My wife and kids love the HP ride Forbidden Journey which I will not ride because I am scared of getting motion sickness. I have been on rides such as Spiderman and Transformers and they don't bother me. I rode Mission Space a few years ago and it nearly got the best of me. I really want to ride Forbidden Journey with my family but will it leave me with the same terrible feeling like I had with Mission Space? Btw: I can ride every rollercoaster and have no ill feelings. It just seems to be rides that spin alot or intense simulator rides like Mission Space. I have never rode the Simpsons ride either and would love to give it a try. Is it as bad as these rides? Thanks!!

Take this all with a grain of salt, because motion-sickness is not something I have had to deal with thankfully.

I BELIEVE the "motion" sickness on Simpsons is more to do with visuals. The screen does blur a bit as it moves around quickly.

On Forbidden Journey, there are several possible "motion" sickness stimulants. There are screens (although if Spidey and Transformers don't bother you at all, it seems like the screens shouldn't be an issue to you) and there is motion. If you watch a youtube video on the Kuka arm system (or search for Forbidden Journey POV with lights on...there's a couple) you can see how it does turn quickly, tilt, dip, etc.

i always move my eyes off the screen on FJ and Simpsons and look at my feet when i can feel the motion sickness creeping in on me.
this is what works for me.
i think it is the quick movement of the pictures on the screen that get to me that can set off my
motion sickness

The worst motion sickness I ever had was the old Body wars ride at epcot- that thing was brutal. Simpsons ride is mild really- if you can do Spiderman, you should be fine.

The HP Forbidden Journey on the other hand is not as easy IMO. I do get mild motion sickness on that one and I think it has a lot to do with tilting the seats back and forth. I'm usually back to normal in a few minutes after riding it but it does take that few minutes. It is a very good ride so maybe its worth the risk?

Not always pa. dad

I can't do Simpsons at all......was so ill coming off that ride it ruined the rest of the afternoon. Never felt so bad coming off any ride! Would never describe it as mild........as someone who does suffer from motion sickness this was the worst ride ever for me. Will never ride it again.

Spiderman on the other hand is easy. Doesn't set me off at all.........I can ride all coasters and simulators......until Simpsons.

Think everyone reacts differently to different rides, but Simpsons seems to be one of the worst for folks in general.

I don't want to discourage you, but I never get motion sickness on rides, and Forbidden Journey nearly ruined my day. The Simpsons was bad for me too.
That being said, I have zero problems on Mission Space. I rode Spiderman and got through it ok, but later in the afternoon we did Men in Black followed immediately by The Simpsons --GAG. That was a rough combo.

...and despite that, I would still go back on FJ again! But you can bet I'd be popping anti-nausea meds and tylenol like candy before and afterward. It's an amazing ride!!

I guess we are all different. I don;t have a severe problem with motion sickness but some rides do affect me. Mission Space tends to get me a little and the HP Forbidden Journey tends to get me moderately. The Simpsons ride has never affected me and the ride that preceded that one in the building, Back to the Future, was one of my favorites that I could do over and over. And I think Back to the Future was a rougher ride than the Simpsons.
The one that I could not handle well at all was the Body wars. one year I rode it and I was nauseous for an hour afterwards. So when I come back the next time, i figure maybe I just had something bad to eat or something that day and I ride it again. Bad decision. You think I'd have learned the first time.

Which side of Mission Space did you ride?

I can easily handle the mild side of Mission Space but have to wear my sea bands on Forbidden Journey. Before FJ is mixed - real and screen - I can handle it. If it were all screen, I wouldn't be able to. I don't have to wear my sea bands on Simpsons, but I do look away at certain times. There is no way I would be able to handle Mission Space Orange.

I've done both sides of Mission space . I think orange is the tamer version? Lately its been more the orange tamer version as my wife prefers that one.
The other ones that can give me trouble are the big drop ones like the Tower of terror. I've never done the Dr Doom one because of the Tower of terror one.

I plan on taking Bonine. I haven't been to US since 1999 so I want to ride everything without feeling ill.

I take bonine if I`m not taking vertigo meds.........works great for everything including FJ, except Simpsons.

I keep ginger candy handy if I ever do get that nauseous feeling........doesn`t work for everyone of course, but helps me.

I have done Mission Space three times and won't be doing this ride ever again. Not because of motion sickness - the last time I tried it, we went in, doors closed and we were sitting there for at least 20 minutes - never again. Can't compare this with Forbidden Journey. I have ridden Forbidden Journey once and I would do it again but it did bother me just a tiny bit. If you have done Soarin - I, personally compared it this way - Forbidden Journey is Soaring on some great steroids. (fast and lot's of jerkin around).

I have vertigo and get motiion sickness . the ONLY ride that kills me is The Simpsons. It doesnt matter if I medicate before or focus on my feet during , I come off that ride and I am DONE for the day and sick as a dog

Seabands worked really well for us with the possible exception of the Simpsons. Though for me, part of the problem with Simpsons is claustraphobia which I don't think would be as bad if they didn't have so many warnings about it. Being continually warned about it makes me worry about it which makes it worse.

Since 1999?

A whole lot of things have changed since you last were at the parks!

You will find what we are talking about makes sense once you do the rides.

You will be awed at the darkside!

And if you also do BG and SW, you will be impressed on how much they have grown in the past 17 years

What do y'all think is the best medicine to take for motion sickness? I was thinking of going to the Dr. before we leave to ask for a medicine that helps or prevents motion sickness on rides. Is Dramimine or Bonine sold in stores as good as anything a Dr. can give? Without any meds for motion sickness I don't think I will ride some of these rides and I hate to miss out.

When I went in 1999, I went with my sister and took two of my cousins (9+10-almost 11). The 9 year old turned 9 while we were on vacation. My sister really wanted to do SeaWorld so we got the FlexPass with US and SeaWorld. I haven't seen IOA or Aquatica. Not doing BG as I'm afraid that there are too many smoking areas in main pathways.

My niece better be up for going on all the rides.

Green is the tamer side. I remembered it as green doesn't make me green. Seeing how you managed both sides, you're in better shape than I am so I'd expect you would manage on FJ and Simpsons just as well as I did if not better.

People have mentioned a scopolamine patch the doc can give you for motion sickness. Some have found it better than medicines like Bonine and Dramamine.

I find Bonine fine for me.......for most rides. So far nothing has helped with Simpsons.
