EDIT - Sorry, I just saw the forum News & Rumors has this announcement also, did not know there was such a forum 'till now!

Posted by Phoenix on another site who saw it themselves on another site LOL :

>>>At the March 19th, 2003 Walt Disney Company Annual Meeting in Denver, during the Question and Answer section, somebody asked what is Disney planning to do to improve Disney's Animal Kingdom.

Michael Eisner responded with the fact that a ride dealing with Climbing Mt. Everest and "is the biggest, and the best, and the most amazing ride thru the Himalayas..." is "on the boards and has been approved"... "A Testosterone driven ride for the boy in the family..." Then Michael turns to Bob Iger to ask when the ride should be completed, and Bob says "You just made a couple of hundred people on the internet happier than they ever been in their life." Basically confirming Michael let the cat out of the bag before the official announcement.<<<

I don't think this has been posted yet, sorry if it was.

"A Testosterone driven ride for the boy in the family..."

What the heck is that supposed to mean? I just had a run in with a co-worker who was walking around finding interested people to join in on the NCAA pool...he asked my boss (who happens to be a man)to join in - but then looked at a female co-worker and myself and says "You women wouldn't be interested in this." I was HOT! I'm not even easily annoyed or critical, but this stuff really burns me up.

I believe that Michael Eisner had no clue what the heck was coming out of his mouth when he answered, LOL! You can tell he is searching for words at some points, probally because he wasn't expecting to be asked this question!

Oh well, he would always be prepared!

Yeah that comment on 'for the boy in the family' caught me way off guard too. When I was a little lad of 12 years old my two older, female, cousins took my family to Canada's wonderland. I loved all the rollercoasters and they took me on all of them, loving them just as much as I do. My dad, on the other hand chickened out after the first one. In this case it was the girls of the family that took me on these coasters, not the head-man.

At any rate, I'm sure it was hastilly thought up and is probably already regretted. We all know that the love of roller coasters is not a gender split, it's an attitude split.

Spoisal,

Too bad you don't work with me! I've spent much of the morning trying to get some of the women in my office to participate in our floor's tournament pool without much success!

I agree with Spoisal!!!!

Am I suppose to tell my 9 year old DD that she can't go on the new thrill ride because she is a "GIRL" and girls don't ride them. Her favorite ride since she was tall enough is RRC.

** And I do participate in sport pools! **

Well, at our office all the women get into the NCAA pool (and actually one of them runs it; an avid Illinois fan). The males have lost 5 years running (we are hoping, as before, to end the string this year). ME obviously made a stupid comment but let's not judge him on that one comment. Instead, let's judge based on his performance as head of Disney in the last few years (get the pink slip out).

Stupid comment or no, this is great news, and great news for Animal Kingdom.

Oh, come on. Don't be so sensitive. Disney can have the "Princess" stuff for girls, but you can't say you have a ride that's great for boys? Sure, girls can be just as adventurous, but everybody knows deep down that boys and girls are different breeds. Good for him for being politically incorrect enough to dare suggest that a project is directed towards boys. In this day and age its so improper to direct ANYTHING towards boys. I don't think I've ever seen boys featured in the ads for Cinderella's breakfast...it doesn't bother me...my three boys would probably rather be riding on that mountain!

I agree what's the big deal.

Disney is full of "girl stuff" it's time to bring on something geared toward the boys.

Now if they start a character meal for boys DS son and I'd be soooo happy.:bounce: :Pinkbounc

A boys' character meal would be terrific! We would certainly pay to eat with Buzz, Hercules, Sully, Peter Pan, some of those types of characters. Actually, I DID read that Disney might be introducing an "adventure" line that could be simlilar to the Princess stuff. Good thing... half the Disney store right now is princesses!

Some very good ideas being generated by this thread.

But ive got a feeling this it could all start becoming TOO RIDICULOUS if Disney were to start introducing Character meals for boys....................Character meals for girls........................ i can just imagine it!!

I have absolutely no problem with what Michael Eisner said. If the ride is geared toward boys, that is OK... it doesn't mean that girls can't or won't ride it. If you stop and think about it, there are other rides in WDW that are geared more toward one sex than the other, just like the character meals. No big deal. I just don't understand what everyone is getting uptight about!

That being said... I think the ride will be wonderful! I can't wait for them to add something else to Animal Kingdomm... and that theming would be perfect!

Now, if the economy would come back up (a quick end to the war will help immensely) so they can complete Project Gemini in Epcot and this wonderful addition to the Animal Kingdom, all will be right with the "World".

Who cares what Eisner called it - I'm excited about something new and exciting for the AK. I'll ride a "boys" ride. This is exciting.

They are halfway there. Cinderella's Royal Table and Princess Storybook breakfast at Akershus. Do you honestly believe those are not intended for girls??

And we can't forget the new Princess dinner at 1900 Park Fare.

I think the princess breakfast just evolved into girl's things. Years ago Cinderella would visit the tables at lunch and dinner. They added breakfast and more princesses and it became so hugely successful that the other princess meals were added.

I agree with drushba....don't judge by one goofy comment.

And Go Illini!

I think this is great. It will be nice to have another good ride at AK. Dinosaur is fine, but Primeval Whirl is kind of a snooze. We like exciting rides--including my 2 girls and 1 boy!

The Aladdin breakfast at MGM use to be great for boys. It had Jafar and Genie for boys as well as Jasmine and Aladdin for the girls.
