Found old safe in my basement

I just noticed something.............

If you go and look at the picture of the close up of the door, it spells Bahm, not Baum............... maybe it isn't a Baum safe????????

It is hard to tell because of the style of the lettering, but I'm not the expert that c4a is. (Btw, do you remember if those 'stained' areas are bare to the metal or are they really just stained?)

agnes!

Here is my idea of the events.

Owners who knew the combo removed all valuable items and left the safe since it was to expensive to move. Lots of safes are found in old buildings.

as for opening it...

Find a guy that will work on commission. 50% for anything up to $200, 20% up to $1000, 10% up to $5000 and $500 for any value found over $5000.

No cost if no value is found inside.

Oh phooey, Mikeeee, you're probably right.

agnes!

Found another "pretty" to look at-these go for $300-700(not very rare):

See the acorns on the hinges? Man, this is a beaut!!! Now, THAT is craftsmanship! Just don't make them like that anymore.:sad1:

For those of you holding out on some stocks so we can go to the "Mouse House" or "Mama needs a new pair of shoes..."

Wouldn't call myself an "expert" on this-way too many manufactures/patents/designs produced (and to learn)-I just LOVE the earlier lockboxes (late 1800's to mid-1940, US (nothing against the UK-just a different style)
Still checking patents.

IDEA!!!

When my now 17 y/o was about 18 mos old or so - I put him in his car seat, and shut the door. As it was shutting it was like slow motion. I had already put my purse on the passenger seat and my keys were in it.

****NnnnnNNNNoooooOOooooo!**** Like in the movies.

We had to call the police to open it and since there was a baby inside, they were there lickity split quick!

So, your baby accidently crawled into the safe and closed it. You call the police. When the police arrive with the locksmith and they open it, OOPS! you realize the baby was just upstairs napping. My bad!

It will work.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

This happenned to me but I had no kid in the car. The officer said "we can only come to assist you if there is a child involved or the car is running." so I said, "oh, thanks anyway." Then he said- "Ma'am, if you have a child in there or the car is on- we can come and assist you right away"- then I realized he needed me to say it! Anyway- the keys were out in about 2 minutes-

Looking forward to Safe watch '08!

Aaack. Just noticed the time. Will keep looking at work tonight-won't be able to log-in till tomorrow, though.

If this thread gets too long-will someone please make sure it doesn't unravel (tie a knot to a new one-ya'll know what I mean.).:thumbsup2

Mikeeee is probably right, but I gotta find out how this ends. It would be so cool if there really was something in there.

Mikeeee you are brilliant!! What a great idea!

Ok, im subbing on but i have to say that the last time I subbed on to a thread that held me in suspense the OP of that thread never did come back and tell me what her neighbors were up to! Please OP of this thread keep us posted to the end!:worship:

MEEEEEEEE TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Even if you hack into it, destroy it and find NOTHING inside. I HAVE TO KNOW.

I still can't sleep right after the Neighbors thread. *cry*

Subbing.

Wow, waiting to find out what treasures the mystery safe might hold is like waiting for the next season of Lost to start!! ;)

I have no clue what it could be made of or anything, but how cool is that!!! You totally have to post what you find inside when you do get it open!!!

That is neat! I want to know what's inside too. Even if it is just papers, they may have some interesting info.

I looked around the collectionbuddy site. It's pretty cool they have everything. They have a disney collection group, pixar cars, and a bunch of hot wheels. Lots of other cool safes too. I saw a "collectapedia: there with some info on safes. Nothing about "Cracking" safes though. lol. Anyway it's a cool safe. And I wish I had one hanging around my house. Your really need to tell us what's in it when you get it cracked. I'm dying to know.

Please be sure to document with video or pictures while they are opening it :) Can you find out any more about the former residents of your home or it's history? Perhaps there are relatives in the area that might help you shed some light on anything you might find. Hopefully you can get into it without destroying the integrity of the safe.

I can tell you that little else would excite me more than a find like this in an old home, (I've always dreamed of owning an older home like this and restoring it) but if I was to find anything that would have potential sentimental or historical value to a family, I would be heartbroken, but probably feel obligated to at least attempt to return it to the family it once belonged to.

I'm eagerly awaiting to see what you have discovered. Good luck!!

This keeps getting better and better. My DBF wants to know why I keep checking the computer :rotfl:
