Fort Swampy-ness!

(Of course I am talking about the E-coli, not TCD.)

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl::rotfl2::lmao:

You're probably ok... unless you spill a pitcher of Pina Coladas on the floor where people have been tracking the stuff in and have to suck it up with a straw...

...but who would ever do that? :thumbsup2

:santa:

TCD, did 1000 look almost complete?? My parents are checking in right now, they were suppose to have preferred but where "upgraded" to premium and they were going to put them in 1000 or 700. We really wanted 300 but told her that I would prefer 700 because we have never stayed in there. We are checking in tomorrow and we will either be in 700 or 300, but I really want sites 301, 302, or 305.. if those arent available we will be in 700.

We are leaving in 5 days for our very first Ft trip. You are scaring me. This certainly does not look like the happiest place on earth

I am sure that after a few sunny days, the water will dissipate some. I would not worry about it.

...and of course I'm serious that TCD is DA MAN! LOL

:santa:

Thanks, buddy! I think you are a swell guy, too.

Happy "Co-Birthday" to your DD's!! Mine was yesterday, too!!

The thing about all the water at the Fort is this. It's always collected like this, but you never noticed it because of all the ground cover.

In 2002 we stayed 4 months in site 1701 (seems to be a favorite site with us disboarders) and that winter we had a LOT of rain. So much so, that on NYE we didn't even attempt to go watch the fireworks because it was raining so hard. Anyhow, I digress.

It rained so much that year that site 1701 was an island & we had lake-front property. No extra charge! LOL

Last weekend, Tig n Taz had knee deep water surrounding their site next to the CS on 1700. The paved walkway from 1700 to same CS had a small lake about 6" deep where the walkway met the loop.

It doesn't look as if the water has gone down.

But that being said, I think the water has always collected in the low spots, but you just couldn't see it because of all the foliage.

Good pictures as usual, TCD!! :thumbsup2

Well, how about that, you have the same BD as my DD's? Happy belated birthday!

You are right about the swamp always being there, but it being more hidden in the past. I also think all of the old plants used to soak up the water faster. And, truth be told, we have had an extraordinary amount of rain over the past couple of weeks.

This too shall pass.

Yes, 1000 looked almost complete. But, if you look at the photos I posted above, you will see that there is a swamp on the trail to the comfort station. I would steer clear of the 1000 loop for a while.

They chose the 700 site... 717 to be exact... my dd is with them and she called and gave us the low down on everything (she is 8) she said they have a new table that has 4 benches on it, but the site is not as good as being next to the playground in the 300 loop!!! She told us that when we check in in the the am that she would prefer the 300 loop!! Anyhow, we really don't use the comfort station much when we are there so I am not too worried about that and we have a cart from Kenny for the week too!!!
Thanks for the info TCD!!!:thumbsup2

I had a phone message today from a FW site assigner. Oh those many months ago when I made this reservation, I requested the 900 loop. Back then it was still full hookup. They called to tell me that the 900 loop was now a Premium loop (I think it's premium). She asked if I wanted to upgrade and that the only full hook up sites are 1600, 1700, 1800 and 1900 loops. Maybe they wanted to move me out of the flooded full hook up sites. Don’t remember anyone on here talking about getting a call from an assigner. I guess this is only a problem now that they are in the process of upgrading the sites.

Actually the Fort looks pretty darn good for all the rain we got. It was the wettest May on record for Central Florida according to one of the local TV stations. There was more rainfall in many areas than TS Fay dumped last year.

And the Fort truly is swampland, see all those Cypress trees everywhere? Guess where they love to grow best? You got it, wet, lowland. That's why back in the 60's when some nut was buying up all the swampland near Kissimmee, no one could figure out why until someone spilled the beans it was Walt.:lmao:

It DID NOT rain here today, about a hour from the Fort and yesterday wasn't bad and the latest weather report for next week is a much lower chance of rain. So the Fort should be draining quickly.

TCD thanks for showing me all the fun new places to ride my cart at FW. Nothing like mud holes and deep water on a cart. :cool1:

i live in north florida and it has been raining like crazy...disney can do alot of things but than can not control or plan the weather.

As always- awesome pics TCD!!! And a very Happy Belated B-Day to the girls!!! :woohoo: 2 more years and they'll be :drive: :scared1:

Though- if you think thatthe Fort was wet you should've seen it over Mem Day Weekend!!!!:scared1: As Deb mentioned, we had over a foot deep lake just off of our site and I now need ankle surgery thanks to Disney's Swamp from trying to walk through the lakes to get our picnic table around front... :headache: I swear, I should at least get a few days at the Fort to recover because of this!!! ;)

I would post the pics that we took, but unfortunately, my mem card had a malfunction and I cant bring up any of the pics :sad2: but I did post a video of the ammount of water (not at its worst though) on the Memorial Day Gathering pics thread....

I hope that the next time we get down there its a little drier... though thanks to my ankle we wont be going any time soon as I hoped :sad1:

The twins just turned 14! My oldest DD turns 18 next month :(. Dang, I'm getting old.

TCD

Hello TCD ........ "Happy belated Birthday" to your twins!!!

Thanks for posting the great (wet) pictures of The Fort! As always we can count on you to keep us updated with current pictures and excellent comments!

We check in next Saturday for our June trip at Fort Wilderness and are hoping we are assigned 1400 Loop. Maybe it will be dry by the time we arrive!

Thanks again ........ Doug /datgrt@fw

I have said it before, and I will say it again. The chicken dinner at Trail's End is the best deal on WDW property. Period. If you haven't tried it, you need to. The three of us ate all we could, and still had a bucket full of chicken and biscuits to bring home. What a deal.

---We will be there for my birthday in 2 weeks and I've already advised the fam I want to get the TE take-out chicken for my meal. We will be a family of seven (4 adults & 3 children) so should we order two of the buckets?

We will be there in 2 weeks also (well, 1 week, 6 day, but who's counting?). Make sure you save some of that chicken for us. Our local national fried chicken chain stinks out loud here from some reason, and I make a mess of fried chicken, so I am looking forward to this!!!!

Hope to see you there. We're just going with one bucket of chicken and I'm cooking Macaroni for the young-ins...will that help to ration it?

As I drove out of the Fort, I accidentally turned right down the little driveway that you see when you enter the Fort. The one that has the Do-Not-Enter sign, and says Cast Members only. This goes back to the area where they now store the golf carts. Something has been going on back here over the past few months. I was hoping that there would be a big sign at the entrance identifying what this area is called. But, there wasn't. This was all that I saw:

That's Area 52...The government has filled up Area 51.

We just returned on Sunday from 8 rain filled days at the fort. We normally stay in Loop 300 by the creek, but this time due to our Annual Pass discount we stayed in a premium loop. Thanks to some great advice and some hard work via Google Earth by a dedicated man who deserves admiration by all for his hard work, we picked a nice site in Loop 500 (530) and we were glad we did. Loop 300 was underwater. The sites were dry, but when you see ducks swimming around the sites, you have a problem with standing water. We had some in 500, but nothing like 300 and some other loops. The dog park was a swamp, but that didn't stop us and many others from turning the dogs loose for some fun times. Like kids they are attracted to mud puddles. A quick hose off and they were almost as good as new. I hope it dries out for our 4th of July trip.
