Fort Wilderness Log Cabin VS. 2 adjoining at POP

We are in a pickle while trying to plan our WDW vacation this fall. We have two young children that need to go to sleep much earlier than we do and also need to be in a quiet/dark place. My husband stays up into the wee hours watching TV so really a separate sleeping room for children is preferable.

The least expensive option inside Disney is to get a log cabin a Ft. Wilderness.

However, a friend recommended to adjoining rooms at POP.

Can anyone offer advice? Pros/Cons?

Thanks!

There is another choice, the family suites at the All Star Music resort. I believe you get 2 bathrooms, a kitchenette, a bedroom & pullout couches and chairs in the living room to sleep a total of 6. I think the cost is about the same as 2 preferred rooms at a value resort. We are doing the 2 rooms at Pop this trip because I am traveling with my 21 yr old son & his best friend from college. They will have 1 room & I will have the 2nd. We are only going for 4 nts during free dining. Ft Wilderness is not a good choice for the dining plan because there is no counter service or regular table service(just the trail's end buffet or Hoop-dee-do). I am a little nervous about the noise level at Pop, I am a light sleeper & the cabins at FtW are perfect for me, you have your own little "home" and don't hear any noise from anyone else. Having a bedroom & a living, kitchen, dining, bedroom combo was great when my kids napped & great when they were teenagers & college students & stayed up late, slept in etc. Our last trip in Nov I was able to get up early, have breakfast, go for a walk without disturbing them. The murphy bed is quite comfortable & that setup is better than the family suites at allstars because the grownups sleeping on the murphy bed have access to the kitchen & bathroom without disturbing those in the bedroom. We have always loved the peace & quiet at FtW & all the activities, boating, biking, campfire & Disney movie program, Electrical water pageant from the beach at night, etc. If you're not on the dining plan its easy to save money on food here because you have a full kitchen & a grill outside. If you don't have a car to go grocery shopping, you can get groceries delivered by gardengrocer.

The most affordable options are 2 rooms at a value, The All Star Family Suites or a FW cabin.

2 rooms vs. Family Suites:

For comparison, the price of a Family Suite is $9-11 more then 2 Standard Rooms, or $13-15 less the 2 Preferred Rooms, depending on season.

Also a fridge is included in AS Suite.

Fridges cost $10 a night to rent when staying at a value . Don't forget the Queen size bed,a coffee pot and microwave are also in Family Suites.

Family Suites vs. Fw cabins:

Both sleep 6.
FW cabin has double beds and a bunk bed, full kitchen, 1 TV and 1 bathroom.
Family Suites has a Queen size bed in a master bedroom area, a fold out sofa, fold out chair and fold out ottoman. The Suite also has a kitchenette. 2 TVs and 2 bathrooms. The Suites also have a privacy curtain(like the mod's have) by each of the sinks.

The FW cabins start at $249 during value season.
The Family Suites start at $179 during value season.

DH and I stayed in a Family Suite at All Star Music ( a value resort) last Sept. (2006)

We really enjoyed the Queen size bed, the kitchenette with the microwave, having a sofa and cushioned chair to sit on and relax after a day at the parks before retiring for the evening.

I thought the pullouts very comfortable.

They are designed so the back cushion and seat cushion of the pullout support the pullout. There is no metal bar to hurt the sleepers back.

.......I am a little nervous about the noise level at Pop, I am a light sleeper & the cabins at FtW are perfect for me, you have your own little "home" and don't hear any noise from anyone else. ......

I stay at the values quite often and have never had an issue with noise.

The noise issues come with :

1. The main pool is located very close to some of the value rooms.

The themed pools at the mods and deluxes are set away from the rooms.

Tip: Ask for a room facing away or located a ways from the main pool.

2. Turbo toilets

The Values are newer and have the turbo toilets.

Tip: Close your bathroom door at night because noise travels through the plumbing.

3. Connecting rooms

About 50% of the value rooms have connecting doors.

Noise will travel under the connecting doors in a room.

Tip: If you have noisy neighbors open your connecting door and place a rolled up bath towel on the floor between then close and lock your connecting door.

Some guests have found out the use of fan or a white noise machine helps them sleep better

These tips should help you get a restful sleep wherever you choose to stay.

Have fun at Disney!:wizard:

Just to add, we just stayed at the cabins and there were two TV's, one in living room with a DVD/VCR and one in the bedroom

Thanks for the update.

I don't see room in the lay out for a TV. Is it mounted above the sink?
The TV in bedroom is not in layout so maybe it was recently added.

Here is the layout of the FW cabin.

Where the sink is showing on the bedroom at the foot of the bunk beds, that's actually where the hairdryer is and a counter with mirror. Next to that would be the closet and next to that is a four drawer dresser with a TV on top.

Thanks for info .
I have not stayed since the early 80's so I was unaware of the updates.
Now I will post the updated info when I post the FW layout.

The family suites are great, but the OP wants to put the kids to bed and then be able to relax. Since the kids typically sleep in the living room of the suite, that might not be the best choice for them.

The problem with going with two value rooms is that so long as there are two adults in the party, you may not get rooms next to each other, let alone connecting rooms. Connecting rooms at a value would be a good choice if it could be guaranteed, but it's simply a request. With two rooms, you get two bathrooms, which can really speed things up in the morning.

Transportation can be an issue for guests at FW that do not have a car. Most people at FW say they drive to Epcot, AK, and MGM, and only use internal transport to MK. However, the cabins themselves are great, with the bedroom that you can close off and enjoy the living room and kitchen while the kids sleep. You also don't have to worry if the kids get noisy, because you won't have anyone sharing walls with you. If you can be patient with the internal bus system, it's possible to enjoy FW without a car.

I think for the OP's situation, the FW cabin would be the best choice.

Here are some photos which include a photo of the wall in question in bedroom. No sink for us either. It does not show a tv on dresser, and we did not have a tv on dresser, but I've heard many folks have gotten one there. http://www.wdisneyw.co.uk/photofwcabin2.html

I guess we're not most people, for we have never had internal transportation issues that lead us to use our vehicle. The boat is the obvious choice for MK, but we also utilize it to get to the monorail for Epcot. Busses were fast and plentiful. In fact, we hopped in the vehicle once last time to go to Boatright's.

I'd personally prefer the quiet atmosphere of FW just to add to the quiet sleeping situation. True, no CS, though the stores there have a pretty good selection of donuts, etc. when in a pinch for breakfast.

But, it's Disney, the beauty of the options is that in the end there really are no truly "bad" choices.:wizard:

Thank you to everyone. As of this moment, we are officially reserved at the Fort Wilderness Log Cabins. I think based on all the info. that I gathered this is the best choice for us. :woohoo:

I didn't mention before but my daughters are horse crazy right now. The fact that they could do several animal related activities at Ft. Wilderness gave it the extra edge. Also, talking to a CM today, we were told that at the time of year we are traveling, we could be at any park fairly quickly suing interal travel. We do have a car if necessary.

I am so excited and my girls think we are going tomorrow. It is hard to explain 3 1/2 months away!
