Found 2 pups that were dumped and need homes

Any idea what size they will be?

I've always heard to look at a puppies feet because they grow into them. Timber (the black one) has huge feet. I'm guessing he's going to be a big boy. Wolf on the other hand has smaller feet, so he might be a bit smaller.

Deb, how sweet of you to offer to take one to Florida. If someone is headed to Chicago, we might just try that.

Okay, does anyone know if anyone is headed from central Oklahoma to Chicago? :teeth:

I'd have to drive 5 hours, but what's a little gas to save two lives?

Bless you! I wish there were more people like you in the world!

MP, a couple of those rescue groups may have been from me. I asked a co-worker of mine and she knew some rescue groups in OK so I gave her your email addy.

I hope it works out - they are adorable :)

The airplane thing is a bit more complicated than we thought. They have to have had their shots and be at least 8 weeks old. I'm not sure about that and I haven't taken them to a vet yet. So we're holding off on the Chicago plans for a day while we think about it.

Thanks Jipsy. I didn't ask how they heard about me. I'm just thrilled that I now have two options if I can't find them a home. It was going to break my heart if DH took them to the pound. (And please don't think he's a meanie. He was sitting on the porch tonight with them licking his face. He loves them too. We just can't afford to keep two more dogs right now!)

MerryPoppins - they are soooo cute! You are so good to have rescued them & to be giving them a temp home. I wish I could take one - but with my broken leg right now, I don't think I could handle housetraining a puppy. I couldn't stand making the little guys stay outside - you're right, it's supposed to turn nasty here this weekend.

There used to be a rescue shelter in Norman - north of Robinson & east of I-35. When my mil lived out there, her dog would go roaming & end up at that shelter. They would call her to come get him. This was years ago though, not sure if they are still there. I second the idea of calling the local news stations & maybe the Transcript. Especially since you named them after the school mascot where they were found! That is one of those "heart-string" tugging stories they love. Tell them you've got cute kids to feature in the story too! (not to give away of course!)

Good luck!

OMG they are adorable. I do not think I could give them up no matter what! I hope you get them a good home and it would be great if one of the people on the boards was able to take them. Maybe there will be a Christmas Miracle and they will be able to make it to Chicago. I am bumping this in the hopes someone see's it in your area and adopts them.

I almost hate to post this reply as my husband will kill me... But... we are relocating to the Orlando area from Nevada. I think we will be driving through OKC as we are heading to St. Louis first for Christmas. (If we go the south route.)

If I absolutely BEG him, we might be able to give a ride to a pup.
We will be traveling with 4 dogs of our own, and a cat. So, as long as the pup is small, we can take an extra passenger. We have one full Jeep Grand Cherokee!!!

lesroi, we'd need to make decisions today. I'm probably taking them both to a puppy rescue tomorrow, as it's going to turn really cold this weekend and my outdoor dog isn't sure he likes to share his doghouse with these two bouncy pups. They aren't shy, so they climb right in, but he isn't sure he wants to join them in there. ;)

Aaaaaawwww they're so cute! How could anyone dump such adorable pups like that?!?!

If I didn't live in England i'd have one in a heartbeat, hope you manage to find good homes for them!

Still haven't found forever homes for the puppies, but I think we've decided to take them to a rescue group tomorrow morning.

All three of my dogs have now decided that they're afraid of the pups. Can you believe that? :confused3 They're just way too friendly and my Bichons are freaked out by them. I now have to carry one dog out to go to the bathroom because the happy puppies jump on her and she shakes from horn to hoof. I just can't continue to do this to my own dogs. If we were keeping them, I'm sure they would adjust eventually, but it's just silly when they're going to have to go. Besides the weather is going to get bad and I don't want them out in the cold. Last night we caged the pups in the house, but it's not a good solution.

A lady in Guthrie sent me an email. She has 10 wooded acres and is a breeder. She rescues pups on the side and looks for homes for them. She gave me her web site and I was impressed. I'm calling her today to see if tomorrow morning would be okay with her. *sob* It's going to be hard to hand over my babies. I promised myself I wouldn't get attatched, but it's so hard.

So unless we hear from someone who wants to adopt today, I think they'll be off to their new home tomorrow.

give yourself a pat on the back, you gave a good effort intrying to find a home for these dogs.

I'm always sorry that I live in Indiana - cold, boring and overall yucky here - but expecially now. If I lived closer I'd adopt them from you.

We have 13 dogs puppies right now so what's 2 more. :dog2:

Good luck, they're so cute!

Today was traumatic, but good. We delivered our babies to the nicest woman this morning. She was driving a car full of animals to a shelter in the eastern part of our state. She had two dogs, 5 puppies and 10 cats in one car for the trip. She does this every weekend. I think the woman is a saint.

We all cried - the whole family. But we know in our hearts it was the right thing to do. They guaranteed that they will place them in loving homes. They are very picky about matching up the puppies with families they will fit with. My boys may get their shots and actually go to an adoption tomorrow, depending on what the vet says. The driver gave me her card, and promised to keep me informed, so I'll know when they get a placement. That made me feel good. I keep picturing them in new loving arms and that helps the hurt a little.

She said in that part of the state and in western Arkansas, there are not nearly as many pets to choose from. There isn't such a variety that we have to choose from here in the metro. So they are more quickly adopted, hence the reason she drives out a load each weekend.

Thank you to everyone who offered to help. And thank you to everyone who thought good thoughts. I'll post back on this thread, if you'd like, when I hear that they got new homes.

Thank you for taking time to find these puppies a home. Too many people in this society would just have dropped them off at the local pound. Now thanks to you they at least have a chance at a good life :flower:

I agree, the woman does great work. :goodvibes Please keep us updated when you hear anything. And thanks again for what you did for them. :grouphug:

I got a call from the adoption center tonight. They gave my babies their shots and a checkup. When it turned out that they were healthy, they took them to an adoption that they had set up for today. Both went to loving homes that were excellent matches. I'm feeling so good about it now. She said they'll make sure that they both get fixed when they are old enough, but they're in homes for the holidays.

Timber went to a family that drove all the way from Missouri to see him. They had a little girl and they were looking for a really big dog. The vet could tell that they were part Great Pyrenees because they had two dewclaws on their back legs. That means they will be very big dogs. The family loved Timber and so did their little girl. They checked out to be a perfect match and they took him home with them to Missouri.

Wolf went to a family much like my own. They had two teenagers, one girl and one boy. She said they sat in the pen and took turns holding and loving him for the longest time. She said she could tell that he was eating it up and they were crazy about him. So he went home with them in Arkansas.

I told my DH it's like this was where they were supposed to go. My heart is a lot lighter tonight. Thanks again for all the positive thoughts and the help you all gave. Isn't it nice when a story has such a happy ending?
