Someone dumped two precious puppies behind our high school today. I brought them home so they wouldn't get hit by a car, but I can't keep them. We have three dogs and two cats of our own. I've spent the day calling no-kill shelters and adoption agencies. So far, they are still in my backyard.

Aren't they cute? I'm calling the black lab mix Timber and the blue heeler mix one Wolf. Our high school's mascot it the Timberwolf. So since I found them there it seemed right. :teeth:

I'm concerned about what I'm going to do this weekend. It's supposed to get really cold. DH says we may have to take them to the pound, but I don't know if I can stand that. I'm such a softie. Anybody know anyone in Oklahoma who is wanting a really sweet and friendly dog?

They are adorable! I bet you will find a good home for them sooner then you think.

And they are sweethearts, too. They wag so hard when you go outside that their rear ends wiggle. ;) They're good with kids and they seem to get along with our other dogs. Just wish I knew who would like a Christmas gift. :teeth:

Oh I wish oklahoma wasnt so far away! I would take one in a heartbeat!

Hope you find good homes soon!

Same here, I would take on them in a minute.

Where in OK are you? My sister lives in Yale, OK. No idea where that is. I know that she doesn't have any plans to get dogs right now, but who knows what she could be convinced to do. She's a dog person for sure, but hasn't had any in a few years since a bad marriage ended (long story). At the time she had 4 dogs--3 old ones and one young one. I told her I'd take the young one (Sheena) if she's get her to me. My sister drover her from Idaho to Maryland and she's been with us ever since. The 3 old dogs she had have all aged and died. :(

Again, she has no doggy plans in the near future, but you never know if you happen to be near her.

maybe call a few local vetrinarians-they may know of someone who does foster parenting for puppies in need of a home (may also know of someone who recently lost an animal and is seeking a new companion). any local news stations? our local station shows abandoned animals up for adoption a few mornings a week.

Call your local news station, you'll have a home for them by morning if they run the story, you'll probably have MANY homes for them.

Good luck...I wished I lived near OK, I would take the cutie black one! ADORABLE

Not off hand I don't, but my home office is in Tulsa and employs about 500 people if you want to PM me

Tigger&Belle, I'm in Norman. It's in the Oklahoma City metro area. Not sure exactly where Yale is. I think it may be near Stillwater. That's not too terribly far.

Jipsy, I sent you a PM. Any help would be appreciated.

I never thought of calling the news station. I wonder if they'd come out?

They are adorable! I so wish I could take one!

This time of year? They DROOL over stories like this! :teeth:

When I had the rescue kittens last spring, I made up cute flyers w/pictures and I put them up everywhere. I had DH bring some to work, put flyers up at the local vets offices, Starbucks, etc...I even went to the police station with a flyer and they put it in their front window. I found homes for both kittens this way.

The only thing that scares me about your doing this this week is that it's RIGHT before XMas. People like to give a puppy for XMas w/o thinking about the fact that it's a lifetime committment. Can you keep the puppies until just after XMas and then start papering the town with "free" flyers? That might be a way to find them a reliably good home.

Oh my goodness MerryP they are SO adorable!!

I hope you can find good homes for them!

The problem with keeping them for a couple of weeks is that the weather keeps getting bad. I'm just not sure where I can put the little guys. I don't want to leave them out in freezing rain and snow, and without checkups I really hate to throw them together with my dogs too much.

I did hear from a couple of rescue groups today. One is in Salisaw, OK. She deals in puppies, so if I don't give them away in the next day or so, I can take them on a road trip and she'll look for homes for them. The other woman didn't say where she was located, but I sent her their picture. Maybe she's in the Oklahoma City metro area. I have my fingers crossed. A rescue group would be perfect, since they wouldn't have to hurry to find a home.
