Day 8- time to go home
We woke up with dual thoughts. Have you experienced it? We were ready to go home to familiar surroundings but sad to be leaving WDW.
We had a PS for 1900 Park Fare at Grand Floridian. I thought a big breakfast would be good for us as we traveled home. Tiffany Town Car was scheduled to pick us up at noon for a 2:30 flight back home to Austin.
One last ride on the monorail. By the end of the week, we could all say the Spanish version of, "Please stand clear of the doors,..." with varying degrees of success, LOL. Everytime we go to GF, I'm amazed at the beauty of this resort. DW & I would love to stay here. Unfortunately, a teacher's salary only goes so far!
The restaurant was very busy, but we waited only about 5 minutes. Mary Poppins & Bert were outside. I don't think we've ever seen Bert before. Got some good pics with the kids. Also saw Pooh, Eeyore, Alice. Alice spent several minutes talking with the kids as did Mary Poppins & Bert.
I knew it was a good decision to come here when my nephew said, "This breakfast is delicious!"
Just thinking about that bread pudding is making my mouth water right now! DW & I ate here back in 2000. We'll probably return.
After breakfast, we "rolled" ourselves back to CR to pack. Packing to go home is so depressing. It's impossible to get everything back in the suitcases along with all the souvenirs.
We called bell services & they arrived quickly at our patio door with a big golf cart. We rode to the front entrance where our driver was waiting for us. Our return driver wasn't as talkative as Marcus (when we arrived), but still did a good job & I tipped him well.
We were at MCO two hours early & got "B" passes for our Southwest flight home. We ended up in the back of the plane, but were all seated together.
Our head flight attendant was a real "hoot." She was cracking us up all the way home. "If you're traveling with children today, I'm sorry!" "In the unlikely event we lose cabin pressure, stop screaming & put the air mask over your face. Then put the mask on your child. If you have more than one child, pick your favorite!" When we landed in Austin & the captain raised the spoilers on the wings to slow us down, she came on & said, "Whoa, big Fella! Whoa!!!"
A nice, good non-stop flight home. My brother, his wife, & my mom were there to meet us. It's always nice to see familiar faces when you get home.
Final thoughts:
This was another great trip to a magical place. There is no place like WDW. We enjoyed sharing it with our niece & nephew. We all gained weight enjoying some great food during our trip. There's nothing like a Mickey Bar on a hot day at WDW.
We didn't get to do everything we wanted. I would have like to have enjoyed World Showcase more & done a few more attractions. With only a week though, you have to make choices. DW & I are planning to do the land/sea package on our next trip to celebrate our 25th anniversary. Maybe we can do some of those things then.
For the most part, taking our niece & nephew was great fun. I probably overestimated their endurance, but they really held up well w/o complaining. Our nephew got a little ornery late in the week (He was determined to be 12 & not 11 yo!), but he held up pretty well. Our niece had a smile on her face all week, even when she was tired. My SIL says they're still talking about our trip.
