Ok, here's the fire story. On our way home from grocery shopping, we see tons of black smoke in the distance in the direction of our house. It was also in the direction of the place where my brother works which had caught fire late last year. As we are getting closer, we realize that it's not close enough to be near our house or the workplace.
7:30...a few minutes after we get home, DH's phone rings. It's DS's mom saying they would drop him off at 8:05 because they are traveling. DS gets home even later than that and when he walks in, he reeks of smoke. Turns out when she called us, they were leaving to go see the fire. She decided to take her 2 kids, one of the 9 years old, to go watch this fire.
It was a very bad fire. 4 houses were destroyed and two others severely damaged. 7 firefighters were taken to the hospital and there are still some people's pets missing.
I just can't imagine deliberately getting in the car with my kids to go watch someone else's house burn down. Especially a fairly young child. And I can see if that interests people but I just don't think it's "right" to teach your kids to "gawk" at other people's misery.
And of course, it totally annoys me just because it was her.

so it's a bit different for us. Maybe that type of touring will work for them. I just hope they don't plan on strolling into the parks at 11am and thinking they will get on every ride with no wait.
You beat me along with a lot of other people. But I didn't come in last at least.
Oh, I hear you about the loss of income due the weather (?). DH works construction and in between the weather and people just cutting back, it's been hard. DH tries to work as much as he can but there is only so much he can do. Work hours really don't fall out of the sky for us.
