Fort Wildweness Junction

Egads...that's an old one, and long, long dead...almost 20 years I think.

Not that it couldn't be resurrected, but unlikely I think.

In the early 90s, as part of the "Disney Decade" plans, there was a plan to link WL and Ft. Wilderness, with a moderate resort in between, called alternately Ft. Wilderness Junction and Buffalo Junction, and they'd bring back the Ft. Wilderness Railroad to link them. It was supposed to have an immersive western theme, with dirt roads, horses, etc. and I think they wanted to bring the western show from DLP over for it as well.

Economic problems at the time shut down all of those plans.

This is so interesting.

About a month ago someone asked in one of the DVC threads, where would you like to see DVC expand into next.

And my fantasy idea was that they should build something between the VWL and Fort Wilderness. There is so much land there.

I thought that DVC could use some free floating upscale units that would incorporate a new location for Deluxe Tree Houses and Deluxe Log Cabins, with a path to Fort Wilderness facilities and Wilderness Lodge.

I even privately thought it would be cool to resurrect a railroad between all the Wilderness properties, but I thought it would be difficult to operate that profitably. Walt loved his railroads, and the Western Frontier.

Another fantasy was to build a huge 360 degree Tree House Restaurant on top of a new Lobby for the theme main building of the new Resort.

And to resurrect River Country, but not connect it to the Lagoon, and make it something like an exclusive version of Storm Along Bay, but with a huge wilderness lazy river ride with occasional mild waves representing white water rafting. I could even envision a western motif Indian area, and theme the place to some of the characters of BROTHER BEAR and Native Indians.

So I realize that is just my own crazy fantasy what to do with the area, but I didn't think Disney ever had any ideas of it's own what to do with this land.

I was thinking very upscale and plush, and not like the Disneyland Paris Sante Fe moderate hotel.

Why not expand the VWL to the east? They could add a separate Main building and lobby with themed sections from various National Park Style Lodges. It would allow for Grand Villas to be added. :thumbsup2

This is a GREAT idea !

Buffalo or Wilderness Junction was to be modeled after Hotel Cheyenne at Disneyland Paris.

This is the same link I drew between what was planned and what was made.

I just think with the addition of DVC rooms and the new value suite resort it may be a while until a new resort of any type is built. Last years occupancy rates didn't demand more more rooms even as they were being built. Disney probably needs to relax the building a little.

At least outside the parks....

Disney would want to build before they actually need the rooms, at least if they are projecting the need. Otherwise they would lose the potential revenue.

True, but if they have 85% occupancy how many extra rooms do they have each day and what would adding 1000 more really do?

It's not 1990 when they were adding to a small base.

Oh, OK thanks for the clarification. When I finish counting the pennies in my change jar and buy one of the houses at Golden Oaks at least now I know where it is going to be.

I don't know???? A whole lot of talk about this on some other boards. I know I'm on board. So many directions to go.

I haven't heard that mentioned since I worked at the Disney phone company (1997 - 2002) . . . . . .

2013/2014 According to sources, Disney engineers have been spotted going over the site, to determine just what will need to be done to remove the remains of Water Country. Others have been seen near the front of Fort Wilderness talking about plans to build new barn facilities to move the current Tri Circle D Ranch to a new location. As for the resort itself, I’ve been told that this will be a new DVC Resort, with the design being based on the old Buffalo Junction plans from years ago (minus the now defunct Fort Wilderness Railroad and other extra features), filling the gap between the Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness. You can find a nice article about the once proposed Buffalo Junction (aka: Wilderness Junction) concept at Progress City USA. (Note: Previous rumors about the next DVC Resort indicated they were looking at a site across from the Coronado Springs Resort that may have had some kind of California theme with a special pathway to Blizzard Beach).

Could it be true?:confused3

Screamscape seems to be feeding off the same rumors, even possibly these posts :)

The Tri-Circle D is completely the opposite corner from FW, so it may be unrelated - unless they want to build new stables as part of the resort. But that seems a bit much.
