I've been reading blogs/sites for a few weeks regarding WDW in prep for our upcoming trip, i came across a mention of new building work scheduled for 2012 in World Showcase on a site a few days ago, but no other site has mentioned it at all. Is there any truth to this?

By the way the countries mentioned were Russia, Greece, Spain & Australia. I was annoyed that India or pakistan or any other curry based cuisine country wasn't one of the 4.

Nothing has been officially announced regarding a World Showcase expansion.

While there are extra spots around the Lagoon to host additional pavilions, I'd wager the likelihood of it happening anytime soon, if ever, is quite low. At the very least, I would not expect any major additions to happen to any Florida park until after the Magic Kingdom expansion is done in 2013.

yes, i agree that there won't be any announcements/changes made to World Showcase until after the Fantasyland Expansion.

what countries would you like to see open up there?

To be honest a WS country is not what Epcot needs right now. Focus on Future World it is a hot mess.

Well, there is space for 8 more countries in WS but I doubt there will be a new one soon :goodvibes
I would like it but there are a lot better opportunities to improve "the world" than new countries :thumbsup2

No merit to the rumor, considering 2 of the countries listed are in such financial trouble, one is extremely volatile and the last is stable, but I've never even heard that there was a possibility of it.

Although I'd love to see India or Pakistan, I doubt either of these will happen anytime soon. Pakistan is not very financially stable; while India has some financial stability but is mostly surrounding their international hubs, the country itself on a whole is still very poor. There is also a cultural issue between both India and Pakistan. Visitors from either of these countries would be very angry if the other country was represented (India and Pakistan are not very good neighbors and their citizens rarely interact with the other).

i hear the australia rumor in animal kingdom is picking up steam again....

Makes sense but I would rather get Mysterious Island for DAK you can't beat Journey to the Center of the Earth and 20K!!!!

These "new country" rumors have been going around for as long as I can remember.
So far, not one has come true.

I've not heard rumor of scheduled expansion of the WS (I too doubt that any expansion would be scheduled until the completion of FL), but I would like to see representation of South America or the Carribean. Jamaica should be a no brainer for the imagineers with a "Cool Runnings" inspired bobsled roller coaster or a Dunns River Falls log flume ride.

let's see....28 years since the park opening....22 years since anything was actually built....

i'll start holding my breath right.....NOW!

(wait 5 minutes and call the coroner)

i'm of the thought that they have semi-permenantly eliminated any thoughts of pavilion additions...

it would have to be some kinda situation where they have "money to burn"...and we all know that money goes to Jerry Bruckheimer.

EPCOT's attendance is still the highest for any park without a castle or filled with the Japanese....so there's no real need to do these kinds of additions that will not yield any kinda numbers gain.

Here's what we know:

Hardly anybody skips the magic kingdom or EPCOT on a trip to WDW...i would guess fewer that 5% on each
Many people skip DHS and AK....i would guess 20-30% on the studios and somewhere around 30-40% on Animal Kingdom.

so that as my premise...if i'm disney there is no need to do this. the fantasyland addition is about boosting revenue and profits....longer stays, more moichendising, more ripoff tables at bad magic kingdom restaurants (did that come out loud?)...magic!, magic!, magic!

but pavilions at EPCOT wouln't do that. they have 11 countries...and lets be honest...we all have "favorites" and "skips"...so why do more of that?

they should put all capital into animal kingdom and the studios until further notice. i would bet that the studios might finally be getting a major expansion next...probably in the next 20 years:lmao:

but we know what will be done: open a hurried, 1/3rd filled 5th gate with 2 restaurants, 2 rides, 3 shows, and 67 giftshops selling the same chinese crap.

Disney isn't just competeing with itself, Universal are becoiming a bigger competitior not to mention seaworld, legoland, citywalk, etc.

Obviously the aim with world showcase expansion is to increase the amount of activies availiable for older guests, the same kind of age range that universal attracts as well as all the smaller attarctions down I95

Universal...nor any amusement enterprise within the bounds of Earth's atmosphere...is not a threat to disney.

It never is or has been...the numbers have proved this every time they've been checked in 20 years

harry potter a big threat? even with what the Sentinel described as "significant" gain...it is hard to make much of a dent into Disney's 80% lead in attendance annually.

And the potter thing is gonna burn out far sooner than anybody not looking at this thing clearly is gonna estimate. Magic Kingdom's attendance is about 17 million annually...epcot's 11....ioa and universals somewhere around 5. the numbers don't support this argument.

the only thing that affects disney's numbers is near economic collapses...and thank god we have no fear of that!

kinda tough to sell this one....actually impossible
