Forecast - thunderstorms next 10 days

If you're correct, and right now it sounds like you are as the storm isn't supposed to affect the Philly area until late Saturday at the earliest, you should be in good shape. If you're concerned about a bumpy flight between PHL and MCO, they'll pick a flight path to avoid all or most of it.
I really hope so! We are on the same flight as TikiMan0228. Our flight is supposed to take off at 6:05am on 9/3.

This storm is going to be smack in the middle of southern Georgia Friday morning. Right in the way of the flight corridor from northern states. I can't get an answer if planes will go around it from the airlines. We're thinking of changing flights to tonight when it's still over water. Friday is a travel day but I feel compelled to be at Disney regardless. WHAT KIND OF OBSESSION IS THIS PEOPLE?

Assuming you have flown before, you probably realize that the plane flies above the clouds, right? And flights routinely alter flight paths to avoid bad weather, right? So the same applies to a tropical system. If you are scheduled to be flying over North Florida early Friday morning, then the flight path will likely be shifted east or west to avoid any direct involvement. The major problem is if the system is directly over the airport, which would then make it unlikely for landings or takeoffs. Since it will be nowhere near OIA, that won't be an issue.

I think I"ll be glued to the weather channel all day today and tomorrow. It's looking more likely this will turn into a hurricane before it hits land.

We are flying into Tampa and have to switch planes in Alabama. The flight is on Sat morning/afternoon so as of now it looks like it will be ok. We are flying Southwest though, and sometimes they do weird things.

So are we Tinkerbella16 but on AA. Crossing my fingers it passes before we arrive, but bring ponchos and extra shoes!

So are we, let's cross our fingers it's gone before we arrive! We only have 3 park days and FINALLY got 7DMT FP+s, so we can't really modify much!
I am starting to calm down. Looks like latest path shows it curving off the coast early Sat into Sun. Hope it stays that way. That does leave a clear corridor south with a minor course alteration west if needed. Wow. This is just crazy. #Her-mean!!

This is perfect, this storm has toyed with us and ruined our vacation all week and now it's going to hit the Philly area in the EXACT time frame we are supposed to land there coming home. I love it, couldn't ask for a crappier vacation or bigger waste of a few thousand dollars.

Sorry you haven't had a good vacation. If you're coming back in to PHL over the weekend, it doesn't look like you'll have too many problems. It may be raining, but the heavy winds seem to be projected more for the shore areas. I'm seeing around 15 mph for the Philly area, which shouldn't bother the flights very much.

How can there be an advisory when the chance of rain is 20% on Thursday night as of 9 CST tonight?

Orlando could get lucky and the bands could miss Orlando providing only a few storms. You could also get a band to just 'sit in' and it could storm for hours. What are competing forecasts like? If you have weather commentators out in the storm like the stuntmen of ******* (Johnny Knoxville & co.) you might want to change info providers.

Sorry people have had a bad time. If ponchos, sandals and camp shorts aren't in you bag of tricks don't come into this. I would be riding Kali River Rapids ten times in a row. We try to stay dry above the knees. Zip lock bags to keep things dry, and dry clothing in lockers are par for the course. Night shows, and indoor rides might feel cold, so windbreakers and sweaters might be in order.

Tonight is probably that time you want to be avoiding travel along the northern Florida interstates. Anytime Friday afternoon and beyond looks fine.

When do you think will the valdosta, ga and Gainesville, Florida areas be clear fromwnind and heavy rainfall tomorrow?

Oh the joy of traveling during hurricane season!

Choosing to travel to Florida during hurricane season always carries a risk. That's why Disney heavily discounts this time of year. It's a crap shoot - some years have seen none, others have seen quite a few heavy rainstorms that have impacted full weeks at a time. If you travel mid-August through mid-October, prepare for rain or pick another time to go. Unfortunately that's the bottom line - you can't control nature's typical seasons or patterns, so you can either reject or adapt.

This is correct. We flew into Orlando over Tropical Storm Andrea a few years ago. It was surreal to look down and see the storm below us. There will be more turbulence than usual and a lot of jostling on approach for landing, so if you're even a little prone to motion sickness, make sure to be prepared and think about taking something before your flight.

ETA: Good luck to everyone with upcoming trips!

We are flying on United tonight leaving Chicago O'Hare at 6:44 pm and scheduled to arrive at MCO at 10:26 pm. So far, MCO is not listed on United's list of travel advisory airports. So, I'm hoping that means they will still allow our plane to depart, preferably on time!

I know all about it. I live in South Florida! It is the same reason only a few cruise ships are here at this time of year.

It should be over Valdosta at about noon...all clear for that area at around midnight. Winds will be weaker on the 'backside' of the storm as it passes so it should be somewhat driveable around 5PM. That is if there hasn't been significant damage and flooding of the road surface. There also might be road restrictions, where travel is limited to emergency responders.

The Swamp has a game so that will add to traffic problems Saturday afternoon/evening. It's a bad few days to be on I-75. Gainesville will be mostly unscathed, so if you are traveling Gainesville and south you should be good. We will have the usual power surges, minor outages and downed trees.
