is it safe to come out :rotfl2:

You just like cowboys!!
mmmmm cowboys

Well that's it for me...I'll use my 1000th to say Good night. It's great having you all to chat with.
Congrats on your 1,000

Hi guys! Noting new really here. Work has been crazy!!!
Bopsmom- LOL on the budget board...you tell em' ;)
I promise to go back and catch up on everyone, right now I am going nite nite. :lovestruc
Hey pepper!! You saw that too? :rotfl2::rotfl2: She rocked!!!
Found her original comment and the one attacking her for having the $ to have a DVC but couldn't find a response...I assume she let the woman have it?
I'm sure it's been deleted by now. Posts were disappearing left and right over there earlier.
She did good. And I'll leave it at that.
 Bopsmom!...I had to tie Racetrack down until the thread was closed so she would keep her 2 cents out of it! :rotfl:
Well, I must say I have never been quoted so much outside of this thread.

Thanks guys. I swear, the devil made me do it:confused3
For starters, let me just say, you all have known me-personally-not just over the internet but we actually ARE friends here.
You know that I don't get all high and mighty because of DVC.
It's just a timeshare. It is not that big a deal.

I guess just had had enough of some of those people acting like 'oh, if I don't get this swap my entire trip is ruined' drama. 'How can we afford our wonderful vacation now?'....It makes me angry to see people act that way. Their threads, like ours, are at the graces of the mods and the owner. Their board, their rules. I just couldn't believe how outraged they got when the solution was so simple-go elsewhere and do swaps.
Also, I hate the Disney (or anything that's a luxury) at all costs attitude. If not getting a fridge is going to cause you to go over budget or cancel your trip-you might need to reconsider going or cut something out. In these times, I think everyone needs to be cautious with their money.

I really don't care if the rental board stays or goes either. I personally would never send $$ to someone I don't know for something that important.

It also seems a lot of people in particular have an issue with DVC owners.
Granted some are justified but, again, but we go to great lengths not to be one of those cases. Heck, on the last trip there was a major malfunction with our room and DD had to sleep on the balcony (Christmas Eve no less) We called but, didn't raise a stink about it. They did their best but it didn't RUIN our trip or make us feel like they should comp us our vacation. PoopHappens
I guess I just gave them a name to hate-what the heck,it's not like they didn't already feel that way about DVCr's-this just let them post about it.

I didn't reply to that person btw, there was no point, she was spoiling for a fight-even saying she thought I personally attacked her-the last bastion for people like that-if you don't like a post call 'attack':sad2: She, on the other hand had post deleted left and right.

Thanks guys for your support. I'll try to stay out of trouble, if possible:) :flower3:

What room category did you have...I really liked those bunk beds?

Yeah, Wendy, you are going to have to share more details about your trip.

OK. We had a Venetian Family Suite in the Italian Village. All the suites over there (IV) are the same configuration, the difference is the location. We got the cheapest one! You can also add a living room to the mix, which costs more and puts you in the Butler Suite category. Also makes sleeping capacity go from 6 or 8 up to 10 or 12.

We have never stayed in the French Village, but I know they do have alot of suites, 1, 2 and 3 bedrooms. We stayed in the "old building", which they are now calling the "Caribbean Village", the first 2 times we went. Those are mostly your basic hotel room and some suites (this is the "budget section"!). Also in the CV are the villas, which are 1 and 2 bedroom suites. We had originally planned a 1 bedroom villa for this trip, but when they opened the Italian Village, we just had to go that route! I really do think the IV is the nicest part (it IS the newest), plus it has the best pool and is closest to the beach.

If you book at a time when there is a special (like right now they are offering up to 60% off for travel this month and next I think), and it isn't a holiday week (think Christmas or Easter weeks), you can get a pretty decent price. And if you aren't picky about your flight, let them book it for you and they get a good price there too. Direct flights are rare though, unless you are going from Miami or some other southern city. But there were about 10 flights listed on the Departures board, and they went all over the place.

Another nice thing, if you have little ones, is their partnership with Sesame Street. When my kids were younger, they would get so excited to see Elmo or Cookie Monster! Now they just want to run away!:rotfl2: They do some SS shows, a parade, character meals, photo ops...hmm, sounds sorta like Disney, but with different characters!:rotfl:

Well that's it for me...I'll use my 1000th to say Good night. It's great having you all to chat with.

Congrats Ev!!

Bopsmom, I would have liked to read your posts over there--just to see the "dark side" of you!:lmao: I agree that folks can really get silly and snarky over the stupidest things. I mean, having a fridge makes or breaks your entire vacation??? Puhleeeeze!:confused3 They totally messed up our return flights this trip, and while I wasn't pleased, I did what I could to fix it and then just let it go. Not the end of the world. There are so many more important things to spend my energy (and ire) on!

When I got up an hour ago, the sun was shining and the day was looking hopeful. Now it's grey and cloudy again. The rain is fine, I know we need it. But these bedtime thunderstorms have GOT to go! DD is absolutely petrified of thunderstorms. We are talking abject terror. She came shrieking into my room last night like the grim reaper was chasing her. Nothing else can transform her so quickly from a snarky teenager to a whimpering toddler! I truly do understand, as I was scared of them too until the first one where I had HER with me! But I was never as terrifed as she is. It's hard not to laugh--not at her, of course, but at the situation. *sigh* Well, it's supposed to be 83 and SUNNY Saturday and Sunday, so I'm holding out for that. It will feel like Turks and Caicos all over again!

DD has her next swim meet Sunday--it's the Section Meet. About an hour or so away, and we have to be there at 8:30 am. Yuck.

Just found out our school budget did pass yesterday. Yay!!! I hope our incumbents were re-elected. We really do have an excellent school district. I figure, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, so I voted for the folks who have been doing such a great job. Guess I'll have to get a paper today to find out who won.

It made for an exciting night! I sure would not want my family pics on someone else's cd either. I just posted my opinions elsewhere and the opinions were not against the DIS's rules. I just know flames fly! You just cannot have opposing opinions anymore and we've discussed that before. Sometimes the mood is right and you have to express yourself...I'm with you! I just don't want a Missing Bopsmom in our siggies!

Good morning! I missed all the excitement last night...Bopsmom, are you okay? I love the TKer solidarity.

I myself am involved in one of the last photoshares scheduled for September. For just BF and I, we've been lucky to have been able to go every year the last few years, so pictures aren't a "must do", just something nice for us to have. And he seems to poop out mid-trip so the rest of the Photopass is just me! I don't think I'd necessarily pay the full price for pics, but that's my choice. Now, if we had little ones, I'd definitely get the pictures.

For my trip this week, because of my nieces, I'm paying for the full Photopass. This IS their dream vacation and I want to get every moment I can documented. I wouldn't feel so comfortable sharing pictures of young girls with strangers. Again, just me.

Honestly, there are ways to make a vacation fit your budget, you just have to realize what your budget is and work with it. I do hope that people have cooled down a bit today. Its sad to see fights break out on the forum that has each given us so much. I like to see the support and generosity that can be found. I just wimp out and avoid confrontation. I get enough of that in my real life.

Wendy, I had the same thunderstorms too! Sorry that DD has such a difficult night. Hope she got some good sleep in there.

Congrats on reaching 1000, Ev!

I think a big part of the problem is the entitlement mentality that so many people seem to have these days. "I want it, I deserve it, therefore I MUST have it". Like the 16 year old from a trailer park in the UK who just married her 17 yo boyfriend in a $200,000 wedding! Hello???? Are her parents insane??? She wanted a big fancy wedding, so Daddy put himself on the verge of bankruptcy to pay for it? (He resurfaces concrete for a living). Oh, and they bought the happy couple their very own trailer as a wedding gift ($36,000) The photos were incredible. Talk about trashy, tacky, etc! Little girls dressed up like prosti-tots. The whole thing made me want to barf.

I see this stuff all the time on a lesser scale. Parents who can barely pay their mortgage are going into hock to throw a huge Sweet 16 bash for their daughters, or an over the top Bar/Bat Mitzvah, or even buying fancy sports cars for their new drivers. WAKE UP PEOPLE! Set your priorities straight! When I turned 16, I had a party. In my parents' basement!!! With homemade cookies and off-brand soda for refreshments! And you can bet your boots I will NOT be shelling out $20 grand or more for a big party for DD when she turns 16, no matter what her friends' parents are doing! (thank God she is one of the oldest girls in her grade, so her day will be long gone by the time her friends start having these ridiculous parties.)

Ay yi yi, don't get me started... (OK, too late!)

Ev!

I saw something the other day on TV that looked really cool to do at Epcot. For those of you who are staying long enough, your child can work with Kim Possible for an adventure.

Disney's Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure is an ultra interactive quest at Epcot theme park based on the Disney Channel animated series, Kim Possible. Transform into secret agents, join Team Possible and help save the world from super-villains with the help of a high-tech "Kimmunicator".

Here is the link http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/parks/epcot/attractions/kim-possible/

marie: I thought of you when I saw this because from reading your DL trip report I noticed that your DH and DS often go off to do rides while you and your DD do other things.

Wendy, I totally agree! People have no long term vision, or the concept of repercussions! Too many times, couples are heading for divorce before their wedding is even paid for!

My niece is bordering on that insanity. She watches too much MTV. They have this ridiculous show about Sweet 16s that just disgusts me. Of course, everyone wants to be a princess, but life is tough, and we don't always get what we want!

I'm not a parent, so I can't pretend to know how it is to raise a child right and to teach them properly. All I know is that a LOT of people are not doing a good job. You see is whenever you go out. People just forgot how to parent, and that sometimes you just have to be strict and tell them "no", or better yet "are you kidding me?!"

sometimes you just have to be strict and tell them "no", or better yet "are you kidding me?!"

A foriegn concept to far too many parents these days!

My favorite responses are "I may have been born at night, but it wasn't LAST night!" and "on what planet do you actually think THAT would ever happen?" My kids hate it when I say that stuff!:lmao::lmao:

hee hee, its so cute when they think they're smarter than we are. Or that they're trying to do something that we've never done (yeah, right!). Been there, done that, even did it better than you!

BTW, Happy Earth Day!

Now, go take your big, hulking SUV for a nice long drive, and remember to leave all the lights on in your house while you're gone!:lmao:

(I am SUCH a radical...)

M&N Hah! I might go missing but, 'I'll be back":goodvibes

It's not foreign to us 'old timers' and I have Extra practice thanks to years working with Middle Schoolers.

BTW- Thanks for the new word for today prosti-tots

Thank you, that's what my first post was referring to. The one that was more tongue in cheek than snarky.
As for MTV, have you seen the new Teen Cribs, it's disgusting and even DD agrees with this. I hate all the self absorbed-literally Go for Broke shows on TV now.
MK I am sure when you are a parent you will have a nice sweet, caring, level-headed child. 1)because you are and 2)the 'internet aunties' will be here to make sure you get all sorts of advice-if you want it.:goodvibes

Happy Earth Day to you too.
Wearing my Tie Dye:flower3: Sent DD off in her WWF t-shirt. Watered my plants from the rain barrel this morning-(we got 9 inches of rain in the span of 4 hours on Saturday) just gonna 'hang out' since DH is MIA again this week.
:upsidedow

Hi Tubybrown: See you are earning your ears. Welcome to the Thread Killer thread. We are really nicer than we may sound right now. :rotfl: This is a safe thread where you won't get flamed for giving an opinion. We just go off on rants once in a while to vent! Tell us about yourself.

:grouphug: well, hello there Tubeybrown! How you doing? And thank you for the compliment on my siggie...its a bit busy down there but it makes me so happy! I'll be taking down one of my counters next week, but I'm sure to paste something else there....I can't seem to leave it alone!

please stick around Tubeybrown and let us get to know you! We are a bit fiesty, but rather entertaining if I do say so myself....

 Bopsmom! And believe you me, if there are babies in my world, I WILL be asking for help! I tend to stay away from MTV now---it just gets me so mad! But I do catch True Life once in a while, that show really shows you about how hard life can be.

Happy Earth Day everyone!

Afternoon!!!! Looks like I missed all the fun this morning.

I don't agree with the photopass shares at all but then, that's just me. But I'm not going to tell anyone that they should not do it. It's their decision and I respect that. What really gets me is when the shares go wrong and they expect either Disney or the Disboards to fix it for them. They cry about how the pictures are so important to them and they may never get to go again, yada, yada, yada. If they are soooo important, why are they taking the risk that they may not get them. You can't afford photopass by yourself, don't get it. Bring your own camera, the cm's will gladly use your camera. Heck, most of the times we've been there, I've had other guests come up to me while I'm taking a picture of the kids and ask if we all want to get in on the picture.

Magikitty, you're doing a share and that's cool. You know what could happen and you are not relying on the pictures to make or break your vacation. That's being realistic. And for the trip with your nieces, you know how important those pictures will be to you and you are not taking the chance of anything happening to them. And I certainly wouldn't want "strangers" to have access to my kids' pictures. Along with my real name and address.

You are all right about everything being a me, me, me mentality. Our vacation isn't Disney this year. We wanted to go sooner and wouldn't be able to save up enough to go without touching the savings account. I know what I could have done.....charge it all and then file for bankruptcy. Isn't that they way you are suppose to do it?

If we couldn't afford to go to Florida for vacation this year, we would go somewhere even cheaper and closer to home. And by afford, I mean we are still able to save the same amount for emergencies, the kids, etc and then still save for vacation. Vacations are extras, living with a monetary cushion is a necessity.

Oh, and there won't be any budget blowing sweet 16 party here either.

Ok, ranting done.

Tubeybrown :welcome: Hope you stick around. Seriously, we are usually calm and relaxed around here.

Bopsmom, ok, fess up. You really are a DVC snob. :lmao:

Ya know, some people think it's so weird that I have "friends" on the internet that I have never met (other than Racetrack and MK). Well, you guys have more in common with me than alot of the people I know in real life! Sensible parenting, responsible spending, conservative values (I'm not saying this in a political way, but more in a "how you live your life" way.), just good common sense!

I guess that's why this is a safe place here on the DIS--we respect each other, and treat each other the way we would want to be treated. We may not always agree, but we will always defend each other's right to our opinions.

I just love you guys!:hug::hug::hug:

:welcome: from me too Tubeybrown

You mean after 2 YEARS you haven't figured that out:laughing: I guess I had better work on my attitude more.:hug:I wouldn't want to let the other DISr's think I was nice or something.

 Wendy! M&N mentioned this yesterday, how we aren't exactly setting a good internet example to others with the TKer meet. Some people have little faith in finding good people on the Net. But after so long, we really do know each other! Besides, even if circumstance permits you to make a new friend in real life, you don't know anything about them either. It just takes time and being careful!

Racetrack, you will totally enjoy Universal Studios. You're being smart about vacations and budgets and honestly, you're expanding horizons. You're open-minded about "the other side of Orlando" and that's a great thing!

BF and I are spending a few days offsite to do US and Blue man group. He's also been asking about Sea World, and I can exchange points to get those free. I already have an AP to US, so we just need to get him a ticket. Our extra few days won't cost us very much, other than the rental car. Its all about being prepared and being thrifty!

Aha Bopsmom! I knew you were too good to be true! A DVC snob? Well, I never!
