There was just another one of those Dannon Yogurt ads on tv - "four(-pack) yogurt cups for $1". Do they tell you each cup only contains 100 ml of product?

Yes, I realize I'm exaggerating. A little. Sure, a lot of companies have downsized their 'cup' from eight ounces to six ounces - but Dannon's making consumers think this is such a great bargain. It's not. It's still fifty cents for eight ounces.

Grr.

When I see a "cup" advertised in that fashion, I don't look at it as a quantity, but rather what kind of container it is. For example, if I go to the local ice cream shop, I ask for a cup, which is the container I am expecting, not the quantity that the cup holds.

I was looking at those the other day. Is the dollar pack (containers) the same size as the regular priced ones? I didn't look that close. I didn't buy it.

I usually get Yoplait Delights, Fiber One, or Light and Fit.

ETA- I look at both the cup size and the price. I'm not expecting a full traditional cup as measure, but I do expect value for the money I spend. If not, I'm passing on whatever it is.

I saw that advertisement too and I wondered the size the yogurt cups.

Yep--I passed them by also. Picked them up, and put them right back down. The store I was in only had the full fat/full sugar version. But even if they would have had the light yogurt--the size was not a deal.

It's a pretty good deal if you wind up throwing out half a container of yogurt every day because you can't (or don't want to) eat all of it.

I think they're perfect for DS.

I don't eat yogurt and he can't eat an entire container by himselfso these are perfect.
Not exactly what they had intended, I'm sure.:rotfl:

Blame English, where the same word can mean more than one thing.

It's still slightly cheaper than store brand... and significantly cheaper than Yoplait or any other name brand. If you eat it daily, I think it's a good deal.

Haven't seen these yet. But I agree, the change from 8oz "cups" to 6oz is deceiving. I find I have to double check everthing I buy now. Problem is, if the oz of something is vastly different from before, I need to buy 2 of that item! I have two growing DS's and sometimes these new packages just don't have enough in them for our family!

Same with coffee containers. ::yes:: Used to be a pound. Now, varies from 12 oz to 14, most often.

Sizes get smaller to keep the cost the same; or so I'm told.

A cup is a container, unless 8 oz is meant. Then, of course it's a measure... as with everything... beware, be savvy.

There used to be a time when an 8 oz cup size was a full milk serving. Now, with them cutting down the size, you either have to eat 2 or get your extra calcium elsewhere. :(

And it's ridiculous to try to do recipes anymore with these 6 oz containers. It's the same with a Philly cream cheese bar. It used to be a larger size, like 8 oz. An old recipe may say use one box/bar of Philly. But, now that they've lopped off 2 ounces, people don't realize they have to buy an extra bar to get the rest of the cream cheese for the recipe. :sad2:

Oh, I know a cup is a container (heck, I get a 20 ounce "cup" of coffee every day on my way to work, what do you mean, save money by making it myself, do I look like a coffeemaker :rotfl: ). I actually added "(cup)" to the thread title to avoid any confusion with the free Walt Disney World entertainment called Four for a Dollar!

No, I just thought it was funny. The typical cup of yogurt was, for years, yes, eight ounces. Then, sure, some companies went to six ounces to reduce costs (while not charging less). But I think these ads are funny. You get the strong impression you're at LEAST getting four of the six-ounce containers for the dollar - but just looking at the product in the ad, you can tell it's four four-ounce cups. This puts the pricing RIGHT IN LINE with most other yogurts!

Okay, fine - I admit it. I paid SIXTY cents each for the WW yogurts Friday, and they weren't even the flavor I like! But they were there, and I was there...

I'm pretty sure the WW yogurt (as well as Yoplait) is 70 cents here.

And... compared to the ones that come in smaller containers, it's a LOT cheaper. Granted it's those "special" yogurts like Stoneyfield and Activia, but I buy those BECAUSE they're smaller. Not because I care about the "specialness". LOL. I just don't want to eat a full container of yogurt.

All this being said... none of the stores here have the 4/$1 Dannons here yet.
