Best to stay in Fort Lauderdale or Miami prior to a cruise from Miami? We will likely fly into FLL 2 days before the cruise and back home from Miami based on current airfare. Not really city people so leaning towards staying in Fort Lauderdale. Is it easy to get to the port from there on a Monday morning to board the ship? Would there be enough to keep us busy for 1.5 days in Fort Lauderdale? It'll be Jan so not sure it'll be beach weather but it might be! Suggestions for places to stay/things to do?

We elected to fly into Miami the day before the cruise and stay at in-airport hotel. We arrive earlier enough in the day to take the 150 bus from airport to Miami beach for the afternoon and dinner. In the morning, we used Uber to the port, about 15-30 minute ride depending on traffic.

Royal has special rates via Priceline for the MIA in-airport hotel available only by pre-payment in the Royal app.

Thanks for the info.

It was considerably cheaper for us to fly in to Fort Lauderdale so we did that the day before and then had a transport to the cruise port in Miami. An uber XL was only like 45 for my family as well. Just a warning that when disembarking from our cruise the Miami port was an absolute mad house. My adult daughter with autism who has not had a public meltdown in 10 years had one because of the whistles and yelling and screaming by the port workers. It was so nuts that in all honesty I would choose not to cruise out of Miami again or it would have to be a great deal to do so.

Thank you! After reading many nightmare stories about Port Miami, we changed gears and switched to a ship from Port Canaveral.

Port Canaveral was such a nice experience and Miami was just such a complete and utter mess. Good move on your part. Like I said I would only consider Miami if the price was a huge difference.
