getoutthere said:I have taken a travel iron/steamer on all 6 of my cruises without any problem. Not one of the room stewards has ever told me I couldn't use it either. I know they have seen it since I always leave it out to cool when I am done. I realize it may be a fire hazard but as previously mentioned, so are curling irons and things of that nature. Besides, I am smart enough to unplug it and leave it in a safe place when I am done. I think if you want to take your travel iron you should.
I really hope others don't agree with this. I'd love to see the stats on how many housefires have been started with an iron vs a curling iron. Most curling irons sit on a countertop - even when someone forgets to unplug them. Most irons are sitting on an ironing board or on clothes. There aren't any ironboards in the staterooms, so presumably you are doing it on the floor (on flammable carpet) or on the bed (on a flammable comforter/blanket.) I realize that some people may think it is an insult to their responsible natures to suggest that they should defer to the request to not have an iron in their rooms, but I can assure you that even in the Navy, irons are deemed a firehazard. In fact, each and every electrical device has to be tested by the ship's electrician and tagged as to its allowability on ship so we're probably fortunate that we don't have to go through that for all of the electrical devices people bring aboard!

My kids have thier costumes all set for the cruise and I don't want to bring them if they are forbidden.
