Forecast - thunderstorms next 10 days

Is anyone in the WDW area? I read on another threat that a twister was in the area. Any updates?

We were outside at the Star Wars fireworks show tonight and everyone's iPhone went off when a tornado warning came in, but the show went on. There was a very brief rain shower right about 9pm as the show ended, but nothing more serious than that.

We are here now and have not seen or heard anything about a tornado at MK. Weather was great until 9pm'ish.

I was just driving home from volunteering at GKTW and my phone started flipping out about tornado warnings. The worst should be over by the time I have to leave for work tomorrow, so my main worry is that if we lose power, I don't know how to manually open my garage door to get my car out!
Having been through a few ice storms with multi-day power outages at our old (semi-rural) house, we put in garage door openers with battery backup at our first opportunity there, and again the first time the existing ones at our new house gave us trouble, even though it's much less likely to have an extended outage.

I figure they last 10 to 20 years, so the extra $50-$100 for the battery backup models is very little annual cost. We learned to put them on surge suppressors, and haven't had any other problems.

We got the tornado warning- take cover now message on our iPhones at Disney Springs tonight. I thought the weather today was very nice. Good luck to everyone traveling in the next couple days!

We got those warnings too. I was saying I knew nothing about a tornado at MK. Apparently, someone posted there had been one touchdown there or close by. I thought the weather was great today also.

Tornados at MK, the pure panick... This is just silly.

At some point there will indeed be a need to be concerned, but not when a (barely) cat 1 hurricane comes ashore 200 miles north.

Please don't cry wolf... It will diminish the times in the future when true concern is warranted.

At least in wind gusts, 100mph+ winds about to move inland near Tallahassee. image.jpeg

Just landed at MCO! Our flight out of Chicago was delayed from 6:44 pm to 7:42 pm. However, it was due to late arrival of the inbound flight from Denver. The flight has a bit of turbulence for the last third of flight. They made the attendants stay seated. However, it ended up not being too bad considering we flew over a freaking hurricane!!!!

Time to get my Disney party started! Next stop POLY!!!!!

Glad you made it safe .

Made it to Brunswick GA at midnight, as I had hoped. Significant rain began about 20 miles north of Savannah on I-95 but never did seem extraordinary or remotely impassable on the highway. Lots of traffic still out there headed south. I am hoping to get on the road by 11am so as to comfortably make it to MNSSHP tomorrow night. :car:

I think we'll be okay! It will be gone by then and the flight shouldn't be affected by it. Of course Southwest is the only airline that has MCO on their advisory list though for 9/1-9/3 and that is what got me nervous yesterday. No other airline has MCO on their list. I sure hope they update it. I just hope it is gone by Saturday (which it really should be). I am not changing my flight, and I am still checking in at the 24 hour mark tomorrow. Crossing my fingers that we'll be fine and there won't be changes!

JetBlue has MCO on the list as well, 9/1 thru 9/3

We were supposed to be at the Polynesian until 9/3 and then fly out of Jacksonville. JetBlue let us cancel our flight and we rented a car (thank you Alamo for a 2 day minivan with a dvd player for $137 total, for Orlando and dropping off at Newark airport). We left today at 12:30pm from the Polynesian, they credited us for 2 days and we cancelled our Ohana and BOG adr's:( but wound of saving around $900 for the 2 days between the hotel and flights. We have been in Florida since 8/21, so it was OK cutting our stay short. We just got to Rocky Mount, NC and we leave tomorrow morning for the rest of our trip to Northern NJ. We had friends leaving MCO tonight at 9pm. Does anyone know if flights were leaving MCO on time tonight? (Thursday)

In 2008 we managed to get out of Houston right before Hurricane Ike. VERY early morning flight and the sunrise plus circular clouds of Ike were beautiful! A bit of turbulence for us too but as soon as we were out of the area "smooth sailing". That trip ended up being one of the BEST ever...wishing you the same after your bumpy start! :tink:

Safe travels...looks like you'll have rain almost the entire trip! :tink:

Pretty sure all flights have been coming and going on time.

Always tough leaving the Poly; glad that they cooperated on cancellation of extra days. SAFE drive back up to Jersey.:thumbsup2 Gee, could be as far reaching as the Cape/Block Island area on Monday, don't know. Such as shame, as SO MANY have beach Labor Day holiday weekend plans. Beach goers should heed the rip tide warnings and be prepared!:scared1: ALWAYS have a full tank of gas!::yes::

CMs are reporting heavy rain and quite windy right now (6:30a).

There are branches and trees down on roadways leading to MK - take care if you are driving to the parks.

Glad you (and the rest of your flight passengers) arrived safely! Like you said, a "bit" of turbulence doesn't sound too bad considering.....
