So we are planning on going late June 2016 for a couple of weeks. We are becoming WDW vets but it will be our first trip to the fort (i went 3 times as a child but stayed in cabins...i think they were more like mobile homes back then). My DD's birthday is July 6 and she will be 10 that year. We've never done a destination for her birthday because of the holiday. Airfare, rates, and crowds prevent us from going places usually. But since we bought a TT I want to go around this time.
I'm thinking since our resort will be an amusement in its own right maybe we would hang out around the fort on 7/4. I'd love to see MK fireworks but IDk if i could handle the crowds. Anybody stay during this period with advice?

I've been down once over the 4th, but we usually go down in the summer months. Expect it to be a little busier than a typical summer week. Most weekends and holidays, local residents will come to WDW. I don't think as many come out in the heat of the summer as it is for the winter holidays. If a typical summer day is an 8,9 or 10, expect the holidays to be absolute 9-10's. It looks like July 4th is on a Monday in 2016. That will make it a 3 day weekend. I'd expect it to be pretty busy until Tuesday.

Also, not sure when you have come to WDW in the past, but I saw you are from GB and Connecticut. Middle of the summer in Florida can be brutal with the heat and humidity. Not to scare you off, but if you aren't expecting it, it will be MUCH different than New England and certainly Scotland.

lol I actually live in the town of Scotland in CT! But it's always fun to introduce ourselves from Scotland. We get the strange look and "you don't have an accent"
We've been down in September a couple times and just did mid-August this past year. It was incredibly hot. I did OK but the rest of my party was hot (we were there for some of the hottest days on record they were saying. I think it must have been the heat index because it was only like 98 but nearly 100 percent humidity).
One thing I did like about the heat was I finally convinced my family to check out attractions that we normally skip by (because they were air conditioned). Finally saw Hall of Presidents and One Man's Dream.

That's funny. You had me. Hook, line... you get it. :rotfl:

Welcome to June, July and August at the Fort. 98 and 98! Until it rains in the afternoon. Then it's 96 and 110! (Not sure how they do it, but the humidity absolutely goes over 100.)

Absolutely!

You absolutely have my sympathy!! ;)

But, if you can take the enormous crowds ( holiday, very hot, + 3 day weekend) I say go for it and enjoy - just not my 'cup of tea'!! :goodvibes

We have been in the summer, but not on a holiday weekend - dh says never again!

Went this past 4th for the first and last time. The golf carts racing around (young drivers), horns and screaming did it for us. Wasn't safe to walk after dark. We thought Christmas was busy but this topped everything. Maybe you could arrive the day after the holiday when everyone would be leaving.

Would it be better to go say the 3rd week in June and leave shortly after the holiday or go right after the holiday and stay for a few weeks? I know the 4th has to be crazy but figured the quicker we could get down there after school ends the better off we would be.
