If I choose to buy multiple small groups of points when I can afford them in cash, ie: 50 points here and there, at a variety of DVC locations, is there anything other than the 7 month window that I need to worry about when I try to use them for one reservation - I'm only talking no more than 200 points at the end of purchasing total Thanks Nadine

It is definately not a stupid question.

Assuming they are all the same use year AND they are combined under the same membershp number by Member Services, the 7 month window is likely your only obstacle.

If they are under different membership numbers, combining them at 7 months could be problematic as points for any one night of a reservation must be from the same membership number.

If they are different use years, they can not be combined under the same membership number.

No really, even then you can likely get the same home resort if you plan accordingly. You can buy resale for the first contract and then add on directly with DVC. You can't do it buying directly for the initial contract as I suspect you already know.

Paying closing costs on multiple contracts might get expensive?

I would agree, it wouldn't make sense to carry out that plan most or all resale. Only the first should be resale in that situation.

I would suggest buying at the same resort with the same use year until you have the maximum number of points you would want at that resort. I have all my points at BWV since my goal is to have 10 day, multiple room trips for our entire family once every 3 years. I estimate I will need about 600 points per trip. With banking and borrowing, I then wanted to buy 200 points at BWV so I could reserve standard rooms at the 11 month time frame.

I have 13-15 contracts, 4 different resorts, same use year. The only factor is the 11 month window at any resort is only good up to the # of points I have at that resort - which is the same way it would be if I owned 400 points at BWV and 300 points at OKW (as an example).

As for closing costs - LOL - who pays those?? Buying small resales is often more costly than buying from Disney, and you have the headache of waiting through ROFR, closing, etc. I have one small resale, and the savings on the point price more than made up for the closing cost - otherwise I wouldn't have bought it.

:worship: I apprecaite all your help, so , my first purchase will be thru resale, subsequent thru DISNEY, but there will be closing costs with all correct ? I think I've got it, finally !

Once you are a DVC Member (after you purchase your first contract) DVC waives closing costs on add-ons. That could certainly change, depending upon the economy, but that has been their policy for the last few years. Before that, there weren't any closing costs at all, even on a new contract.

I agree...
