).

No one would say "oh don't worry, the car is just as good even if its a different colour" ... that would be insane. So why is it ok that Disney sells you something, you pay for it, then they change it on your days or weeks before your trip ? When you were expected to lock in 180 and 60 days ahead of time ?

If you reversed this and said to Disney a couple weeks before your trip, "Hey Disney I changed my mind, I would really like Fast Passes A B and C instead of X Y Z" ... Disney isn't going to give a crap. They will say, "We told you that fast passes were first come first served, and you can check what is available now, but the terms and conditions were clear when you purchased your trip" ...

And don't give me the BS line that Disney tells you they have the right to cancel or change FPs reservations etc. Where is that in the commercial ? What roll does that play in their sales pitch ? No where, and none.

** My two children had to have those **special super duper FP+ ** for our entire trip. The day or two before we left I logged into MDE and all their FP+ were wiped out!! All of them just for those two, while DH, DD4 and I were still golden....strange.

Gotta fix those attractions before the big holiday crush!

Maybe there are some who would do it, but I think maybe cancelling a trip because your Illuminations fastpass was cancelled is an overreaction...of course they still can if they want to, provided they eat the cost. They could even try calling and say that they expect a refund on the entire trip because their Illuminations fastpass was cancelled, but Disney doesn't have to give it to them. And no, it's not anything like ordering a car and then when you pick it up it's a different car. And yes, it's printed everywhere that anything regarding WDW is subject to change without notice (legal CYA, so you can't do anything about it legallly like suing them). Most folks just don't read that part when they are looking at the website or printed info.

It's that guests don't like that something you were looking forward to was changed. Nobody likes that. But Disney does reserve the right to do it.
